Good morning everyone! It seems that I got a bit ahead of myself and was thinking that yesterday was Sunday. I knew that taking a trip midweek would mess up my sense of time (or rather, lack thereof!) If you are checking in to see if your name was drawn for the Comment Game, just scroll down to yesterday's post to check. I promise to get back on schedule for next week (just chalk it up to old age! That's my story and I sticking with it! LOL) Another one of those neutral coloured Christmas cards for today's post. I had a bit of fun with this one as I decided that the paved pearl technique need not only be used as a border. How about as an ornament decoration? I embossed a piece of taupe card with the Holiday Magic Embossibility folder. I used the Heirloom Ornament 2010 and cut an aperture in the centre of my background. I used the same ornament plus the next size up to cut an ornament frame. While still in the die, I inked it with clear perfect Medium using a piece of cut 'n dry foam. I clear embossed it to give it a shiny textured look. I mounted it on foam pieces above the aperture in the background. I matted this piece with milk card so it showed behind the bauble. Then I matted the entire piece with a thin mat of black to define it. I picked some patterned paper (Teresa Collins design) and gave the whole piece a wider mat. Then matted the entire piece in black and pierced the inner mat layer. I stamped my sentiment then cut the end into a fork and matted it with a matching black forked mat. I tucked the edge of the sentiment under the tip of my ornament (just something a bit different). I added a double bow tied from silky crush ribbon and a fancy button from my stash. The last step was the pearl dots. Those were done with the Cosmic Shimmer pearl PVA glue. I randomly added different sized glue dots filling in the open space from the ornament. I set it aside to dry overnight. Whether you like it or it's not to your taste, you may just want to have a go at something similar and that is what I love about this card. Hopefully it will be fun for you too All for now, Sue x
Good morning Sue

Simply stunning Sue, and it´ll look sooo great for soo many occasions, and is soo easy to make without too much fuss for any of us. Gorgeous work again.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue. Another beautiful card today and I find those different sized pearls adorable. And they all look round (shape I mean) -- perfectionism! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs from Finland, Eemeli
A new favourite .
ReplyDeleteIt's a beauty - And the pearls used to decorate an image are super. Good job you are thinking of all those things and showing us.
ReplyDeleteI would rather use blue or red instead of black (black isn't really my cup of tea), but otherwise I think your card is gorgeous. Hugs! xx
ReplyDeleteA beautiful card Sue and the paved technique works so well within the ornament die - must try this one. I love the colour scheme but if not to everyones taste can so easily be adapted to more traditional colours.

Morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteLovely card another one for me to try. I have these dies and have been practising using the pearl glue for faux pearls, I'm not bad now, so will give it a go.
Big hugs
Max xx
GM Sue - wowey! another must try - need to improve my faux pearl technique though esecially round the edges of a card when they all need to be the same size - this one should be easier as its random placement and sizes.

Lovely card again Sue, I don't know how you keep coming up with ideas and not repeating anything. Linda xxx
ReplyDeletemorning Sue
ReplyDeleteI have used this die for the first time this year and I love it - I find it so useful - I have to admit although I have used the faux pearl effect around the margins on cards I would never have thought of filling in the middle of this bauble (silly isn't it)you use it for one thing and don't carry through to other areas but I will now.
Janet x
Good Sunday Morning Sue,

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful card to add to my collection to try. I think it is very sophisticated and whilst I do like the monochromatic look I think I would have to use "warmer" colours. Love the bauble and the texture on the frame is lovely - never thought of using cut & dry to apply the perfect medium - seems to give a super texture. Will give it a go.
Stunning card again Sue. It looks really classy - must have a go at doing this design! Pat x

Hi Sue, do like the card but I would have liked to see a little touch of red to lighten the mood a bit.
ReplyDeleteMargaret O xxx
I love the colours - so elegant and sophisticated! I like the kind of juxtaposition between the beautiful bow with swirly paper and the funky pva dots - it works and I wouldn't have thought it would. I bow to your superior genius! )
ReplyDeleteRebekah
Hi Sue. Another great card today!! I love the bauble die. I think what makes this card is not just the paved effect bauble in the centre but its raised black frame around the edge to. I think it really finishes the card off and makes it look so professional !! The background paper and the embossed background both look fab too. As always I love your bows !! The colours are nice but personally I prefer the traditional christmas colours. Hope to see you on tv soon love Tres x x x
ReplyDeleteLove it Sue, very elegant as usual. I do like all the layers you use - what a pity our postal service now charges for 'thickness' instead of weight as it used to - means that if a card has to be mailed I tend to try to keep it thin! Really spoils the fun :(
ReplyDeleteMorning sue this is my type of card i live it when you do the pearls. But when
ReplyDeleteIve tried to do this they seam to spread out but when i get my grand calibur
Back from spellbinders as they are repairing it i will be having ago at this one.

Hello Sue,
ReplyDeleteReally liked the embossing folder and your layout. Would like to see some more traditional color on it. So I'll just have to make my own and add that color to your excellent design.
Going to make this card in Blue for my sons fiancées parents who are American!

lovely lovely card, you always do of course.
ReplyDeleteLovely card. Must try the glue dots again. Wasn't that successful first time around, but I've since seen you demo your technique so fingers crossed another time I'll be able to master it. Claire xxx

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be brave and have a go at doing
the random pearl dots of different sizes.
The card is adorable
Hoping to see you demoing on C/C soon
Hugs Sue XXX
The Christmas cards you have done using the heirloom ornaments have been my favourite - this one is no exception. I absolutely love the ones you do in monochrome - or like this, when you've used one more colour. These are so classy - I need to get this heirloom set, I have one of the others which this will work with, but I do like this one.
ReplyDeleteOh, I wish I had an endless pot of money to buy some new spellbinders. I love watching the shows - but right now, buying is not an option.

hi sue love your card, i don't do christmas cards, as i find some people do not know how much work has gone into the card. crafty hugs julie x
ReplyDeleteHello Sue,
ReplyDeleteYour fave faux pearl technique always makes me go...WOW! This is my Achilles heel...I really love to get it right but it seems that the technique doesn't like me! This is one classy card...all I can think of is to feel the faux pearls. This is beautiful Sue, thank you. Until next time...I'm catching up on all the cards as I love leaving comment for you...as if I'm talking to you face to face in person. Thanks again...I'm on to your next card...lots of love, Aggie xxx
