Sneak Peek and Giveaway!

Hi bloggers!  As promised, a sneak peek for tomorrows shows and leave me a comment for a chance to win this one!  I will announce the winner on Monday's blog post.  This card is one of the cards that I demoed at The Papeterie last week in Aberdeen.  So it isn't a complete sneak peek to those of you that attended the demo, but it is one of my favourite cards and techniques.  I am not going to be demoing this one on Sunday, but you can see it demoed on the charity DVD available through The Papeterie if you would like to order one (01224 802337).  Just a quick note about the DVD, though, it was a static camera that was set up for the day, not a professionally filmed DVD.  Please do not order it expecting to have various camera angles and slick editing.  Please order it on the basis of the money is going to a great charity and you can see what we did on the day!
This card show cases a lovely double resist technique.  I almost forget about stamping techniques that I learned ages ago since I use die cuts for most of my card making, but every once in a while, they come together nicely.  I think this card is the perfect example of that.  I started by stamping just the flower head from the stamp in the Floral Thank You set by Justrite.  It can be easily nipped off from the stem as it isn't actually touching in the design (then easily put back in place to stamp it as a whole flower, stem and all!)  I stamped it with a clear perfect medium pad and added four or five across my coconut white card randomly positioned.  I heat embossed them with clear powder.  Next I rubbed a Peacock Feather Distress ink across it so the entire page was coloured, but the flowers  resisted the colour since they were clear embossed.  The next step is very important, you must dry it well.  First I dry the inked area with a heat tool, then I rub my anti static pad over it several times.  This will take the last of the moisture from it.  Using the Secret Garden background stamp by JustRite (and this one you will be seeing ALOT of it used on cards on my blog because it is gorgeous!), I inked it with a Clear Perfect Medium pad and stamped it over the previously stamped and inked piece.  I heat embossed it with clear powder as well.  Using a black Soot Distress ink pad, I rubbed it all over my background until all the exposed areas (non embossed) are well covered with ink.  I will tell you that you will think it looks a right mess at this point, but don't turn back!  Simply use a damp piece of kitchen roll and wipe away all the ink that is on the embossed areas.  You will be left with a beautiful piece that looks just like the two forked strips on my card.  I cut my piece into two strips and matted it with black card after cutting forks in the ends.  I cut one of the pieces so I was able to tape it to the card to look like it was considerably longer than it was.  I used the bracket border to hide the gap.  I cut the border using a decorative edge, the lattice insert then the swirly insert then the lattice insert again, then a cutting edge.  I matted it on black card that I used the cutting edges only on.  I glued it into place across my card.  Using a piece of Zircon green seam binding, I made a rolled flower from it following the tutorial at the top of my blog.  I made a second one a bit smaller and seated them both on some tulle at the side of the border.  I added some of the leaves from the Delicate Aster die set by Heartfelt Creations.  I stamped my sentiment in the lower corner of the card in black Archival ink and matted it with black then a double white pierced layer.  I added pearls on t the border and three small white pearls to the upper corner to complete the card.  Finished dimensions are 7" x 8 1/2" in size.
A quick note, they have cancelled the 5pm show for tomorrow so I will only be on the ToolShed show from 12 to 2pm.  I have a lovely demo first up that I am quite excited to show you!   I have just edited this to tell you that I have a show on the 23rd  live from CHA in Las Vegas.  It is 11am their time, so it should be 7pm UK time.  Then, that's it for me until Sept. LOL   All for now, Sue x

    morning Sue
What a beautiful beautiful gift for today - The flowered pieces will definitely be not only in my 'must do' file but on my table because although you say we will have a beautiful finish like yours I know that I for one will have to try try and try again and still it won't finish looking anywhere near as wonderful as yours. But I will not give up whatever it looks like. The colour scheme is just beautiful and the format is simple but makes such a statement what more can I say only that WHAT ARE C&C PLAYING AT it's forever since you were on and now they cut a show - I know I may not be able to catch one tomorrow because of only laptop etc but still as happy2craft and I'm sure many others are saying it's a long time to September.

  174. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT CARD SUE. What great techniques you have used here and what a wonderful result. I am so looking forward to your show tomorrow and can't believe your 5pm one has been cancelled. Why - we have so many Hunkydory shows and hardly any of yours!! C&C must realise how popular you are judging from the emails you receive whenever you are on. Good that we can watch the Vegas show on 24th though and can't believe we won't see you again until September!!!! So pleased I have ordered by dvd from Papatiere and can't wait for it to come now. 175. Good afternoon Sue,
That a beautiful card. The bookmarks coming down in the duck egg, black and white/ivory reminds me of very expensive wall paper. The colours look beautiful together and with the tinge of black behind as a matte is just nice and not too overpowering. Why oh why are we being denied the pleasure of your company on television. The withdrawal symptoms are very hard to control.
Hope your having a lovely day,
    love and crafty hugs

What a fantastic technique this is. I to thought this was paper from your stash. I'd really like to have a sneaky peek at your stash. Great that is was just stamps and embossing medium. The peacock feathers looks a fantastic colour. Must add stamps and inks to my wish list. What a shame that they have cancelled one of your shows, they did this to Julia as well when you were away in California. Do we really have to wait until September to see you again. Have a lovely weekend.
