Design Team Call

Hi bloggers!  I have got an announcement to make first off.  Creative Expressions has just put out the call for 2012 design team members.  Here is a link to the website page that has all the details if you are interested. http://blog.creative-expressions.uk.com/2012/08/2012-creative-expressions-design-team.html

As for today's card, another non traditionally styled Christmas card.  I started with some music script background paper (that I found in Florida) and I cut the holly accent border out of the left side of it.  I used the negative pieces to create my background by mounting both pieces of it on mounting foam and attaching it over a piece of black glitter card.  You may think you are looking at the border cut out of black glitter card, but it is actually a sort of faux canal type card, with the glitter card being in the background.  I cut the holiday ornament from 2010 in the largest size, then skipped a size and used the next one for the centre cut, creating a frame. I embossed the ornament with a mask (circles, I think)while it was still in the die and inked it slightly with antique linen distress ink.   I stamped my sentiment and embossed in gold on black card.  I mounted it below my ornament.  I added a black silky crush double bow to the top of the ornament with a gold button centre.  I added some black rhinestone swirls to the side and bottom tip  of my ornament.  I only pierced the two sides this time (you don't always have to do all four sides, you know!)  Don't forget about the design team call now.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Morning Sue, I like the concept of this card and in these colours it would make an ideal "male" card, but so easily adapted to different colours too for a more tradiitional Christmas card.

I love the composition of this card, would use greens (perhaps, even though the black is striking)

  6. Hi Sue, it must be colours that draw me to a card more than the design. I love this one as I do most f your cards.

  15. Morning Sue, This card is so beautiful, I love the way how you use the negative, I would never have thought to use the waste, and it is so effective, especially with black glitter card underneath. I love it. Hope you are recovering from your jetlag. Lots of love from Patricia xx

  20. GM Sue, I absolutely love the manuscript paper - it sets off the whole thing for me. Althought I am not a fan of dark, black x-mas cards I really like this one - I think its cos there's more cream than black. I have these dies so will give it a go. As for design team - one day maybe! but not just yet - I am still very much a learner having only started card making in January 2012 - I have learnt alot and so far have not bought a single card this year. I had the foresight to photograph my efforts from day one to keep as a record- its amazing to see how your style and techniques used develops in such a short space of time.

  24. Good morning Sue
I love today's card especially the backing paper it's fabulous. I had an e mail from Creative Expressions about design team, I have a good way to go before I would think I was suitable, but it states that you must have your own up and running blog. Who knows some day, maybe I should make it my goal (then I can justify needing more dies) lol
