Hi crafters! Did you know that you can add gilding flakes to a card, then emboss it and ink over it and then heat emboss it to give your background a really cool texture? The video shows you how easy it is to do!

I always shied away from embossing flaked background card in case I cracked it but you told me otherwise and have me the confidence to have a go and it looked gorgeous, the lighter the flakes the more prominent the design shows it looks so pretty. Morning Sue, I forget that I am only dealing with a piece of card, at times and don't experiment with techniques to see 'what happens if!'. You have just proved to me that it can be a very rewarding experience. I just love your background and will definitely be getting out the gilding flakes later after I've watched the video.

Wow this was a great tutorial to watch Sue and was amazed what a difference this technique made. I have lots of gilding flakes but forget to use them nowdays. I do love them and have no idea why they don't get used more. Maybe because they are on one of the higher shelves so out of sight etc.

ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea you came up with to seal the wet Distress Oxide you used over the gilding flakes. You are so inventive with techniques. As you were demonstrating the clear embossing powder to use as a sealer, it brought to my mind a valentine card making time when my stamped image would not dry even though I used my heat gun on it. I abandoned this stamped layer and moved on keeping the wet stamped images in hopes they would dry on their own so I could use them the next year. Well, four months later, those wet images were still wet. I chose to throw out all those lovely pieces of cut to size red cardstock. What a waste of time and material. I did enjoy your video, and I as usual, learned something from you. Thank you Sue for my cardmaking lessons.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, I love the vintage look to this background. I have embossed cardstock that has been covered with gilding flakes but I certainly would never have thought of then inking and heat embossing it. I don't have distress oxides but will try my other ink pads to see if it will work with any of them. Thanks for the explanatory video.
