Hello crafters! It's a striking black and white card for today. I started by embossing a piece of coconut white card with the
Heart Strings Embossing folder for texture. Next I cut a smaller piece of white card and used the decorative die from the
Heather die set to cut the design into the card. I backed it with white and added a thin black mat. Using the
Summer Rose die set, I inked the die with
Clear Perfect Medium and letterpressed it as I cut it out of black card (you can see the lovely debossed detail in the close up pics). I embossed it with
clear embossing powder to get a shine to it. I did this twice then cut the frames apart and used the same corner from each to create a larger frame. I added them together to the card with mounting foam. I cut the sentiment from the
Summer Rose Frame die set in black card and glued it into the centre of the frame. White and black mats were used to complete the card. The finished dimensions are 8"x 8 3/4" in size. All for now, Sue x

ReplyDeleteI love this card but I think it's not for everyone with the black frame.

Hello Sue, I really like this card, the monochrome colourway is always very striking and the embossing on the border die cut really lifts it. Have a good day everyone. Bx
ReplyDeleteHello Sue,
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular card. I can only imagine what it looks like it person, it must be striking with the Summer Rose heat embossed. It is really stunning.

Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, well todays card is certainly different, and I never would have thought of this colour scheme for the rose frame but I think it grows on you, it looks really good.

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteAn interesting technique heat embossing the letterpressed die cut. I'm not sure about the black roses, maybe a different colourway.
Enjoy Ally Pally.

Good morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteA beautiful monochrome card today which I love but know it's not everyone's. Yvonne xx
Hello Sue
ReplyDeleteWell this is certainly different you do like to mix things up but I do like it. Enjoy Ally Pally everyone.
A very striking card I’m a little unsure of the black for the roses I think it’s one of those cards you need to see in the flesh - will it be at Ally Pally..
ReplyDeleteGreat technique I had never thought to letter press with a die
ReplyDeleteWasn't too sure looking at the first picture, but as
I saw the close ups, it did grow on me! As someone
else said, perhaps in a different colour??
Doreen x
Hi Sue - I do love black and white cards and this one is very striking. The embossing is very effective nnd would look good in any colour. Looking forward to seeing all your samples tomorrow! Sending best wishes

Hello Sue,
ReplyDeleteA stunning design, not sure the pics do it justice though, apart from one where the letterpressed glaze really shines and highlights the rose, so I can imagine this card would look so much better in the hand than it does on screen...but I must admit I'd have been tempted to add a little bit of bling behind Heather...lol
Donita - today's version of the Summer Rose frame illustrates Sue's letterpressing with dies better than Wednesday's card doesn't it...
Izzy
I like the design of this card although like some above, I am not sure about the black frame.
ReplyDeleteSee you at the Ally Pally!
Teresa
Love the card sue very different very stricking would love to see it demoed
ReplyDeleteThank you love always June Horrocks xxxx
Good Morning Sue. I love the monochrome scheme...and... I know its not for everyone..... but I like it... it always looks clean and tidy to me. Reminder for me to stock up on black card....and I love the rose die. I think this might be my next purchase. Sending best wishes to everyone. Kind regards Ann Toppcards Leeds
ReplyDeleteLove monochrome look xx

ReplyDeleteHi Sue
Amazing I am very fond of black and white cards, the letter pressing works a treat.

Heather R Oxfordshire
A real statement piece. The monochrome is so striking & I love monochrome cards. They real do stand out. Thank you Sue for the inspiration. Enjoy yourself at Ally Pally. Will be along on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is what you meant by letterpressing. Thanks Izzy!
ReplyDeleteMaybe black roses would work for a fake-dreadful birthday, or for a Halloween Valentine. I agree that black and white carries a lot of class, but I'm not sure what kind of message is conveyed by black roses.
The only consolation for missing Ally Pally, I imagine, is not having sore legs and feet. Have fun, everyone who's going!
Best to all,
Donita
Hi Sue, a lovely card but the black rose frame not for me. I love your embossed heart background and the dies you have used.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, lovely card. love Jean Z xxxx
ReplyDeleteHi Sue,
ReplyDeleteThis would be a lovely card if it the frame was not black.
I would make the card but would use a different colour
for the frame.
Regards,
Evis M.
Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteNot struck on this card. As others have said the black frame is all wrong, maybe for a bereament card, but as a general the frame needs to be a different colour
Matgaret x
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white theme, it is so elegant.
Wishing everyone lots of fun and inspiration at Ally Pally, I shall be there in spirit.
Hugs, Rose
Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteA very striking card.
Love Helen xxx
Hi Sue, I think you have totally split the Wilsonettes today:-) I am in the 'not very keen' camp although I do like the letterpressed and embossed roses I think it would be more suited to one corner on a sympathy card. Just as well we all have different tastes and styles or the world would be full of identical cards lol I hope you enjoy Ally Pally and have a great time.
ReplyDeleteFrances
Great card Sue I’m sitting here with a broken shoulder, so cannot Craft.thanks for the inspiration for when I’m better.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue Really striking card I love the rose frame Hope you all have a great time at Ally Pally

Hi Sue. Love the drama of this card. It is probably a bit strange but the white die cut in the centre reminds me a bit of a spider's web!
ReplyDeleteLisbeth
I love black and white cards. X
ReplyDeleteVery striking, can't go wrong with black and white ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteLovely card, I'm afraid that the letterpress technique is one that I just can't master. Have a great time at Ally Pally
Love and hugs to everyone
Pat
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but this one is not for me - it's the black frame that doesn't work for me at all. I know I'm in the minority though!
Sending love and hugs to all, Alison xxxx
Hi Sue. This is a beautiful card but like others, I'm not sure when I'd send black Roses other than for a sympathy card.
ReplyDeleteStill thank you for sharing this letterpress technique. Enjoy your weekend xx
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteIt is not everyone's choice, black and white, but I think your card is very nice. It would be good for a Sympathy card, or my neighbour loves black, so she would like it very much.
Have a lovely time at Ally Pally (I won't be there this year).
Have a good weekend.
Love n hugs to everyone
Dorothy of Baldock
Hi Sue and everyone.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the black roses but otherwise a nice card Sue.
Loved the card yesterday and I have some of the boat cut outs
from Julia last work shop. hope to see you Sunday x
Where are you all ladies, so many missing. Hope you come back
Pam, Elaine, Rosemary, Laine and many more. I miss hearing from
you and what happening in your life. Hope you all right ?
Hugs to all wilsonettes, hope to meet some of you at Ally Pally
Sunday.

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteI love your black and white card today. However, I am not sure who I could send a card in these colours to unless I really know they like black and white. Love the design of the card, though and would love to see it in other colours.
Lesley S x
I like the design of this card but the black is definitely not for me (no surprise there). I can see it working well with other colours.
ReplyDeleteTo everyone going to Ally Pally, I hope you have a wonderful time.
Take care everyone.
Very striking card Sue!
ReplyDeleteThis would make an excellent sympathy card Sue and a bit different from the norm. Thanks for sharing, hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteA very unusual card Today Sue, As usual I'm a day late with my comment because I get your posts a day late. I think you will be at Ally Pally today and I see that lots of your blog family will be there too. Wish I could be there but that's not possible.
ReplyDeleteI have a Birthday today and some of my family members have been wise enough to give me gift certificates and transport to Inspirations in Preston so I will be taking my wish list with me and will go straight to The Sue Wilson aisles.
Hope everyone enjoys Ally Pally.
Hugs to all.
Marie P.
I am wondering if you switched the white and black...white roses. I am a big fan of white and black but I do prefer the other colored samples of the rose frame to this one. The Heather die looks great with it so a good tip for me in my card making ventures.
ReplyDeleteMarie P. Happy Birthday! Sounds like your family knows how to spoil a gal. Have fun.
Ally Pally...sigh.
