Happy Sunday! More winners today with the comment game too so that is a nice way to start the day off I think! First the card though, I set out to make a masculine card, hence the colours, but somewhere along the way, it changed (the addition of the butterfly, I think!) My goal was to show off the Large Ribbon Banners, (which at least I did), as you don't really get a sense of the size of these until you see them on a card. I wasn't really sure where I was heading after that but I began by cutting a frame from two of the smaller dies in the Grand Decorative Ovals in black card. I cut a basic Lattice extendable background and trimmed it to fit in my frame. I stamped my sentiment and cut it out using one of the Large Ribbon Banners in milk coloured card. I inked it lightly with Antique Linen distress ink. I cut another one out of camel coloured card to use as an accent shadow. I split in down the middle length ways and added to the top and bottom of my banner. I just like the way it framed it and made it a bit bolder too. I cut a matching butterfly from the Les Papillons set out of the camel coloured card. The butterfly needed a bit of bling so I cut the solid version out of black glitter card to put underneath it. When I add butterflies to cards, I only ever attach them at the centre body area and leave the wings free for some movement (it makes you want to play with the wings a bit too, which is fun). Butterflies also really lend themselves to pearlie swirlies as trails behind them, I just can't help myself I always add it! I liked the way it looked against the Lattice cut out too. I added some black pearls to the body of the butterfly and a few different sized ones in the corners. Pierced the edges to finish it off as usual. Sometimes our cards just take on a mind of their own, don't they?

ReplyDeleteHi Sue - another clever idea for us to copy! Love the shadow effect and I will be using this trick and the butterfly dies are always so pretty whatever the colour. I have got the expandable botanical swirls die but not used this yet. I really love the lattice effect though as it can be used so easily on men's cards that I think I will have to treat myself, again! Thank you for all your amazing ideas. Yvonne xx

ReplyDeleteMorning Sue, Great card and feeds my addiction - butterflies. I always think, if a card looks as if it has something missing, just add a butterfly. I wonder why it makes a card masculine, as men do also like butterflies. I think it is our perception of men. Hugs, Carol S.xx
ReplyDeleteHi Sue,
ReplyDeleteYet another lovely card. I really will have to try and save some pennies for the butterfly dies as they always look so lovely. Congrats to all the winners - who knows maybe one day I'll be lucky too.
