Hi bloggers! This is my favourite Christmas card of the past shows (well maybe one of my favourites, LOL) I just love the mixture of white and kraft and vellum and gold. It's just so eclectic, right up my street. It's not traditional really, but it gives me the sense of Christmas in a modern way. I started by stamping the large sentiment with a clear perfect medium and embossing it in gold. Next I embossed the coconut white card with the new Holiday Magic embossibility. (Don't forget to do your stamping before you emboss) This folder certainly gets my choice for favourite Christmas themed embossing folder though, just love those swirls! I matted that piece on soft gold card. I came across a small piece of patterned kraft card in my stash (I think it may have come from the Tim Holtz kraft pad, but I am not certain on this). I cut it in the shape of a tag and punched a hole in the top for my ribbon. I used the edge of my scissors to distress it then I inked it with walnut stain distress ink. Distress inks stay wet for quite some time so I just poured some gold embossing powder over the edges. I used my finger to take away the distinct line of the embossing powder. I wanted a rather random soft gold edge to it. Heat the powder until it melts and you will see the gold with the walnut stain showing through too. I cut the reindeer from the Frosty Forms set in gold card. Do not emboss it however. Cut a second one in the same gold card and do not emboss it either. Since you haven't embossed it, you can turn one of the reindeers over so they are facing each other and they both look fine that way. I did add a very small red rhinestone to each of their noses, I couldn't resist this time! LOL Glue them to your tag so they are facing each other but slightly offset. Cut your poinsettias out of plain vellum. I used a couple of each of the medium dies in the set to make each flower. Dip the edges of the petals in your clear perfect medium to get them inky and sprinkle with gold embossing powder. Use your finger to remove it slightly to remove some of the powder to give it a distressed look. Assemble your flowers using Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue and put a flat back pearl in the centre of each of them. I had a piece of hessian that I unravelled to give me the jute string for the bow behind the flowers. You can see the close ups below.
I tied a few pieces of white American seam binding through the hole in the tag and spritzed it with water so I could scrunch it for a shabby chic look. I pierced the edges to finish it off as I usually do. What do you say, does this one get your vote for my (personal)Christmas card design for this year or do you like others better? All for now, Sue x
I love this card, it is right up my street too. The little reindeer die is one of my favourites from the Christmas dies - no cpmplaints about this card Sue, just gorgeous.

Roll on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteGosh i'm early this morning lol!. I just love this card even when I saw it on cc and I love making flowers with vellum I sometimes spray them with water once they have been put together and they start to crinkle up at that time I put my heat gun on them and they dry solid and can't be flattened.
Thank you

Michelle(happy2craft)
That's an impossible ask - to pick a favourite! They are all so beautiful. I laughed out loud when I saw this card on the show, just LOVE the red noses :-) I think one of the reindeer is a little snooty at what the other is saying to him and has put his nose in the air. Anyway, fabulous card Sue as always. Maddy x
ReplyDeleteOh I just love the die with the reindder. This card is really an inspiration for me because I´m happy to have the die in my hand, bought at AllyPally last weekend. Thanks for your demos . It was so nice to meet you.

ReplyDeletemorning Sue
ReplyDeleteI loved this one when I saw it on C&C - I just love the deer and their red noses. Although this gets a vote I think 'wondrous Christmas - Sept 17th - is the best. (only my opinion).

Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI thought I was reasonably early today but already 85 posts before me...Well, yes, this is my favourite card....for today!!! I loved this card when you had it on your show the reindeer are so cute, you can't help but smile. Tomorrow though it might be another card, you give us all so much inspiration.
love from Jackie D
One of my favourites too, although they are like children - you are not allowed to have favourites! So looking forward to seeing you on Sunday on C&C. Phil was fine but you are always Great!! xx
ReplyDeleteSue lovely card must try
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, I just love this little reindeer. Will you be posting the faux etched glass reindeer card, I thought it was beautiful, but cannot remember quite what you did. I did turn on C & C yesterday but gave up watching. Some of the dies were lovely but there was no inspiration and they were not shown off to their best. I know Phil is a very good crafter, but perhaps not for Spellbinders.
ReplyDeleteLove Rosemarie xx
Fabulous card Sue, but how can you expect us to choose ONE design as a favourite from all the stunning choices you have shown us? Thanks for sharing with us. Pat x
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful card love the flowers
ReplyDeleteHi Sue,

Morning Sue, fab card, love to see some different styles. Great to see you turning the reindeer over as im big into doing this to get more use from my die cuts.
ReplyDeleteThe trouble with a spellbinders channel is that you wouldn't have time to make samples!

Definitely gets my vote Sue, I just love it. Great idea using vellum for the poinsettia must give that a try. Managed to see a little of the Spellbinder shows yesterday but not the same without you. Didn't buy waiting to see your shows on Sunday. Enjoy your Thursday, love Christine H xx

ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteWhilst I like this card, it is not my favourite. Can't make up my mind between Poinsettia Bauble, Wondrous Christmas, Happy Holidays or Shaun's Favourite! Having said that, you just give us so much inspiration!!Love the poinsettia done in vellum & I liked the tip from someone about spritzing & drying the vellum - must give that a go too.
Wonderful card. I keep having a favourite and then you come up with another idea. So this is my favourite until your next post.lol
ReplyDeleteSpellbinder shows arn't the same without you or Julia!

Sue this is superb it is definately a favourite
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue
ReplyDeleteI am a bit later posting because been trying to make a card for my son's engagement ( on the 3rd one can't decide on a theme) lol. This demo was the one that made me decide to purchase the frosty forms set of dies. Every day I think this card is my favourite then you post another 'favourite' so I would not be able to decide which one. I only watched the launch show and found it very uninspiring so never watched any more. C&C made a massive mistake not having you on the shows can't wait for Sunday.
Hugs x
Really love this card Sue. Still haven't watched the shows yet but looking forward to seeing them as soon as I can find the time. Thanks for your inspiration. x

I will say though that I've spent a considerable sum on Spellbinders products recently on the strength of your inspiring creations.

ReplyDeleteHi Sue. This card is scrumptious. No complaints. Colour, composition first class. Thank you.3362Jan.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, what more can I say!!
ReplyDeleteHave loved all your Christmas cards Sue and today's doesn't disappoint one bit. Turned on to I.W. both days and what a disappointment to find that you wasn't demonstrating. Sorry Phil but you didn't make the dies sparkle, they actually sold themselves, for there to be a sell out they needed you there Sue to demonstrate the versatility of the dies.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, This was my favourite card of all and still is. I love the vellum flowers and I used a gold dabber on the ends of my red card flowers. It is a must for me to do some vellum ones and emboss them. Thanks for this stunning card. Hugs, Carol S.xx
ReplyDeleteP.S. Missed you on the shows, so deleted all my recordings of them. Phil is OK but cannot hold my attention as you do.

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this elegant card so stunning.
Where do I get the double sided matt gold paper/card.
Sue xx
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI really love this one, especially the colours. Gorgeous.
Managed to keep all my pennies safe for Sunday yesterday, no problem. It would have been a different story if you and Julia had been doing the shows though!

I do like this card but think the ribbon on the tag spoils it as it looks too crumpled.

This is a stunner, it's one of my favourites. I really like the way you have used the gold embossing powder on both the tag and the poinsettias.

This is one of my favourite cards you've ever done Sue! I just love it & will be making this myself (with my own twist of course!). Loved your demo on C&C on your first show last week. Looks really fun, modern & festive. Thank you again! Claire xxx
