With Sympathy

Good Sunday morning all!  While today's card has been finished as a sympathy card, it is definitely one of those designs that would be suited to other sentiments too.  I decided to share it though as so many people email me about the difficulty of making sympathy cards.  My belief is to keep them simple and most styles will work and feel appropriate.  I started the card by stamping the Layered carnation stamp all over a piece of Blue Dusk card to add some pattern to the background.  Next I cut the Avery die in white and added a sky blue backing to it.  I cut the outer decorative die as a large backing piece for it and then cut the inner die as a base for my sentiment.  I cut the With Sympathy in black (wish I had used it as a shadow for a blue sentiment though).  I cut a single Layered Carnation stamp with the matching Layered carnation die and inked the edges of it with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide ink and added two leaves as accents.  I made a multi layered white frame using the Double Stitched Squares and framed it.  The card was completed with Blue dusk, black and white mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are 8" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  11. Hi Sue
The kind of card we never enjoy having to make but this would definitely lend itself to any occasion. The background is beautiful and the touch of colour added to the stamped Layered Carnation is such a lovely touch. Avery is on my wish/want list and makes the perfect centrepiece on any card - lovely card x

Morning Sue, like many before me, I do like the subtle background and the carnation is so sweet. Can see this in red and gold for a simple Christmas card. Hugs xx Pauline

  17. A beautiful card for the occasion that no one wants to be making a card for. I love the muted colours you have used, but a different sentiment would make a great mans card and change the colours it (like most of yours) can be used for any occasion. Well done with this one Sue .

Your stamped Layered Carnation stamp made a very effective background. I need to do more of this "make my own pattered paper" technique. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your HSN visit. I'll be watching and buying.
