Fill You Life With Adventures

Good Sunday morning all!  Here's one for the grunge lovers among us.  I know it won't be to everyone's liking, but it was great fun to make!  I started with a piece of slate grey card.  I used the Basketweave mask over it and applied our Rust Patina kit through the mask to give the background a steampunked look.  Next I stamped the Eliza STDF called Steampunk Butterfly and cut it out with the matching die.  I used Distress markers to colour it in.  I stamped just the butterfly again and cut it out by hand and added it to the original stamped image.  I stamped the sentiment in black above it.  I cut the dragonfly from the Industrial Chic Butterfly and Dragonfly set and inked it with some walnut stain distress oxide. I used the Rust kit and applied them to some MDF cogs and wheels to distress them.  I glued them to the card in clusters.  The card was completed with white and slate grey card.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  9" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Hi Sue
It may be grungey and different to your usual style but it’s fab!
    Love that rusty look.
Been away for a while due to being poorly and then a week in the Isle of Wight. Been checking out all the posts I have missed due to being absent from the blog. Obviously the cards are all winners but so was I in the die release draw. Congratulations to all the other winners. I feel incredibly lucky, as I am sure everyone else who struck gold does! Thank you Sue x
    Happy Sunday everyone

  2. Good Morning Sue. I know the grunge isn't for every one... and I am only just getting there with it .... but this is lovely. I have some of the industrial steam punk dies you released a year or so ago and they are my go to one's for the men. I think I may be on the spend again after seeing you beautiful sample today. Thankyou Sue.
Yvonne hope you are feeling better... and enjoyed your holiday.
Sending hugs and best wishes to everyone. Kind regards Ann Toppcards Leeds

Such a different style of card this morning and first look you would never guess it ones of your cards. I have the Rust Patina kit and would of never thought to use it through a stencil. Thank you for sharing.

  9. Hello Sue,

A different look for you but it is lovely in that distress, grunge way. I made it my mission to use everyone one of your STDF from the prior release in a card and I have been successful except for this stamp. No matter how I stamp it or what I use - ink, embossing powder, the image does not show clearly as it does in your card. After numerous attempts I put it aside but maybe I will try one more time after seeing your posting today.

    Have a great Sunday.

  11. Good morning Sue
A quick comment before leaving for work. This style of card never seems to go out of fashion, I tend to keep my ‘grunge’ for projects rather than cards but I love the one you’ve done today. It was you and Sam that got me into grunge I miss seeing her demos, give her my love when you see her.

  25. It’s good to see this sort of thing, you can take ideas from it for men’s cards. I personally like it, but I know it’s not to everyone’s taste.

  28. Hello Sue
It is good to see you make cards that are different as it gives us all new ideas.
Lots of detail in this card and I like it. It is full of detail and it is interesting and I can see it made up with a different colour scheme.
    Enjoy your Sunday!

  29. Hi Sue,
I think it's fabulous, and if I'd seen your post yesterday, I would have "borrowed" some aspects of this. I'm making a card for my nephew and got a shock when I worked out how old he was - 28!! - so definitely no more a young teen!
My card will be featuring the celtic dies, and let's see what I manage to do...........
    Hugs, Rose

  31. Morning Sue, Ive become a keen fan of 'your grungy style' as the male members in my family/friendship group delight in receiving one.
We all get stuck in a rut at times, and you always manage to give us a push toget us out. Thank you. Great card, by the way. Yippee, no power cuts as yet.
Have a great day, everyone. Hugs xx Pauline in S.A.

  32. Hi Sue. Love some of the techniques you have used on this card. I don't know how it looks in real life, but for me the background in the glitter paste overpowers the interesting techniques on top of it. I would, perhaps, have used lighter colour inks instead.

I am always amazed how easily you can switch styles. Yvonne glad you are back with us. There are so many missing names from the blog I miss hearing from them

  34. You are so talented Sue, from beautiful and dainty to real grungy, you take it in your stride. No really to my taste, but then it is nice to play around and create different effects, we even surprise ourselves sometimes....All the elements look great and a lovely card to finish...thank you for sharing Sue...luv Ursula xx

  35. Well Sue, I love steampunk and grunge and know how much fun you have making them. I love the elements but I think the background is too busy with all the elements on. Lots wont agree and that's ok its nice to have different opinions, but I love that you change styles constantly. Have a great day. Hugs WINTERWARM.xxx

Wow - I think you have discovered a new type of card Sue, Classy Grunge. Not a grunge fan really but the colours and design of this card are fabulous, I just wish I could put something like this together.

  44. Hi Sue, even those of us that don't care for grunge can admire the design and techniques in this card. It is a little dark for me but I love the dragonfly and I am sure Eliza's STDF would look lovely in lighter colours on a non-grunge card.

  45. Although I probably wouldn't make this card, I do rather like it. You can pull it off and it looks good. I like the stencil on the gray card stock. I am trying to use my stencils more and I think I even have this one. I have not seen the stamp either so something new this morning and I like the stamp so the card does appeal and I can seeing where you had fun making it. You really never make a bad card.
    Have a great Sunday!
