Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hi crafters!  Seeing that this is the first card that I have ever made using mirror card, I thought it would be only appropriate to offer it on the Wednesday Card Giveaway!  I do think that it is quite pretty in real life so I hope that you will too.  I started by stamping the Filigree poinsettia stamp all the way around the edge of a piece of gold mirror card using a clear perfect medium pad.  You have to be a bit careful when stamping as it is a slippery surface.  I heat embossed it with clear embossing powder, giving a bit of texture to the background of the card.  Next I embossed a smaller piece of Ruby red card with the Nordic Tiles embossing folder.  Once embossed, I coated it with Berry Red sparkle Texture paste and paper grouted the design, removing the excess so the paste was only covering the negative portions of the design.  I allowed that to dry overnight, then matted it with gold mirror card and white mats and added it to the centre of the card with mounting foam.  I cut the Ornate Holly Framed Peace die in gold mirror card and added it to the centre.  I cut a Lavish Joy out of white card twice and stacked them together, gluing them in the centre of the die.  I stamped several of the same poinsettia stamp onto white card and heat embossed them with gold embossing powder, cut them out with the matching Poinsettia Addition dies and created three flowers for the card.  I seated the largest one in the lower corner and the two smaller ones in the opposite corner.  Berry Sprigs were cut and added to all the flowers as accents.  The card was completed with white, red and gold mirror mats.  The finished dimensions are 8 1/4" x  8 1/4" in size.  Please leave a comment to be included in the drawing to win this one.  I will announce the winners name on Saturday's blog post.  All for now,
Sue x

  1. Beautiful card for the giveaway Sue. The lucky winner will be delighted. I love it.
June hope you are well, and that you are progressing each day. Big hug to cheer you on.
Betty, so glad you are feeling better each day .
Tina and Peter, water is good for you but I cannot drink a lot of it, find it boring. Have you tied freezing puréed fruits in ice cube trays to add to the water, will give a shot if taste but not too sweet.
Elaine, how is Andrew, hope he is feeling a little better each day.
Tina and Mick, best wishes to you both.
    Tracey, how did Zac behave.
Wendy, good luck for Thursday, not an easy thing to contemplate after such a long time. If they want loyalty they want you.
Hugs to all especially if not well or sad.

  15. Morning Sue. I'm not a lover of mirri card and I've admitted to being a mirri card snob on my other posts, but the new Foundations card is so subtle and not at all 'common' like other's on the market - see, a true snob but ask if I care lol why spoil a beautiful card with in your face cardstock (besides I'm no oil painting and you can't see that awful reflection laughing back at you !! So we'll done CE for helping us other card snobs by bringing this very subtle mirri type card to us.
And with it being the main attraction here today, it's help make a real beauty that anyone would be proud of receiving. So this snob is signing off now leaving hugs with you for the day and hope it's a good one xxx

  51. Hello Sue,

The Lavish Joy maketh the lavish card!...lol...absolutely scrumptious, love the classic colour theme in ruby, gold and white and I've already added the Nordic folder to my wish list having watched you grouting it on Hochanda, love the new mirror card too, more subtle than the bog-standard variety which I have but use very sparingly and only for C cards as it's too garish to use at any other time of the year...I've added that to the wish list too...

June - hope you're feeling better each day...

The result is beautiful... note to self, I really do need those poinsettia dies and Stamps! A lovely lady told me there are only 9 weeks to go until the fat man in a red suit has made his deliveries, so I guess I should make a start at my cards lol. I need to make my advent calendar first though, I need to pick a time when the kitten is sleeping :).

  69. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, a stunning card today, saw you doing this on Hochanda and it looked good. my mirror card and Nordic Tiles ef arrived from my supplier yesterday, don't feel up to doing any craft at the moment but will do soon.

I am home and it was a nightmare - I wait all day for an ambulance to bring me home and at 9pm they told me they would not have one at least until the next day..................I was so angry, I rang my hubby (he was ready for bed) and got him to come up and collect me, it was so painful getting in and out of the car and then up my 5 big step's but we did it. everyday I can do a little tiny bit better then the one before so now it is exercises, exercises and more exercises, hubby has been brilliant at looking after me so I am in good hands.

I will not be on here long as it is not comfortable to sit at my PC at the moment, but please know I am thinking of you all hugs.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  119. Just love your stunning card Sue. I do use Mirri card to mat and layer but have never thought to stamp and emboss on it and then to make it such a beautiful part of the card. Great idea and it's fabulous.
Good luck Wendy for your interview tomorrow, Elaine hope Andrews had a better day today, thank you everyone for your good wishes.
June good to hear you are home again.

I have not been on here for ages. Health problems with my eyes.

I was perusing my e-mails with the screen enlarged, and I came across your beautiful stunning Christmas card.

Gold and Red are my colours too especially for Christmas.

I just had to write and let you know how beautiful this card is.

    Lots of love to everyone.

Beautiful Card. I love the gold mirror card mat and the paper grouted layer. It's a lovely focal element and the white poinsettias are just great. A Classic rich look, it looks like Julia and yourself are in sync today, lol. Thanks for sharing.

  129. I too watched your tv demo of this lovely rich card with interest and was intrigued to hear you say you had never used mirror card before. Neither have I although for no particular reason. I am glad to see that I am not the only one who promptly went out and bought some!! Now to pluck of courage to use it as you have done ....... I think sacrificing a sheet of the card to play with it is in order to see if I can follow in your footsteps!

  133. Good afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Well, you could have knocked me down with a feather when i saw you use Miri card!!??!? Have pigs sprouted wings and has Hell dropped below freezing? :-) It has been years since i used it too, it used to play a large part in my matting and layering but my style has changed and i found myself favouring plain card instead. However, seeing how effective your stamping technique was i could very well be seduced into using it again for my festive cards...i would never have thought to make it such a feature of a card but it really works, the gold is soft and subtle and not in the least bit garish. The Nordic Tiles EF is just gorgeous, particularly when grouted with the texture paste, another thing that I wouldn't have thought of myself. The star of the show are the lovely poinsettias, they are stunning and finish off a festive card perfectly. A beautiful example of your talents Sue and an appropriate card to offer to your adoring public-)
Been absent for a few days, no excuses really other than ive been rather busy, tried to keep up with the lovely posts and comments but it gets very challenging remembering what's happening to whom so apologies if i forget something crucial. Ive been busy with hospital, dental and shopping duties so far this week so by the time the evening comes round im cream crackered, this time of year always sees my energy levels dipping and my mood slipping, im dreading the clocks going back again when the days get progressively shorter. Im hoping to take my mind off it by rustling up some christmas cards, my favourite cards to make, and ive no excuses this year since ive bought all but four of the festive release.
Was cheered immensely to see Sues newest release previewed yesterday, it contained everything we could have hoped for and had indeed asked for:-) When Yvonne and i met her at Ally Pally she asked about our ideas for new dies and we compiled a lengthy list of desirables....little did we know that Sue has already half a dozen steps ahead of us and already had many of them in the offing. You are a wonder Sue, a force of nature and you don't need any help from us when it comes to knowing what people want, can i just say that naming your latest collection after the Pacific Ocean has my definite seal of approval, much classier than Croydon if you ask me:-) I wont spoil the surprise of what the release features, many may want to wait for the blog official launch, but i will say that im more than happy with the variety on offer.
Spoke with Yvonne last night and since she's having a tough time of it physically lately i will be kind.....i think she's suffering from some form of depression following my departure and is finding it hard to motivate herself. She's tried making brownies and scabby Rosties for other people but they clearly don't show the same appreciation that i did and can't replace my sparkling wit and infectious personality either come to think of it. We should all take this into account as she readjusts to life without me, be gentle with her and i will promise to refrain from any barbed comments or insults for the time being...sorry to disappoint ladies but she's delicate and needs careful handling lest she slip over the edge:-)
June, how lovely to hear from you, im glad you're finally home even if it has been difficult and painful at times to negotiate. Plenty of physio will help you through the pain barrier and aid healing leaving you a new woman. Hopefully you are able to get a decent nights sleep now, and great that hubby is so caring. Sending hugs.
P, how's your little foster boy doing, what age is he now and will you find him another home do you think?
Wheely, hope you and Billy are well, hugs to you both.
Tracy, enjoy playing with your new toys, I'll really need to take myself down to Craftworld but I don't know if my credit card would survive the experience:-)
    Maria, hope you're okay sweetie
    Cuddles to all.

Ah - the famous mirror card offering which is rich and opulent. I used to use mirror card all the time in my early craft life but in time it became redundant. I used to think it looked a little 'gaudy' but the way you have stamped it (something I have never done), is absolutely staggering x
Just as I start to feel a little more human something throws a spanner in the works. Bit of an issue last night. George was out and phoned about 10 and had lost his keys. (House and car)!! Jake in his usual calm and diplomatic way took the spare car key to George. On his way back he managed to prang his van spectacularly. He was livid! The atmosphere is pretty challenging as you can imagine. Not the first time George has lost house keys. Told Jake not to talk to him til he has calmed down. Oh joy!
So still not up to speed with you all I'm afraid. Spoke to Laine last nighht before the key incident! We discussed the new dies - definitely got our vote of approval - they are AMAZING!
There are 6 new pixie powders available - I ordered 2 of them today - I will let you know x
Sending happy thoughts and lots of love to everyone specially my Besties on the blog. To absent friends and anyone struggling or suffering take care x

Billy is doing so, so well, we had a wee hiccup Saturday when I woke at about 3am to see him with blood on his fur. He'd started feeling better and had been more active so the scar that had formed wasn't strong enough so he started bleeding again. Up to the vets Saturday at a sensible time where they dressed it- after he had flat refused to go in the treatment room and leave us, slipping his house collar and buster collar in the process. Once I calmed him down we got sorted, after I told the vet he'd be ok having his leg dressed but you wouldn't get the lampshade on without a muzzle! They gave me two dressings which I had to do with Mr on Sunday and Monday as Bill soaked through them then both but on Tuesday the dressing came off and no more bleeding. The bruising is nearly gone and he's putting weight on the leg. Problem now is holding him back but he's being very good, still tries to get on the sofa so if we leave it we have to put stuff on the cushions! He goes on his bed to rest most of the time he's told but one problem is he's got super clingy as he's afraid of being left like he was in the vets I guess. We've had to go doctors last few days and had howling and all sorts but getting home he's been fine and no damage to anything so we got another plug in for him in case though he might just be trying his luck after getting all the additional attention, he doesn't even like me leaving him in the living room if I go to another room so now the plug in is in place I'll withdraw for a short time each day. All the extra car rides and laying on floor doing dressings has took its toll on me though hence why I've struggled to visit and now he's coping better I've faded a bit, normal service resumed today when he alerted me to a blackout. I need a good rest now for a few days as I'm very tired plus have another water infection but we got to get back to Mr applying for jobs so if I don't get the chance to visit you'll know why. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for having Billy in your thoughts, something must explain how well he's doing in just a week!

I shall visit as soon as I can, I've missed reading your news and you're all in my thoughts. Wishing you all happy crafting and happy days, big hugs,

    T x
