Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hello there bloggers!  I'm sure many of you heard me say that I would be giving away the demo cards from the Hochanda shows on my blog.  So what better way than to include them in the Wednesday weekly card giveaway.  First up is the Mini Poinsettia striplet card.  For this one, I started by embossing the coconut white card background with the new Contemporary Poinsettia embossing folder.  I really like this folder as it is just a lovely floral texture background for your festive cards and projects.  Next I cut two of the Mini Poinsettia Striplets in white card and glued them together with permanent spray glue and matted them a white backing card.  Using the Berry Sparkle PVA glue, I filled in all the poinsettias and the double thickness of the two striplets allowed a bit of a reservoir to do so. Don't forget that the Berry Sparkle PVA glue starts out in the bottle looking very pink, but dries a beautiful sparkly red.  I have taken extra pictures of it so hopefully it will show just how pretty it dries.   Don't worry about staying within the lines of the flowers either, just try not to allow the glue to go into the background areas around the flowers.  I decided to leave them empty to show off the dimension, but you could easily use another glue colour to fill those in as well if desired.  Allow to dry well (I leave them overnight usually to be sure), then cut another poinsettia striplet and glue over the top so the lines are placed back in place!  I added small pearls to the centres of each flowers as accents.  Using the Classic Poinsettia die, I cut several in Rich red card to make some flowers for the corner.  I seated them on some white tulle and a messy bow tied from white seam binding.  I also added some Bakers Twine on the original (I may have missed this on the demo card)  Also, not shown in this photo, I added some Star Sprays in white around my flowers during the actual demo and finished it off with a pearl swirl.  Next I paper pierced a white mat, added a thin mat of rich red card and a final white mat.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  7 3/4" in size.

Please leave a comment if you would like to be included in the drawing for this card.  I am away at the Big Crafting Show at Ally Pally this weekend so the card winner and all of the comment game winners will be announced on Monday instead of their normal days.  I will however, be posting the winners of the latest die release later on today so don't forget to check back to see if your name has been drawn!!
On the right hand side of my blog, I have also added the show times for my next appearances on Hochanda.  It is a Friday night launch and all day Sat. this time around!   Phill Martin has a One Day Special today, though so be sure to tune in at 9am, 12pm, 4pm and 7pm to see his fabulous demos!  All for now, Sue x

  13. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes on this very wet and dismal day, please take care if you are out and about. Todays card gives a real warm to the day, the lovely red colour certainly brings out the wonderful dies, I saw you make it on Hochanda and was mesmerised - gorgeous, yes like everyone I would love to win in.

Saw Phill last night on Hochanda he was really good, got craft this morning so will miss the first 2 sessions today but will see the rest and I am sure they will repeat the episodes again although the offer will not be on there.

Enjoy Wednesday, stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  16. A real red Christmas card, Sue, who wouldn't love to have this one? Yes, did hear you say you would give Hochanda cards away - ever generous!
Saw a little bit of Phill last night, and he was with Lee which made for a great show. Think they said he'd be with Alex today, who he hasn't yet met. Could be good.

Anyone heard from Lynne M or Sam Smithard, are you okay? Hope so.

  28. Hi Sue & Wilsonettes

A beautiful card Sue & I gasped with delight when I first saw you demo how this Berry sparkle PVA changed from a pink to the beautiful red, have used it to fill on top of embossed berries & the results were absolutely stunning - so glad I have this as part of my stash - I think I am now brave enough to try your technique of filling in the Poinsettias - I'll fill you in on the results (one day Lol). I love absolutely everything about this stunning card Sue from the embossing to the fabulous technique of 2 layers over the Poinsettias (probably need it to cover up my shaky imperfections.

June S - I sincerely hope you do manage to find a lift my friend - I have had the same problem of not being able to find/share a lift, so perhaps us Wilsonettes who are left holding the fort whilst our friends are Ally Pallying their day away should think of a funny story to tell each other on the blog to console ourselves & to cheer us (I'm thinking of mine already Lol) x x x

Well my friends I didn't comment yesterday as I was having a fairly good day,so decided to take all my computer/ hub/ printer etc away from the desk, give it all a darn good polish/vacuum & rearrange them & the endless bunch of cables better so easier to clean etc...so I did all this, switched back on & thought great I can now log on & comment - uh oh the hub wouldn't light up - ok so I dropped it but at low level & onto carpet - switched off to reset but still nothing...phoned BT & spoke to a nice lady, told her what happened & she promptly said "have you switched on the tiny, very hard to see power button the back of the hub, bottom left" DOH!!! guess who felt a right silly Charlie & I would have crawled into a shell to hide my embarrassment - if I had one, guess I should of gone to Specsavers - Lol x x x

I just wanted to send sincerest wishes of good luck to each & everyone who has commented on Sue's tremendously fabulous launch...hope you win one of the very generous gifts to treasure x x x

Sue your generosity to your loyal fans is beyond words -so thank you (seeming such a mediocre word) sincerely from my heart for your kindness & generosity to the lucky winners. Good luck my friends x x x

Oops I must close now as Mr B is up for work (10 hour day today bless him) So I would like to wish you Sue all friends a lovely day & sending love 'n' hugs for those who would like one sent their way. take care Beth B x x x

  56. Regarding the striplet, I have tried this twice and, although the second attempt was better than the first, neither berry sparkled striplet looks as good as yours. I will persevere though because the end product is gorgeous as is shown in your sample. The berry sparkle certainly surprises with its change from dull pink when wet to that beautiful red when it is dry. I have also decided to invest in some spray thanks to your usage of it in your demos. Oh heck,Sue, you are costing me money!!!!!!!!!

  61. Hi Sue,
What a truly beautiful Christmas card. I love the mini poinsettia striplet and that embossing folder is just delightful. Love the red and white combination too.anyone would love to receive this!
Oh Beth, you have made me giggle! I know just how you feel at the end of every term we had to switch off and unplug all of the computers etc in the classrooms. On one occasion at the start of the new term, I asked my support assistants to plug everything in ready for the next day as I had to go to a meeting. They duly did this, so the next day, I had a group of Year 11 students and needed them to do some work on the computers. Anyway to cut a long story short, computers on one table wouldn't work, sent for IT technicians to fix problem and one of assistants had forgotten to switch them on. How stupid did I feel!! You can imagine what the kids said!!!
Good luck to everyone for later on - I hope there's some familiar names there. Love and hugs to all, Alison xxx

3 more sleeps to go. I will try and restrain myself from knocking you over when I give you a bear hug but I would advise full body armour and a mattress on the floor to give you a soft landing. Please ignore anything that Lorraine decides is fair game to 'warn you' about me. I can assure you that whatever she says is just not true. She is painting a picture of someone who is completely off her rocker and I can assure you that I am far worse than that x
Managed to catch Phill's show at 8 last night then watched it all over again at 10. Would hate to think that I had missed anything. And guess what I am watching right now. You and Phill are going to need a holiday after Ally Pally. I presume that adrenalin plays a big part in the fact that you can keep going with such enthusiasm and warmth which we are all so grateful for x

Beth - and here's thinking that it was only me who did things like that - is it so wrong that I laughed out loud so much at your expense? Lol x
Sandra - I am really looking forward to meeting you and all the other lovely Wilsonettes x
Alison - such a simple mistake to make but I bet the kids didn't forget about it for ages x
Lorraine/Thelma - do you mind I do not appreciate your quest to ruin my reputation. I am perfectly capable of annihilating my own reputation without any unwanted help from you! I will have you know that my tag was removed some time ago and my ASBO has expired. Lol.
Ruin my stew - how absurd. I am such a fantastic cook that I could not make the end result of whatever I 'throw together' anything less than delectable. In fact I feel a cake coming on to share with all those lovely Wilsonettes at the weekend. I will have them eating out of my hand, so to speak.
Tena lady?? I am thinking that maybe pampers may be the order of the day as my excitement is reaching new levels.Get yourself sorted girl and see if you can make the trip in April or even next September. I don't think anyone else will want to meet you but I feel a little sorry for you so out of sympathy and duty will give you 5 minutes of my time as long as you promise that you will be fully clothed x
Saba - thanks for update on Deb C x
Maria - I am a little concerned about the word restrain - you will be gentle with me won't you x
Wheely Bad - Billy is just like a toddler - without the tantrums. Sending you a hug x
Only a little while now until I find out which die I have won! Lol. Good luck everyone else. Have a lovely day.

  120. Good morning Sue

Just loved your shows on Hochanda and looking forward to seeing you on the channel more in the future.

Well todays card is really beautiful and the smaller card is so useful. Although I do make loads of 8 x 8, I think this is big on design without being too big on cardstock!

I love the background folder and although it is a Poinsettia which is typically Christmas, I think it could be used at anytime of the year.

  126. Hi Sue

I really, really love this card. I am still catching up on the Hochanda shows and I watched you make this card late last night before I went to bed. The colours are lovely, and the tecnique so unique for the striplet filling. Obviously being a flower addict, I love the embossing folder and poinsettia flowers. ( I know, they are leaves but you know what I mean).

Glad you will be on our screens again so soon.

What a beautiful stunning card, I was mesmerised watching you make this card on Hochanda, it started off looking so messy with the "pink" pva and then it turned into this fabulous deep red sparkling wonder. Love it to bits. And it is so kind of you to be giving us the opportunity to win this scrumptious beauty. Thank you.

Good luck to everyone for this afternoons draw.

  138. Good morning Sue and the Wilsonettes from a crisp and foggy day up here at Glenochil and my Ochils. I just love poinsettias Sue and this beauty is no different as it is stunning. The depth that you have got with the striplet and the red sparkle just hits you between the eyes. I love the folder you have used for the background as it is just right for the card. You keep doing things that change my top musts that i need when next flush but this to me is just such a stunningly beautiful card that i must and need to copy, i'm not even going to try and change it sorry as i just think it is beautiful. Sue have a great time at the AP for the next few days, although i know that you have that anyway but i know that there is an awful lot of people coming just to see you that i think we need to start a fan club, lol. x
Well the mist and fog has encapsulated my hills today so they are at the moment having a long lie under the covers of it and it's a bit nippy but hey it's not exactly Florida Springs here in the height of summer is it in Scotland. OK while clearign out the greenhouses down at mum's i came across a toy that i played with as a child that had been my mums toy.....a gird and cleek. Now although i need to de rust it with the wire brush and sand paper it didn't have bring back memories of being outside my Nana's with it and trying to make it go along the flat pavement. There was a knack to this turning and keeping it spinning and once mastered oh the sky was the limit about finding the biggest hill that you could run down with it. Of course OH reckons it's just a piece of junk that is worth nothing and what use uis it anyway. You can tell that his parents had money to get all six of them proper toys where mine made do with what we had and what could be found out in nature like climbing trees as opposed to having a proper swing park like they had near them, and jumping the burn and playing Pooh sticks at the Whins of Milton park next to my Auntie Ella's. Yes the old fashioned toys and the games that we played outside made out of nothing but our imagination was great fun. Now then does anyone else remember these simple toys and games or have i just escaped the 20th centuary altogether and went back to the 19th.
Have a great day whatever you are doing today with hugs going out to all my wilsonette angels,
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil)
PS Sorry Sue the gird and cleek has probably went right over your head as it is a Scottish toy(in the very loosest sense of the word). It was a narrow wheel of iron with an iron stick(cleek) attached to it and that is what you kept it spinning with trying to keep it going as long as possible. :D

  160. A wonderful Wednesday to Sue & the WW!
This is such a pretty card. I watched the demonstration on Hochanda, but I couldn't really see the red properly. Now that I've seen the photos and can zoom in, I'm even more impressed! It almost looks like enamel. I love the richness of the red and the sparkle! What a delight it would be to see it in person!
I've been reading over the posts of the last couple days and I saw some to which I wanted to reply, but of course by the time I got to the end of the posts, I couldn't remember exactly what was said, or who it was that said it. I've gone back over them at least twice and still can't find them...I used to have a memory like a steel trap (or so I was told) but I'm afraid it would be better likened to Swiss cheese now. Arghhh I get so annoyed with myself! Oh well, perhaps I'll find them later. But if someone said something to me & I don't respond, please accept my apologies!
I agree with Beth, (I think it was Beth, I'm telling you, my brain is full of Swiss cheese) those of us not able to go to Ally Pally will have to find a way to commiserate together to keep us from despair (no more weeping in the corner Rebecca!) I'm happy for all those who get to go and I truly hope you have a wonderful time! In fact, have a grand enough time for all of us :)
Beth & Alison, after 1 or 2 (ok, maybe more) similar experiences as those you've described, I've finally got to the point now that the first thing I say to tech support (be it for the computer, the Internet or Direct TV) is, "yes, it's plugged in and turned on, yes, I've tried re-booting it". I may have learned that lesson but I evidently haven't been able to generalize the information to other areas: A couple weeks ago it took me about 4 minutes to figure out my toast hadn't popped up yet because I had plugged in the blender instead of the toaster - Doh!
On that embarrassing note, I will say goodnight (once again, the joy of this blog has kept me up way past my bedtime! I'll be dragging at work after my shortened sleep).
Good luck to all on the drawings! So exciting!!!
