Hem Your Blessings

Good morning everyone!  It is Sunday morning and I know that I usually announce the winners of the comment game, but since I am away at Ally Pally at the moment, I need to postpone it until Monday afternoon.  Sorry about the delay, but the good news is that we will have extra winners this week since we had some posts with over 200 comments this week!  In the meantime, how about a sewing card done in Kraft card.  I just love kraft card and find myself reaching for it all the time.  It distresses great, takes the ink beautifully, coloured pencils look fab on it, and it is reasonably priced, what's not to love about it! I used another patterned kraft for the bottom of the card and a kraft card ribbon for a border.   I cut three dressform dies out of patterned kraft card allowing the pattern to end up randomly on the dressforms.  To bring them out a bit more against the background, I cut three dressforms out of "milk" coloured card to use as shadows behind them, just peeking out a bit.  On the background, I used some of Sam Poole's brilliant sewing stamps and randomly stamped them using a coffee archival ink pad.  I stamped a sentiment in black and I inked the edges with walnut stain distress ink.  I used my Mom's sewing machine to sew a zigzag around the top edge of the background.  This was my first attempt at using her machine so I ended up with a wide zigzag (I had wanted it to be a bit tighter, but after I played with it a bit, I figured it out!)  I had some lovely black velvet ribbon that had a bit of a lace woven into it that I brought from my craft stash.  I used it to ruch down the side of the card.  I added a few old buttons that I found in my button stash to the top and bottom of the card.  I tied a bow with some black American seam binding and added a fancy button to it.  I added the bow to my ruched strip right where it met the paper ruler border and a couple of crystal stick pins for an accent.  I finished the card with black PVA glue dots all the way around the edge to frame it.  I just love the sewing themed cards,  just wish I could actually sew!  All for now, Sue x

  103. Hi Sue, I think this has to be my favourite of your sewing cards. Shadowing the dressmaker's dummies was inspired. If this is what you can do when you only have a small stash with you why do I have a room full of stuff and can't come up with anything half as good? :-)
Hope you have been enjoying yourself at Ally Pally and aren't worn out as we constantly need more inspiration. Any chance you will ever come up to Scotland? All the big shows are too far away for your many fans living here.

  106. Good afternoon Sue,
I love this card and the dress forms, I don't have these dies but I do own a dress form die by a well known gentleman and I just love using it.
I used to be a machinest working for some top designers in the business and whom dressed the royals (mainly the gorgous belated royal)But ask me to make something now and I run a mile (never really enjoyed the job as it had to be perfect every single time, no errors or flaws anywhere) Lol
But I'm a complete nightmare now when I go clothes shopping as I can spot a flaw in the fabric or error a mile off.
Now the perfection is translated to my other crafts so it can take forever to complete lol
    Have a great Day

  107. AT LAST Sue!!!! I can open your blog properly!!!

Thanks for the suggestion of using Google Chrome rather than Blogger to view your posts. It has been SO frustrating to catch a glimpse of your masterpieces each week and not be able to see them in their full glory.

And today's post is no exception. Your eye for layout is second to none and you come up with such different ways of using die cuts.

It was great to catch up with you and the rest of the Creative Expressions dream team at Ally Pally yesterday. Getting to ask questions and see your work up close and personal was such a thrill and the ideas were so inspiring. Just need 36 hours in a day now! (and a never-ending pot of gold!!)
