Hi bloggers! This card was my first experiment into my high-low technique several months ago. I liked the results so much that I had to use it in a card so here is what I made. To start from the very back up, though, I used the Dainty Doily stamps from Justrite and stamped it all over black card using a clear Perfect Medium pad. I heat embossed it with black embossing powder for the tone on tone look. Next I covered a piece of card with a self adhesive sticky sheet. I peeled the backing off exposing the adhesive and placed my "Funky" mask on it (after I inked it with perfect medium to help it release). I covered the exposed area with Diamond Sprinkles glitter. I tapped off the excess well, then carefully peeled up the mask. This exposed a different area of the mask design. This time, I covered the exposed area with clear micro beads which completed the design but gave a different height to it as well. Thus the "high-low" technique was born. You can achieve this look with a number of products from mica powders to glitters to gilding flakes to micro beads. You can use contrasting colours or do as I have done for a tonal look, but it always looks smashing! It adds lovely combination of interest and texture to your cards. As a bit of a teaser, I have been playing around with variations on this idea some more and plan on showing you the results when I film the next lot of videos when I get home. To finish the background, I wrapped some black seam binding around the card in both directions, then added some thin black and white mats before attaching it to the larger stamped background. I used the Delicate Doily dies for my focal element. I cut two in white, one with just the outside die and the other one using both the decorative insert and the outside die edge. I cut one more black one that I glued behind the decorative one so it showed through all the detail. I offset the one one with it and glued them in the centre of the card. I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with a smaller die in the set and added in the smaller decorative die to emboss the detail over the sentiment. I inked the edges lightly with Black Soot and added some flatback pearls before gluing it in the centre of my card. I tied a messy bow out of black seam binding and added it to the ribbon crisscross section. I made a small white flower using the heat gun method to melt the edges and used it on my bow. I added some black pearl swirls to the upper corner and finished with a double white pierced mat. Finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" in size.
Black and white always a hit! Vicki x

Oh Goodness me. High low. Guilding flakes, unco-operative sliding acitate, 'tricky pearl swirls' ! What are you doing to my fuddled brain cell Mrs W ?!!!
ReplyDeleteNope, dont get it : ( Need to wait for the video instruction, my oh my.
Morning, Monday yet again Sue, how are you Wilsonettes ? Pam, Pam, Pam, pipped at the post this morning chuck !
Mono, lurve it, and love the daintyness of this one, at the same time it stands tall and shouts "look how classie I am" who needs a full english for brekki when you have a W.O.W (wonder of Wilson) like this for breakfast ?
Well its already been said but Im saying it again, and I know for certain I wont be the last to say it but - WE MISSED YOU TOO SUE. So excited to have you back next Sunday, but wish you could have swapped with Julia and had your show yesterday, Im doing a craft sale next Sunday 10 - 2 and Im totally GUTTED that Im going to have to record you : ( will have to try and email the studio anyway (unless I get Mr Lancashire to hold the fort while I nip to the loo and have a sneaky tap on ap) hopefully you will have a later show too so I can watch
properly.
As daft as this may sound to you - dont overdo things on your return, health is SO important.
So, that's me done.
Hope all Wilsonettes had a good weekend, and Im counting down to the next one - that sounds awfully selfish (sorry Sue)
Have a Majestic Monday everyone (see what I did then : ) heehee
Hugs all round.
Lancashire Steph xx
GM Sue - I haven't tried your HL technique yet but I will. Looking forward to your demos next Sunday - hope you have a good and safe journey home. By the way, what has happened to the CE project books? I have 2 volumes but thought the 3rd was due in the summer - but I haven't seen it anywhere. Has it been stopped I am wondering?..or perhaps I am going slightly mad and missed No. 3? Wilsonnettes if you know more please advise.

Hi Sue. This is a beautiful card today !! Very elegant and pretty. The black and white monochrome is fab !! I love the techniques you have used. I have never heard of the high low technique but it looks interesting. I really love the doileys set. I have the dainty doiley stamps and dies and use them a lot. I really love the design layout of your card today. At the moment I am having my first try at stamping on to candles as a stocking filler pressie for my sister. I have some white candles and I am using the justrite Doiley stamps in black ink as her favourite colour scheme at present is black and white. Then I will wrap black/ sparkly silver ribbon around the bottom of them with the candle bases and wrap in clear cellophane finished with a justrite christmas tag. I have never attempted this before so I will let you know how I got on !!
ReplyDeleteI am counting down the days now until you are back on our screens. I can't wait. Happy crafting everyone. Lots of love Tres x x x
