Beautiful Day

Happy Weekend!  I know there will probably be a varied opinion on this one as to whether or not it needs a bow, but I just love the simplicity of the way it came out.  I sat on my hands and decided no bow!  I hope I wasn't wrong, but I will have to see what your consensus decides!  I started with my Lattice motif die and cut it from plain copy paper (I hadn't had a chance to play with it in such a long time!).  I used the negative shape and taped it to a piece of coconut white card.  Inside the shape, I added a small punched circle out of copy paper that I put a bit of removable adhesive on.  I placed that in the upper right hand corner to act as a "moon" after I finished my inking.  I picked Mustard Seed and Fired brick and inked the inside of my Lattice die shape (they mixed nicely to give me an orangey sunset look.)   I find this easier to do a sort of pouncing motion myself rather than the usual circular motion that I ink with normally.  That way, it doesn't tend to get under the edges of the copy paper and it keeps the nice clean shape of your mask.  Once I was happy with the ink coverage, I stamped my wildflowers using a black archival ink pad.  I did not emboss.  I carefully removed my circle mask and stamped my sentiment so it was half in my moon area and half out of my shape. I matted that piece on black and my focal element was done.  I used one of the new A4 size embossing folders for my background.  This folder is coming up on one of my later shows but I didn't think a sneaky peek here would hurt (shhh, don't tell).  Matted that on black and card fini!  You can do this design in any colour combo and it looks good and it's a really quick card too.  What do you think, bow or no bow?  All for now, Sue x

You make everything look so easy, but I don't think I brave enough to have a go.
Beautiful card. Love the colours you used.
Hope the weather is great where you are too. it's our 3rd day of summer here.

  4. Orange isn't a colour I would choose but I am constantly being surprised at how stunning it looks with black on a white background. It's simply beautiful and yes, I think you made the right decision in not adding the bow.

  5. I cant believe Im saying this as I love your bows so much but I have to agree, this card does not need a bow. The simplicity is what makes this card so lovely.

  6. Hi Sue, you were right, no bow, it would take away the elegant simplicity of this card. Absolutely gorgeous.

  7. Absolutely no bow on this one. I'm not sure how you got the inking done - did you use a mask to protect the paper??

  8. Hello Sue

I love this card and I agree it doesn't need a bow it would drown the card and its delicacy. I am so glad you have posted this as I have just done the card with the dandelion clock on it with a similar background. It took so many attempts to get the blending right for the sunset but think I have it sorted so will be trying this one today as they are lovely.

  9. Good morning Sue, I agree with previous posts, on this occasion there is no need for a bow. I think a bow would spoil the uncluttered clean look.

Oh WOW Sue i love this, i love the warm sunlit scene and i love the silhouette stamps against that sunlight, i understand people saying they arent keen on orangey colours but to have the sunlight behind stamps it has to be sunlight colours oranges yellows and reds, i think it pops so well, love it, hugs vick xxx

  18. Like others have said orange is not a favourite of mine, but having said that I love sunsets and this works brilliantly. I hardly dare use the term Clean and Simple because there is so much work involved, but that's the impression it gives. Lovely. Christine x

  19. Good Morning Sue,
Yes, I agree too, no bow for this one, it is just perfect. I love the silhouette stamps, the embossing folder looks lovely (another must have!!) I bought a Splodge mat and it does make brayering and blending easier, as I was not good at it before, but now I play with my inks alot more, the results are getting better, the Splodge mat has even converted Barbra Gray - the brayering Queen - so it must be good.
    Have a great day everyone.

  22. Hi Sue, you´ve just made another masterpiece here, it´s absolutely gorgeous. These fallcolors are just awesome, BUT I admit, I would have put a ribbon in one of these colors around the lowest layer on the card, before adding the last layer, as I feel it would give a bit more to the slightly tame background, I think, but that´s ofcause just my private opinion. The entire card is awesome and I love the elegance in it.
Have a wonderful week-end everyone and lots of fun, I hope.

  26. Hi Sue

Beautiful card I love the way you have made a shape from the die and then inked a beautiful sunset. The background die is gorgeous can't wait for these to come out it will make it easier to do large backgrounds all in one. I adore your bows and flowers but I think this card is just perfect as it is stunning I love it. I just got a splodge mat and have only tried it once and it does make inking edges etc easier next I must try the brayering I have not had much success with this in the past so hey ho here we go. Have a lovely weekend.

Bow or no bow, this card works both ways. And it is beautiful :)
Yes, you're right, it would work with other colors too. Blue and purple would also be nice. But I really like these warmer colors.
The embossing folder is beautifull. But as I only have a Cuttlebug, an A4 folder will be too big for me :(

  132. Hi sue love the card and the colour of the sunset is lovely I don't think it needs a bow but I think I would put some gems or something on it as it looks unfinished to me!! Can't wait to see you on c+c on the 21st and what goodies you've got!! Love lesley xx

  133. Love the embossing folders, A4 size are really needed and long overdue. This card is fab and no bow decision is right, but l personally would have added a few gems or something. But all in all another winner. Hugs Ann

  139. Hi Sue

Love oranges and wonderfully warm colours. I definitely think a bow would be the WRONG thing. What a lovely stamp. Looking forward to your next show on C&C.

  152. Stunning card, but I think it needs something, maybe just orange pearls on the corners?
    Thanks for your inspiration!

  153. This is really really gorgeous Sue - I must have a go. I always keep the negative bits of card 'in case'!!! The colours do blend so well and the flower stamp looks super.

As for a bow - no no no! It would just spoil the simplicity.

  157. Hi Sue

I actually really like this card! I can see you could use a different colour way and it would still look stunning!

I dont think it is missing a bow - that would detract from the main image. Perfect!

  162. Hi Sue...I say No Bow...I love the simplistic look...maybe some pearls in the four corners or ink the edges of the card in the same colors...either way it's another stunner...warm and loving at the same time.
    Take care. Deborah :)

  168. I love the card. I think a bow would detract from it and as someone else commented could be used as a man's card - def no bow in that case! But if you did what colour would you use, mustard seed, black, white?

  170. Sue this is a gorgeous classy card. I love stamping and the colours you used. I am not sure about the bow, may have looked stunning, but think it is a bit stark and may, need something more. This is only my opinion and I personally find it difficult to leave lot of white space on my cards. Would be honoured to send or receive this card

No bow is just perfect. Loving the way you've blended the two colours together, it looks so warm & calming! Stunning! xx Love Karen xx
