Sew Special

Happy Saturday!  How about a vintage look sewing card for today's post!  This is from designer Nina Brackett's new dies called Sewing Elements.  Don't you just love that old fashioned sewing machine?  It reminds me of the one my Mom had when I was growing up (a long time ago!LOL)  I created a distressed background using some Kaiser Craft papers that I had and by roughing the edges with my scissors.  I sewed around the edge (since it was a sewing card, I thought, why not!)  I added some crocheted ribbon and piece of fine tulle that I ripped to distress even more! On top of that, I added a large swatch square that I cut.  I inked it with pumice stone distress ink and stamped a couple of vintage buttons on it with a clear perfect medium pad.  I added my sentiment and an old button with a piece of twine tied into a bow.  I cut the sewing machine out of Co-ordinations card (black with a turquoise backing) and sanded the embossing to reveal the turquoise colour.  I mounted this on my Swatch square for my focal element.  I added a bow made from the aqua silky crush ribbon with a bit of the black tulle behind it.  In my craft stash, I had some ruler ribbon, so I made a flower out it and added it to the centre of my bow.  To complete the card, I added some black rhinestone swirls as an accent piece.  A little different, not my usual, but I hope you aren't disappointed!  All for now, Sue x

  9. Good morning Sue, know just the person this would suit, so will definitely be copying your example, you're such a brill tutor. I haven't got the sewing element dies, but the stamps arrived yesterday along with the card, which unfortunately was damaged (yet again a parcel arrives in bad condition!). I'll be using the stamp of the sewing machine to try a version of this lovely card. Take care Alison :)

  11. This is such a stunning card! So well thought out and I love the vintage feel and colors. Even the square bit of cardstock has a pinked edge to go with the sewing theme. I learned to sew on a machine not quite this old, but similar. I'm sure my mother will recognize it. More gorgeous ribbon really brings it all together.

  141. Hi Sue,
Wow, this is very different and again really lovely. As you know I am a big, big fan of your girlie girlie creations but now and again I just can't get enough of the shabby or grungey. Today, I am in love with the shabby girlie.
I like you, was brought up around a vintage sewing machine. My mum had a Singer treddle machine. My dad bought it for her before I was born and she used it regularly to alter clothers or recycle something of my parents to make clothes for us children. Being one of 7, money was tight but because of my dads many skills and mums craftiness with the sewing machine (she knitted also) we never went without. Funny how a card can evoke such wonderful memories.
Hope your Easter Sunday is a good day. Best wishes Linda x

  143. Disappointed? Are you kidding me? I LOVE this card! I really love your elegant cards too, but this one talks to me :) I love the little sewing machine with the turquoise peeking through - that is truly inspired! Thanks for sharing this gorgeous creation!

  148. Hi Sue, Still having problems posting, so my apologies if I do not always leave a comment. I am still dropping by every morning to be inspired (accessing is no problem). Thankyou in advance for all your hard work. Love the way that you have combined the kaiser craft papers & sewing theme. Wouldn't have thought it would work. But it so does. With Love & Light Theresa.
