Hi there crafty friends! Remember the all white micro beaded Christmas tree card last week? Well this was how it started. When I first received the new Christmas dies, I cut the holiday tree out of white card first thing. I just wanted to see what it looked like straight away. I fell in love with the negative piece right away and made this card with it. The white card from last week was where the actual tree diecut ended up! I didn't have any Christmas papers at that point so I decided to do the next best thing and that was to make a chocolate tree (well chocolate is Christmassy, right?) I found this yummy brown paper in my stash that has a tiny pattern on it. It was just what I wanted (sorry, I haven't a clue where the paper is from, though). I mounted my negative piece with foam pieces on the back for dimension. I used some swirlie pearls that started on the upper corner, went down on to the brown background paper and finished in the lower corner. I matted the piece with brown card and placed it on a larger piece of the same decorative paper with another brown mat. I finished it off with a pierced edge and a double bow tied from the brown silky crush ribbon and a Dazzler centre. I couldn't even put a sentiment on it as I loved the simplicity of it. If you can't bare the thought of it not being a "Christmas" card in the traditional sense, find yourself some tartan paper and you are all set! All for now, Sue x
Hi Sue what a great way to use the negatives, no wastage. Love this card and this die will be on order today.
ReplyDeleteWilma
Morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous and really clever.
I've said it before but I'll say it again, I love playing with negative spaces. I love the chocolate colour as well.
It is often harder to make a relatively simple card and make it look really artistic than a busy one I think.
2 thumbs up from me Sue.
Hugs
Waterford
Morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteI love your chocolate tree. It may not be in traditional Christmas colours but think it's the difference which helps it stand out from the crowd. As you say, Christmas is the time for chocolate and no calories either!

Good morning
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this card, great colour combo, yet another star in the creativity crown well done Sue
Like this one! I frequently use the negative space from die cutting. As an almost CAS card this is great! It's harder to do CAS than anything else...nowhere to hide anything! Also like the non-traditional color.
ReplyDeleteR/
Really like the use of the negative image, this tree is on the list!
ReplyDeleteAnother great card sue, l missed out on this die when it was on c+c but I've got to have it.
ReplyDeleteFab card Sue, and good use of the negative image, just shows you how a bit of planning can make your stash go further. Bx
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, yummy indeed!
Loving the colour and the paper, swirls etc!
I received my GC & dies on Monday, have cut a few trees (not all to a satisfactory degree, have had to run them through a number of times)
Haven't yet cut them out as a main feature...roll on 2pm (finish work at this time)
Thanks for sharing the lovely card with us!
Have a great day!

Hi Sue the pearl swirls are particularly effective on this, and the dazzlers are on my shopping list.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Edwina
Isn't it great that you can use the negative as well as the positive! Thrifty crafting in action :) Love this die Sue and you use it so well. Hugs, Buttons x
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteFancy buying a die just for the negative, that is what I did when I saw you show this on C&C, lol. I really liked this card, love the colour choice.
Have a great day everyone.

I will definitely be trying this one. Lots of love from Patricia xx
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue
ReplyDeleteWho would think that this was made from waste card it s such a great idea. I love the chocolate paper another colour I would not have used for a Christmas card but it looks fabulous. You make us think out of the box and try so many different techniques, my crafting has moved up to a whole new level thank you for that.
Hugs x
Christmas and chocolate sounds good even at this time in the morning. This card is so lovely. like the bling which turns it into a very designer tree
ReplyDeleteHi Sue - simple and elegant. And such a great use of the negative piece. Have started thinking much more about how I place my dies on card when I'm cutting them out. Used to cram as many on as possible but not anymore - I'm trying to look at things 'the Sue way'! TY. Kathy x
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a chocolate tree....who wouldn't.
This card is so simple but really effective, love it.
Julie x
GM Sue, I think I prefer the positive image to the negative - but the negative is still good! I tried using the negative part a couple of weeks ago but I didn't like the result of my efforts - think it was cos I only used 1 mat and layer - it just didn't look right, wasn't balanced I think - but yours does look balanced to my eye anyway! Will have another go at it the Sue Wilson way.

Morning Sue I think this is a lovely card and a great way to use the 'waste'. I think the brown paper goes well with it but would also look nice with some christmas paper. I will have to give this a try as I have lots of lovely Christmas papers. Love Jean x
ReplyDeletemorning Sue from a somewhat cooler Burgundy this morning - again you have reminded me of how beautiful the negs can be - I love the colouring and will certainly be trying this one with other background papers.
ReplyDeleteJanet x
Really clever use of the "waste". You do have such a brilliant eye for using everything, a lovely card. xx.
ReplyDeleteLike ClareW said, the secret must be in the layers! It's a lovely "negative" card.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at "chocolate"!!!! I like your use of the negative spaces almost as much as using it as the positive. This non-traditional color really appeals to me. Thanks for another great idea.
ReplyDeletegood morning Sue. you are clever. love the idea of using the negative. the colour is lovely, makes me feel like reaching for the milk tray. it's never too early to eat chocolate. didn't comment yesterday as spent morning in casualty with fractured wrist. how am i going to craft?
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely card. Just ordered this die (& the poinsettia) so can't wait to try this out. I love the fact that you've used the negative piece. It is such a lovely die - better than the plain "holiday tree" in my opinion. Keep the ideas coming - please!
Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteLove today's card, have used the negative of other dies but not with the tree 'yet'.
Have a great day everyone and happy crafting

ReplyDeleteReally beautiful creation here today Sue, thoug very different, but I absolutely love it. A great way to use the negative parts of the die cuts too, so nothing is wasted at all, and I really love that part ha ha ha.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and good use of the negative - but I must say I prefer that stunning white one with the pearls!! Pat x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card Sue.... great to use the negative bits. I think I need to plan my cards rather than go with the flow as I never seem to think that far ahead. Definitely will try this look... I like the no sentiment part too. Card says it all!

This looks yummy. xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat card and for a change I actually like the negative. All to often when people say you can use the negative as well, I don't tend to agree, as I feel something is lost but this works really well as there is some detail left.

Uhmm! yummy chocolate. Beautiful card. I love the use of the negative. With love & light Theresa. H
ReplyDeleteI'm struggling with this die at the moment, haven't managed to get a complete tree or negative yet! I obviously need some baking parchment.
ReplyDeleteThink the swirly pearls 'make' the card, but they do add two pounds to the cost, quite a bit, so probably wouldn't be profitable to sell, but lovely for personal, special, use.
Thank you, Sue
Christine

ReplyDeleteHi Sue,
ReplyDeleteHow yummy is this!!
I think I am in love with a chocolate card, if only I could eat it too........ ah, but that would mean no card left to admire. Ummm, maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea, I can be a rather ravenous chocolate eater I can tell you. LOL!
I think the paper you used for this card Sue is really beautiful and it makes it so different. Many would think of tartan, snowflakes or baubles so that makes yours that little bit more unique and very classy for sure.
Big hugs Linda x
