Happy day after my birthday! LOL Yes, it was my birthday yesterday and I thought I was being so slick and not mentioning it. The joke was on me when you guys saw the birthday card for me on Julia Watts blog! I have to admit that I always read the comments on the blog first thing so I was so surprised to see all the birthday wishes. I couldn't figure it out at first. You should have seen me scratching my head, walking in circles, muttering, how did they know? But I loved it! I think it's the kid in me that still loves that special feeling you get on your birthday! I hear the Queen even threw a big party for me! Shame I couldn't make it, oh well, there's always next year! LOL
For today's card, I am hoping to remind you not to forget that you can emboss with your dies without having to cut anything and still make a nice card! I think we all tend to just use our dies to cut stuff, but if you need a really quick card, this is it! I stamped my sentiment on my card first. Next I laid out my dies around my sentiment and taped them face down to the card. I like the way they look when they are going off the edge of the card so this was deliberate. If you don't, then just move them so they are entirely within the piece of card you are using. If you notice, I used the same Moroccan Motif for both of the embossed areas. To do this you will need to do have of your card, then move it and do the other half, but don't put your mat over the first one or your embossing will be made flat when you put it back through the machine. I hope that makes sense. I did, however, ink the die while it was still in place each time using Dusty Concord distress ink to help highlight the embossed areas and help them pop a bit. Using the feather stamp from the Design Element stamp set, I added a few to the areas that were left unembossed to add interest to the background. I added a swirl of black rhinestones across the page for a bit more interest after all it is a flat card without a bow so I didn't want you to be bored! It cried out for some piercing around the edge so, of course, it had to be added, but that finished it off nicely I think. There are a few close ups I've added, but I hope you will give it a try when you need a quickie next time. Thanks again for your lovely wishes yesterday! All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue, I'm first! This is a gorgeous card and reminds me I really must try this technique. Linda x
Good Morning Sue,
Once again another reminder that our dies can do more......forgot about this method.
Have a couple of cards to do today guess what I will be doing.
Thanks again for all the inspiration.
Have a great day
Patricia xx
lovely card Sue and that stamping is gorgeous. Hope you had a great day yesterday and that this next year will be fantastic for you, x
Hi Sue, yes have to admit Julia let the cat out of the bag regarding your birthday. Hope you had a wonderful day.
Pink and black go so well and the embossing looks great. When I attempted to emboss the die a few times on a card I wondered why it did not come out right. You solved that problem this morning by saying don't place tan mat on previous embossing. Thanks for that hint.
Keep hints and tips coming.
Wilma
Hi Sue,
fantastic idea, and lovely card. Your right I also had forgot you could just emboss with your dies. Thank you for reminding us. What no bow. LOL. I have just coloured some flowers and ribbon with wild honey distress ink, they came such a pretty shade and looked fab on the Birthday card. Peeps you should try it if you haven't already I think you will like the finished colour.
Have a great crafty day everyone.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Hello Sue, the embossing works really well on the cards and makes the dies even more versatile. So glad you had a Happy Birthday yesterday.
I remember this card from c&c- liked the idea then and like it now.Glad you had a good birthday- you should know someone will always find out! take carex
Hi Sue, I have tried to emboss in the past without too much success, guess what I was doing wrong. The concert was great, HRH even lilt a series of fires to guide you home. Best wishes Lesley x

Hello Sue
Happy Birthday for yesterday !
I love the techniques on this card..I did try it, but cut right though the card..I will follow your instructions and try again !
Have a lovely day Sue, you would have liked the party the Queen threw for you.lol !

Thanks for this we all need quick cards at some time and this one doesn't look like a rushed one. Pleased you enjoyed your Birthday with your Family. Mabex
Will give this a go soon. Very pretty and different use of the dies
Karen xx
Lovely technique Sue. Have tried it with other spellbinders and it worked out ok. I found that if you put the silicone paper down first and then the card on top you are less likely to cut through the card. Like the card very much Sue and Thanks.
gorgeous card havent tried this with my dies must have a try sue xxxx
A lovely card again Sue. I've not tried using my dies to just emboss, but must have a go. Hope you had a lovely birthday.
Carolyn B
So glad you enjoyed your birthday Sue. I hadn't really thought of just using the dies to emboss, so thank you for the reminder! It's very effective.

Lovely card sue, love that feather stamp i need it. hope you had a fab birthday xx hazel
Good Morning Sue, Hope you had a lovely birthday. I had forgotten this technique and i will be trying it later. My left arm is still in a sling but i can manage to turn the handle on my die cutting machine.
Lovewly card Sue. Hope you had a great day yesterday.
Good Morning Sue,
Glad you had a good day yesterday.
This is another card I will enjoy making. I did a similar sympathy card of yours - it had a cross as well as the moroccan die (I think)embossed in the same way - and I was pleased with the effect. I love that feather stamp - have been resisting it so far as I have Barbara Gray's Clarity feather stamps - but I know that the Creative Expressions one has other lovely stamps on the same sheet so it's only a matter of time .....!!
I don't really mind not being able to have everything at once as part of the pleasure is in the anticipation of the arrival of new things.
Looking forward to your next shows. Not long to wait now!
Sue xx
Thanks for the reminder! Don't think I do this often enough.
Thanks for the reminder of the versatility of dies! Happy birthday for yesterday! Many happy returns!

Great technique, thanks for reminding us of it.
WOW - LOVE the colour. I tend to put a piece of copy paper between the die and the card because I find that the embossing is a bit severe and cuts into the card. Anybody else found that?
lovely subtle style, although not the colour!
Thank you, Sue

A great card Sue, like a lot of the other comments, I haven't tried this, but will be very soon. Hope you had a great birthday, and wish you a fabulous year ahead x
OK, OK...I'm convinced I need this Moroccan die. I think I drool over every card you make with it. I'm new to die cutting, so really appreciate all the little "inside" hints about using them. Using the die like this and NOT using the mat when doing the 2nd one are going my reminder list. Thanks, Sue, and so glad you had a nice day. I'm sure your card from HRH is in the mail.
Hope you had a lovely birthday yesterday, shame you werent here for the celebrations you would have loved it!!!
Hi Sue, super card...yes I admit, I do tend to forget about just embossing with the dies! Carole Z x

You cant keep anything quiet, esp when you are loved so much... glad you had a good day.
I like this technique, just shows you what you can do with the dies instead of just cutting and then embossing them, why cant you just emboss and get a design, great and one I'll use..... x
Hi Sue, Very unusual colour but love it. A technique that you often forget to do, so it's great having you here to remind us! Glad you had a good birthday. Hugs, Carol S.xx
Hi Sue
You are right some of us do forget that we can just emboss, that we do not always have to cut. This card shows the finished look from just embossing and what a result.
Ria
A beautiful card and I love the colour. It's a good reminder that dies don't have to cut.

I love this idea - it is so simple.
I've never tried this method, great to try something new
Ooops! I was so busy having a look at the card Julia made for you Sue that I was then distracted and forgot to leave my comment! Couldn't leave it out altogether because it is such a beautiful colour (to start with). Yet another technique I have to have a go at. It really does show that you can use these dies for so many techniques - you just have to have a brain which thinks outside the box!!! Brilliant example of 'embossing'. Just love this card.
Hugs Sue Pass xx
Belated birthday wishes Sue! What a gorgeously rich colour for this card, the black swirl sets it off perfectly! Sue x
Sorry I missed out on checking in here yesterday.

Hi Sue glad you had a lovely day despite scratching your head on how it was found out! Nothing wrong in getting excited like a child when it's your birthday! Keep those child like feelings there (for everything!). This card is lovely Sue. The added feather stamp & distress ink on the embossed die make it so effective xx Love Karen xx
Hi Sue,
I've tried embossing with the Parisian dies with fab results.
