Purple Iris

Hi everyone!  I also want to say big  hello to the newest members of the blog as we have had an extra surge in the followers of late.  Today's card is another from the Heartfelt Creations line of stamps and dies.  More colouring with this one and I have to confess to being a bit rusty at it.  The iris was done with coloured pencils as they were what I had handy to use when I made this card.  I used the matching die to cut out the iris, but then I stamped it one more time and cut it out only the top petals, this time by hand,  to mount upwards.  I added a few leaves around it and mounted it on an oval with a slightly larger purple oval mat.  I cut two chateau gate dies in black.  I taped the gate closed from behind and cut the die just below the centre under one of the swirls.  These were both done this way and then mounted end to end underneath the iris to give it a pretty scrolly outer frame.   Setting the focal element aside for a moment, I created the background by using the Valor embossibility folder to give it an embossed texture.  I added a border from two of the edgeability inserts with a cutting edge all done in white.  There is a backing piece done in a deeper purple that I just used the cutting edge to mirror the first border.  I added some pearl PVA glue dots down the middle of the two insert patterns.  I ran a piece of thwe silky crush ribbon around the card (under the border) and secured it to the back of the card and added a bow with glue dots.  I stamped my sentiment on a tag and inked lightly around it.  I added it to my bow with a bit of Bakers Twine.  I mounted my focal element on 3D foam above my ribbon and bow, added a few decorative stick pins and pierced around the edge to finish it off.  So you have my early signs of spring here even if Mother Nature isn't cooperating! LOL  All for now, Sue x

  3. Hi Sue,
Yep still up again, so a fairly short one from me sorry! I will get back into a good sleeping pattern again if it kills me.
Anyway, I really like this card and it is lovely to see you colouring stamped images again. You have done a wonderful job and the image is really bright and cheerful.
I did actually start singing but I don't know if its right and being so tired now I can' think straight. It goes something like this Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
    Lavender's green
When you are king, dilly dilly,
I shall be queen.' Random I know and probably a bit wrong but thought I'd tell you anyway (they will cart me off in a straight jacket one of these days..lol!!)
Well I hope you and everyone else has a lovely weekend.
    Happy Easter all.
Hope you can pop by my new blog and say Hi.

  4. Irises are one of my favorite flowers and I'm waiting for them to show themselves here the NW US. The border die is one of my favorites. Adding the hatpins with the beautiful bow is a great touch. Nice, as always!

  5. Good morning Sue,
Beautiful card once again. I must say that each day my addiction to Spellbinders gets worse. I am now waking up in the middle of the night with ideas and fight the urge to get up and go creating. Last night I made another card and really impressed myself. The recent dies I have purchased have been the best investment I have ever made. Not really having a hobby before, this has taken over my life. Thank you so much for the pleasure you have brought me.

    Regards Chris X

Sue your passion for black must be rubbing off on me as I made my first ever black based card yesterday! 136. Hi Sue
I have been a follower of yours for quite some time and think you have revolutionised crafting in a way that is all your own. Spellbinders are fabulous and anybody starting out can get professional results with them along with you and your inspiration.
I have crafted all my life so far from paper crafting, sewing, knitting, crochet and most other crafts, but when spellbinders came along they blew me out of this world. The results you get from paper and card is just so amazing.
Thanks for all your fabulous demos and inspiration. I love your blog nd your cards.

    Thanks again
    Venetia

  146. This is breathtaking Sue! I love purple and irises are so sweet! This is truly a work of art - I would hang it on my wall :) I love that ribbon and the embossing and the coloring is gorgeous - I use colored pencils for all of my coloring at the moment but mine looks like a child colored it!

  148. Hi Sue, Beautiful card. I knew that it wasn't, but at first sight (on the laptop) the Iris looked as if it had been embroidered!
I don't have these dies but will try with what I have, plus the Iris stamp from the lovely Nature's Botanicals stamp plate which I had from you as my recent prize - thank you again for that. My colouring won't be as good as yours but I will enjoy doing it.

  155. Hello Sue. It's so good to see stamping and colouring combined with Spellbinders. I'm now totally committed to my dies but I'm beginning to reaa=lly enjoy stamping, Your recent cards have been very encouraging and certaining don't look 'rusty' in any way. Ilove the decopage 3D image really comes across well on photo.

  156. Ooooh, this is stunning, Sue.
Your colouring is ace :) No one would guess this was 'rusty' colouring, lol.
The black dies behind the Iris sets it off a treat - and your beautiful sliky crush ribbon is the perfect finishing touch.

  161. Hello Sue.
    Great Card as always!
I have just signed up as follower on your blog but I've been checking in everyday to see your wonderful creations as well as for inspiration for some time. I really enjoyed all the recent shows on C&C and while I am sure you were in need of a rest by the time you had finished I was disappointed not to be seeing you for the remainder of the week!
A big thank you for sharing all your ideas. Joan B.
