Fabulous Day

Hello crafters!  Today's card showcases the Michelle die set and the Chantilly Lace edger.  I started by cutting the decorative die from the Michelle die into a piece of Blue Dusk card.   Next I cut two of the Chantilly Lace Edger thin borders into the top and bottom of the card.  I extended both of them so they went the length of the card.  I backed the card in white so it showed through all the detail in the Michelle die and the edger dies.  Next I cut two of the larger die from the Chantilly Lace edger set.  I used two pieces of white card together to cut them so that the top one cut all the way through and the bottom one really only cuts through the outline.  So I teased the outline die out (sometimes you have to use your scissors in spots) and then glued it on to the edger as a backing.  I did both of them, then glued them on to the left and right sides of the card.  I stamped a sentiment and cut it out with the centre die from the Michelle die set and mounted it with foam in the middle of the card.  I made a tiny flower with the centres from the Passion Flower die set and glued it into the centre of a satin ribbon bow.  I mounted the bow to the corner of the Michelle die.  I added flatback white pearls to the edges and middle die as accents.  White and Blue Dusk mats and layers were used to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/4" x  7 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Good morning Sue. I just love how all your dies are made for each other. It doesn't matter what border or edger dies you choose to go with the frames and tags, they all work perfectly together. The Finishing Touch speaks for itself - a wonderful finishing touch to any card. You certainly are an amazing designer of dies and this gorgeous sample is the icing on the cake, how can anyone not love looking at this fantastic Friday gift.

  40. Oh my! I don't have either of these dies but thanks for showing us what a sweet flower can be made from the teensy dies in the Passion Flower set. I thought those were for pistil and stamen, but aren't they nice stacked into their own flower!

I had a little trouble understanding why, if you cut Chantilly in two thicknesses of paper, you would have to pry them apart since you're going to use both thicknesses. Took me a minute, but duh, it's because you have to remove the fallout from the layer that cut all the way through, so the layer that just got dented, in effect embossed, will kind of puff out from under the outline. Right?

Now I'm wondering if the same technique can be used with the Geminis. Or the striplets. And why not a second color for the layer that's going to puff out?

Also, for yesterday's card, I'm wondering if you could use strips of card colored with glitter kiss instead of strips of sticky paper and actual glitter. Or even strips of distress oxide colors, or of Pixie blends. Seems like any striplet cut three or four times into the same sheet of card could use the strip method for backing each one with a different color. For that matter, why not "emboss" the backing colors, however they were colored, using the double-thickness method we learned in today's card. It would mean cutting the striplet again three or four more times, separately, through two thicknesses of paper. If the double thickness was white for the outline and color for the part that puffs through, you would just set the white outlines aside for another project and fit each of the colors behind one of the striplets you cut into the front of your card.

Think that would work? If our Saturday gathering gets canceled by snow, I'll play with that idea.

    Best to all,
    Donita

  43. Hi Sue

Beautiful card. Love everything about it. It took me a while to understand why you had used two thicknesses of card, but I got there in the end! Love the colours and the cute little flower.

Luckily I’m a bit warmer today, not because the weather is any better but because our heating is back on. The condenser pipe was frozen as the boiler is in the garage on an outside wall. Despite being lagged it still froze. I tried from 10 am to defrost the pipes, unfortunately even when thawed the boiler would not ignite. Had to call a plumber out last night. Fingers crossed it’s ok now. X

“Sue Wilson’s Passion Flower Die Set” (From The Finishing Touches Collection 23 Cutting Dies)
Sue, You Started By Cutting The Michelle Die Into A Piece Of Blue Dusk Foundation Card, Then You Cut
Two Of The Chantilly Lace Edger Thin Borders Also Into The Blue Dusk Foundation Card One At The Top
Also The Bottom Of Your Card, You Extended Both Of Them So They Went The Length Of Your Magical Card.
Sue, You Then Backed This Using Coconut White Foundation Card So It Showed Through All The Details Of
The Michelle Die Plus The Edger Dies, (I’d Probably Attach My Coconut White Foundation Card To A Self

    (Just My Opinion)
Sue, Then You Cut Out Two Of The Larger Dies From The Chantilly Lace Edger, When Cutting Out This Particular Die
You Used Two Pieces Of Coconut White Foundation Card, So The Top One Would Cut All The Way Through, The Bottom

The Beautiful Edgers, Plus The Michelle Die To Accent You Added Mounting Foam To The Back Of The Card

  71. Lovely card. I do like this edger. Yep! My no-spending plans seem to be going out of the window as I want this.

Thanks Pat, I am much warmer. LIke Helen above, my condenser waste pipe had frozen but at twelve feet long it took the plumber three quarters of an hour and loads of kettles and saucepans of boiling water to defrost it. Its length meant that the hot condensate never got to the end so froze before it went into the outflow pipe. And it wasn't lagged!!! Mind you I have now found a wonderful engineer to come and service the boiler next month as the original one has moved out of area. Just want this snow to stop!
