What You Do

Morning all!  I had been holding off on posting this card because I was getting a bit of comments requesting brighter cards, but everyone that saw it Ally Pally seemed to really like it.  It is one of my favourites too.  I picked out a decorative paper for the background (which I think was Graphic 45, but I'm not positive).  I added a matching paper strip with one of my Vintage Lace borders added in black.  I did a bit of machine zigzag stitching around the edge as an accent.  Next, I cut a length silky crush ribbon in champagne colour down the centre to make it thinner.  I added a bit across the bottom of my card, then used the rest to tie a messy bow (by messy, I mean I just let the loops go where they may, it isn't symmetrical).  I added a bit of gold tulle behind it and a fancy black button from my craft stash.  I cut the largest Decorative Labels One in black for the back layer of my focal element. a Decorative Labels 27 in black on top of that sentiment and cut it out with one of the smaller Decorative Labels 27 and very lightly inked it with black soot for a soft smokey look.  For the flowers, I used the new Krinkly Kraft paper (it is officially called twist wrap kraft paper if you are looking for it to purchase) cut small circles out of it by hand so they were a bit irregular.  I used my fingernail to stretch the paper a bit to form them into a cup shape a bit and then inked them with Black soot.  I layered up two to three different sizes and put a black brad through the centres to hold them together.  I just love the way this paper looks for flower making.  These remind me of a sort kraft looking poppy! Not to mention, these flowers only use very small pieces of it so they are a great way to use up your scrap pieces (which is just what I did!)  I cut a few leafy bits from Foliage Two set as accents.  I added a black rhinestone swirl in the upper corner and Cosmic Shimmer black PVA dots around the edges to finish it off.

  1. Hi Sue...this card is just gorgeous...the colors are fab...the flowers are lush too.

The C&C POTD just is not the same without you...plus the dies are very small...I prefer the bigger style.

    Take Care. Deborah.H. :)

A lovely card and thank you for the tip about making the flowers, I shall experiment. Very disappointing show I thought last night, the presenters seemed to act like giggly schoolgirls and didn't really show us the dies properly so roll on Sunday and a proper show!

    what a fantastic, fabulous creation.
The Spellbinders show last night wasn't a patch on your shows. Come back Sue that's what I say to C and C.

  31. Morning Sue, This card is STUNNING, I loved it at Ally Pally, but then I love all your creations, these are definitely my colours, I absolutely adore this card. Loving the tulle behind the messy bow too.
Regarding C&C and POTD, when I think of the gorgeous creations that you would have come up with with those dies, there is no comparison, what are C&C thinking at all.
Regarding Deborah's idea of a Spellbinders Channel, bring it on if you are the demonstrator, Sue.
Looking forward to 30th to watch you.

Today's card shows why your the queen of Spellbinders you come up with such brilliant ideas. The POD. was not the same without you and I am afraid that the samples did not inspire me, I agree with Jackie D about the presenters. I think I need a doctor because I DIDN'T buy anything LOL. Looking forward to your shows on Sunday so that I can be inspired by the best. I did try to see what products you had on but there are no products listed on the website, I'll just have to be patient. Did anyone notice that the 'Spellbinder' intro music has been changed?

Although I'm not usually a lover of "dark" colours I think this card is stunning. Looks incredibly expensive and lush. The flowers are gorgeous. The shows last night were not the same without you and although I liked some of the dies I was a little disappointed with the size of them and agree with other comments that they are quite similar to other dies on the market. Looking forward to Sunday and the big embossing folders.

Write in to C&C and Ideal World in NOT Ideal when you are not there.Family, friendship and fun? I don't think so....not without you. Anyhoo, I emailed both of them last night to say as much. Why not all of us do the same? Boycott and buy from somewhere else.....there are cheaper firms out there even though it seems we have to wait until they've had the biggest bite of the cherry. Can you see the steam coming off this email? Looking forward to recording your show Sue Mabex

  100. Another super creation from the Wilson stable

Very disappointed with last night POD spellbinders show on C & C

Thought Dean gave it a very hard sell and the demonstrator was not a patch on you and your cards, they tried to say they had not had time to make cards, however if you had only been given an hour you would have made some fabulous creations.

They just went over and over how to use the grand calibar to cut and emboss - the card demo's were nothing but boring and uncreative

Hurry back onto our screens and if C & C are logging into your blog - Sue is the spellbinding Queen

Sue's card make us crafters think outside the box

Us crafters know how to use the machine we also know how to make simple cards, what we want is inspiration to improve our skill and only Sue and her great little team can provide that

  101. Hi Sue. Today's card is lovely. I love your vintage style look. Great layout and colours. I have watched the potd on cc and I have to admit it is not particularly inspiring. I have not bought anything. I do like Phill but what on earth is he doing on a spellbinders show? With out you and Julia, create and craft have nothing. They have made a very big mistake. The shows are very disappointing. I don't claim know all there is to know about spellbinders but I think even I and probably the majority of people that follow your blog could make better more inspiring cards than those that are on there at present. I am patiently waiting to see you on cc on sunday!! Love Tres x x x

which i am going to do so anyone reading this please do the same.I think the sales from last night were very low.I hope that you will be on on sunday.

Secondly I'm in California right now and got all set up on my iPad to watch the C&C POTD. well like everyone else I was so underwhelmed by Phil (nice sweet guy) he did nothing to enhance those dies I bought a cpl of them from the site before the launch show but C&C what ever possessed you to do this without the spelly queen they must have had some kind of moment, and I agree dean did come across as annoying and I usually like him as a presenter. Roll on Sunday when you are back. I also have email the IdealWord to complain. Yvonne x

  113. Hi Sue, as far as I am concerned, every card you do is lovely. I like to see cards done in "out of the ordinary" colours and as a previous comment says, you can always do any of your designs in whatever colour suits you. We all have different tastes and it would be practically impossible to please everyone all of the time. And anyway, seeing different colourways certainly "fires up" my imagination. Keep it up.

  114. Hi Sue,
Fantastic card love love mono tones.
Like almost everybody else I only watched the POTD show for a little while it was not the same as when you and Julia do the shows. Don't know what C&C were thinking.
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.

  115. I've already put a comment on today but now there are 120 and most of you seem to agree SUE is number 1 Spellbinder Talent. No offence to Phill he seems a nice guy. Last night I emailed C&C Ideal World and Spellbinders please can you all do the same? Sue is a treasure and we need to see her more not less. Power to the Sue Wilson Fans. JUST DO IT!!! Please Mabex

  116. Those flowers are so gorgeous - I really must get some of this paper - always always something I want! If any of you other bloggers read this comment I would ask you to send an email to studio@idealworld.tv to complain about Sue not doing the demoes for the POD World Launch. Please do this because it really is not right and I know that all of you want her to be doing the demoes so please lets support her by all emailing in about it.

  125. Just had a look at my recorded shows, well the first two anyway, and will be deleting the rest without looking at them.
The demo cards were like something we might have made if we had never seen the 'Sue' shows, but now that we have I think all your bloggers could have made better samples.

  131. Lovely card Sue. I do like to see some of your more obscure coloured cards as it gives me inspiration to be a bit more daring as they are not colours I would normally use myself.

  132. love the vintage feel of this card again. I love unusual colours anyway and really like these.
    Keep up the good work

  133. Lovely classy, elegant card Sue x The flowers do look poppy like, liking them with that tint of inky soot. You get an "Oooooo!" or a "Wow!" from me whatever colours you decide to use. As far as I'm concerned they are "Sue Wilson" cards..... & that makes them unique in my eyes! Just like you are the unique Sue Wilson Spellbinder! Look forward to seeing you on Sunday Sue with all your wonderful demo's, xx Love Karen xx

Hi Sue....Another stunning card...I love the colours and the flowers are gorgeous..will have to get some of this paper.....I too was surprised that you were not doing the POD...I did watch some of the launch but as others have said not the same without you...(I do like Phill) I think C & C and spellbinders mad a mistake not having you for the launch of the new dies...also there were no measurements of the dies. There were some lovely one's but did save my money....cant wait for Sunday even tho I am working..hope there will be some left when i see the recording....

  137. Beautiful card Sue as always. I really love your creative style.
I have bought the spellbinder dies from C&C as I thought they had great potential. I think If you had done the show we would have seen more spectacular cards.
I'm not knocking Phill as he did have a different take on making cards and to be honest dont think it's nice of people to knock him. We all have our different styles.
Look forward to seeing you on C&C on Sunday. very exciting cant wait.

  141. Beautiful card Sue! The flowers are so pretty.
Watched the POD and was so dissapointed, the samples were basic and didnt give us any inspiration. It just didnt feel like a spellbinder show. Far too much giggling and carry on and Dean is one of my favourites too. Have emailed Ideal World.

  142. I love this card too Sue! So elegant & classy! Gorgeous colour scheme. I do like bright colours, but I like these too & you give us such a mix. I did actually buy POTD from ideal world last night & added a grand calibur for my friend so she could pay over 4x months (I have one of the create & craft versions), but was working so ordered blind via my phone. I only watched the recorded show today (my 2yr old wasn't impressed!). I did miss your beautiful creations you always create & your demos. I'm sure your cards would of been amazing! Given Phils lack of time to prepare I think he did well & do usually like his demos. He's just not you though as you truly are the queen of spellbinders for me. I always record any show you do so I can stop & pause as much as I like. Thank you for being you :-) Claire xxx

  146. Hi Sue, love the card, especially the roses. Skimmed through the POTD shows on C&C today, they were very uninspiring without you. I'm sure it would have sold out if you'd been there with your beautiful samples and great demos. Looking forward to your shows on Sunday.
