.Happy Easter! I didn't have any Easter cards so I hope you don't mind if we stay with our sewing theme for today too! This card was a lot of fun using the new Bakers twine and some kraft card from my craft stash. I had some kraft ticking background paper which I thought suited the sewing theme so nicely. I did do a bit of stamping on the background first using some of Sam Poole's Vintage Sewing stamps, but it doesn't show up very well but it does add a bit to the vintage feel of the card. I decided that it needed some texture so I used an embossibility folder on the top half of it. Using Mom's sewing machine, I added a zigzag stitch around the top half also. I did a bit of edge distressing with my scissors to bring out the vintage feel too. I happened to have some paper ruler borders in my stash so I added one of those across the middle of the card. On the lower half of the card, I stamped my sentiment. I stamped my scissors on a small piece of kraft paper and cut them out. I glued them on to my card but left the end of the scissors unattached to my base card. Next I cut four of the thread spools, inked them antique linen and wrapped them with Bakers Twine. I chose four of the colours from the new vintage selection . I wrapped the twine around the spools until it covered them sufficiently. The last one, I left about seven or eight inches hanging from the end. I mounted all the spools across the top of my card and used the leftover piece of the twine to swirl down to where my scissors were mounted on the card. I tucked the end through the open scissor end and glued it into place. I tacked the twine in several spots with a drop of Cosmic Shimmer clear glue. The card was matted and layered with black card and finished with black Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue dots around the edge.

ReplyDeleteHi Sue,
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter. Another brilliant card. I love the backing paper, it reminds me of the old material they used to have on the pillow cover. That felt like a blast from the past. The older members of your blog will now what I'm talking about, but the younger ones may never have seen the pillow covers like these. Any way Happy Easter to all, and Happy Crafting to everyone.

ReplyDeleteI really love this card Sue - just had to buy the sewing stamp sets when I saw it on tv. Haven't got the dies (yet!) but have a Tim Holtz set with a bobbin which would do nicely.
I recognized the ticking too - childhood memories of pillows, bolsters and feather mattresses, ok until a sharp quill would poke through to prick tender flesh!

ReplyDeleteThis is super, bang on trend, perfectly put together and I thought at first glance the scissors were a metal embellishment. Lol. Thanks hun x

ReplyDeleteHi Sue what a great card dont know how you come up with all these designs amazing. Happy easter to everyone and congratulations to the winners, hugs Fiona P xxxx
ReplyDeleteA very different card for you Sue but nevertheless I like it lots.
ReplyDeleteToni xx
Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteTodays card is unusual and again a nice change from the norm, though I am always happy (ecstatic infact) with the norm.
The bobbin diecuts are fab and look very effective. If you looked into my draw of twine and threads you would see bobbins of bakers twine that look exactly the same. However, I cut my bobbins by hand from pearlescent gold card as I didn't have a die.
I hope you have been having a good weekend and taking some time out to relax. Enjoy the bank holiday monday too.
Regards Linda x
Like the way that you threaded the twine through the scissors. The ticking makes a perfect background for this.
ReplyDeleteR/
Hi Sue, this takes me back too, I do remember the ticking style pillows we used to have as a child, showing my age now, Lol! I think, I too need these dies, although I got the stamps, I didn't purchase the dies, but now thinking they're a must have as your card would be so appropriate for some of my sewing class friends. Just beautiful. Take care Alison :)
ReplyDeletemorning, nice idea Zerena
