Red and Tan Simplicity

Good morning all!  I thought a simple card for today's post would work nicely.  I chose this red card for the background since it matched the new striped ribbon that I am enjoying using now.  I embossed the background with the new Embossibility folder, giving it a lovely deep impressions.  I tucked the end of the ribbon under it at the top and let it hang down.  I cut out the largest size of the Romantic Rectangle die to use as a backing for my focal element.  I cut it down the centre and realigned the pattern to create a square.  The seam is hidden by the points on the red Persian Motif.  I stamped my sentiment and then cut it out with the Splendid Circle dies.  Using a bit of fired brick distress ink, I inked through the die to highlight it.  I layered up all the pieces to sit atop the ribbon piece.  I cut out the square piece from the damask accents and you can see it peeking out from underneath the ribbon which is being held in place by the ribbon buckle die cut.  I cut the ribbon into a "V" shape to give it a finished look.  You're probably not surprised to see the edge pierced as it is one of my favourite techniques!  I have had a few emails about the piercing lately too so I thought I would add a word here about it.  I use the Tim Holtz design ruler for my piercing but I anchor my ruler on either side of the card with some push pins to keep it steady while I am piercing.  I hope that helps answer any questions you may have had.  All for now, Sue x

  61. Hi Sue
as u know from time to time to get me going i try your cards but always alter something. Today i did a cracker. I went OTT femmine, i did pink and white and changed the ribbon to lace and grief i love it. Followed similar design but different dies. Used fler de lis squares, saved me a job, and lattice motifs on top.Extra layer for sentiment. bingo. With Simplicity to finish the back ground it could be one of yours.
Love todays card think you have excelled yourself with the cards lately. Brill. You just seem to keep getting better and better.
Hope u have your feet up today. U really have earned it.

  131. Hi Sue,
I can see a picnic blanket, a red rose, champers and strawberries, as a couple fly high above the ground enjoying a very romantic ride.
So can you tell what I am singing today, Oh come on now, its pretty evident - isn't it?
'Up, up and away, My beautiful, my beautiful balloon. We could float among the stars together, you and I, For we can fly, we can fly.'
A really lovely card Sue and it, as you can see, reminds me of a hot air balloon. I love the deep but rich red and that ribbon is so good and is a perfect companion for this card. How different it would have looked if you had used.. organza, for instance?! I don't mean bad, just so different.
I sometimes look at cards and give them emotions, so to speak, and this card is what I call a 'strong' feminine card.
Do you do that in your own way, match a card to the recipient? Frilly and frou-frou for a girlie girl or ballerina and 'strong' ribbon and colour for the capable aunt? I love to imagine what the crafter was after when they create a card. Was it just happenstance or was it well planned and predetermined?
Mine can be both, often starting planned yet ending up completely different. Isn't card making exciting!
Have a great week. All the best.
    Linda x
