You Are Pretty Amazing

Hi bloggers!  Today's card is a really simple layout, but I just love the negative space from swirl dies myself.  I picked out some Graphic 45 papers for this one.  They may not appeal to everyone, but I just loved the colours in them.  The patterned stripe paper was light enough to be used on top and show off my sentiment.  I really liked the darker background paper, which has small butterflies on it (so appropriate I thought) and thought it would look smashing peeking out through the swirl cut outs.  I used my favourite swirl die for this one too.  It is part of the Heartfelt Creations Dutch Iris die set.  I taped it into place in the lower corner and ran it through the machine to cut my first swirl.  Adding a small piece of waxed paper between the die and your card really helps aid in the removal too.  I used the die a second time to create the look of one long die cut by slightly overlapping the cutting edge on the die with the area that was previously cut.  I stamped my sentiment using a black archival ink pad and then added 3D foam mounting pieces to raise the entire piece over the background below.  Using the same paper that is showing through the swirls, I cut two of the butterfly die that is part of the Heartfelt Creations Butterfly border set.  One was simply cut and embossed, but one was cut with a sticky adhesive sheet attached.  I micro beaded that butterfly and adhered it to the top of the other butterfly by gluing only the body.  The butterfly wings were left free and were formed to show off both of them.  I added three black rhinestones to the body as an accent.  The entire piece was matted with a thin mat of soft gold to give it a frame, then I finished with a black pierced edge layer.  Can you see the tiny butterflies in the background?  All for now, Sue x

  1. Morning Sue, this is very suitable for a male card as it is simple but elegant. Yes I can see the tiny butterflies but that big butterfly die is gorgeous. I too think the negative is very effective.

  6. Hi Sue and good morning to you. I like the idea of using the negative of the swirl die as you have and really like the top paper but I'm not that keen on the one underneath. I don't really care for dirty papers as I call them, much prefer clean and crisp. Linda xxx

  24. Morning Sue, I loved this when I saw it on C&C, how ingenious to elongate the flourish, and so effective with the butterfly paper underneath, Graphic 45 paper is my most favourite. The butterfly die-cut looks fantastic with the top butterfly 'micro beaded'. This looks such an easy card, but the elongation of the die will probably be 'trial and error' ha ha, well in my case anyway ha ha.

Why can't Spellbinders just give us a set with two or three stunning swirls?

  54. Great card as always Sue, and I love the look using the patterned papers. I have a hoard of patterned papers and tend to just use them as backgrounds or for matting and layering but not anymore!!! Yet again you've inspired me to think differently.

  77. Hello Sue, Good Morning! This is an excellent card for men. The simplicity of the card and the practical use of the negative is the perfect combination. I love the Graphic 45 papers that you used on your cards. Ever since I bought my Heartfelt creation dies, I was stuck and didn't know what to do with them. Now I have seen you used the dies, I can begin to see the things that I could make using the dies. I miss the bows and the bling, but if I were to give this to my boys or my male friends...this would be perfect! Thank you Sue for giving us another masculine card idea!

What a beautiful card you've made for today, I love butterfly's and this is a definate favourite for me although all your cards are outstandingly wonderful. I love the dark background with the lovely striped blue paper cut out in front it really looks great. I love the microbead look of the butterfly. I bought some microbeads when you did the shortened four day deal on create and craft. I got my justrite stamps from America yesterday I love them and will have great fun playing with my labels twenty dies and them (I also got a list of other spellbinder compatible dies they do as well so will be contemplating what to get next!) I hope you are enjoying being back home and your weather is not grey and drizzly like ours in the uk! Thank you for your inspirational cards especially today's. Katielou x
