Embossed Moroccans

Happy day after my birthday! LOL Yes, it was my birthday yesterday and I thought I was being so slick and not mentioning it.  The joke was on me when you guys saw the birthday card for me on Julia Watts blog!  I have to admit that I always read the comments on the blog first thing so I was so surprised to see all the birthday wishes.  I couldn't figure it out at first.  You should have seen me scratching my head, walking in circles, muttering, how did they know?  But I loved it!  I think it's the kid in me that still loves that special feeling you get on your birthday!  I hear the Queen even threw a big party for me!  Shame I couldn't make it, oh well, there's always next year! LOL
For today's card, I am hoping to remind you not to forget that you can emboss with your dies without having to cut anything and still make a nice card!  I think we all tend to just use our dies to cut stuff, but if you need a really quick card, this is it!  I stamped my sentiment on my card first.  Next I laid out my dies around my sentiment and taped them face down to the card.  I like the way they look when they are going off the edge of the card so this was deliberate.  If you don't, then just move them so they are entirely within the piece of card you are using.  If you notice, I used the same Moroccan Motif for both of the embossed areas.  To do this you will need to do have of your card, then move it and do the other half, but don't put your mat over the first one or your embossing will be made flat when you put it back through the machine.  I hope that makes sense.  I did, however, ink the die while it was still in place each time using Dusty Concord distress ink to help highlight the embossed areas and help them pop a bit.  Using the feather stamp from the Design Element stamp set, I added a few to the areas that were left unembossed to add interest to the background.  I added a swirl of black rhinestones across the page for a bit more interest after all it is a flat card without a bow so I didn't want you to be bored!  It cried out for some piercing around the edge so, of course, it had to be added, but that finished it off nicely I think.  There are a few close ups I've added, but I hope you will give it a try when you need a quickie next time.  Thanks again for your lovely wishes yesterday!  All for now, Sue x

  4. Hi Sue, yes have to admit Julia let the cat out of the bag regarding your birthday. Hope you had a wonderful day.

Pink and black go so well and the embossing looks great. When I attempted to emboss the die a few times on a card I wondered why it did not come out right. You solved that problem this morning by saying don't place tan mat on previous embossing. Thanks for that hint.

    Keep hints and tips coming.

  5. Hi Sue,
fantastic idea, and lovely card. Your right I also had forgot you could just emboss with your dies. Thank you for reminding us. What no bow. LOL. I have just coloured some flowers and ribbon with wild honey distress ink, they came such a pretty shade and looked fab on the Birthday card. Peeps you should try it if you haven't already I think you will like the finished colour.
Have a great crafty day everyone.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  16. Lovely technique Sue. Have tried it with other spellbinders and it worked out ok. I found that if you put the silicone paper down first and then the card on top you are less likely to cut through the card. Like the card very much Sue and Thanks.

  26. Good Morning Sue,
Glad you had a good day yesterday.
This is another card I will enjoy making. I did a similar sympathy card of yours - it had a cross as well as the moroccan die (I think)embossed in the same way - and I was pleased with the effect. I love that feather stamp - have been resisting it so far as I have Barbara Gray's Clarity feather stamps - but I know that the Creative Expressions one has other lovely stamps on the same sheet so it's only a matter of time .....!!
I don't really mind not being able to have everything at once as part of the pleasure is in the anticipation of the arrival of new things.
Looking forward to your next shows. Not long to wait now!
    Sue xx

  131. Hi Sue
You are right some of us do forget that we can just emboss, that we do not always have to cut. This card shows the finished look from just embossing and what a result.

  150. Ooops! I was so busy having a look at the card Julia made for you Sue that I was then distracted and forgot to leave my comment! Couldn't leave it out altogether because it is such a beautiful colour (to start with). Yet another technique I have to have a go at. It really does show that you can use these dies for so many techniques - you just have to have a brain which thinks outside the box!!! Brilliant example of 'embossing'. Just love this card.

  156. Hi Sue glad you had a lovely day despite scratching your head on how it was found out! Nothing wrong in getting excited like a child when it's your birthday! Keep those child like feelings there (for everything!). This card is lovely Sue. The added feather stamp & distress ink on the embossed die make it so effective xx Love Karen xx
