Bonsai Stained Glass

Good Sunday morning all!  Today's offering is a traditional stained glass technique card.  I cut the Bonsai Stained Glass die out of black card and sprayed the back with glue and attached a piece of clear acetate.  Working from the back of the acetate, I decided what colours I wanted the picture to be and started with the darkest colours first.  I first filled it the bonsai trunk with Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue and sprinkled dark bronze Polished silk glitter on it, then tapped off the excess.  I repeated this process until all the areas were filled it and set it aside to dry overnight.  The front will be completely white as all you will see is the glue until it dries completely, then the colours of the glitter will emerge.  I added it to a larger piece of white card that I embossed with the Aztec Flower folder.  I tied red seam binding around it at the corners, then added a bow with a black button accent in the middle.  White and black mats were used to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 7" x  8 1/2" in size.

The winner of this week's Comment Game are:

Susan Battensby!!!
Yorkie Girl!!!
Maria Illsley!!!

Congratulations all!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your prize.  All for now, Sue x

  9. Dear Sue and Weekend Wilsonettes,

It must be so cool to watch the colors appear as the dries clear glue turns from white to clear.

Does anyone live near Pam who could check on her? We know her full name and town, so if you guys have white pages or anywho, could we look up her address and then find a neighbor to check on her? Could we ask the police to do a well-being check? Let's hope if she fell ill, she got to a hospital and is being treated but doesn't have access to a computer. Pam, wherever you are, we love you!

Congratulations to the comment game winners! Yay, Susan, Yorkie Girl and Maria!

    Enjoy your Sunday.

  41. Hi Sue
What a beautiful card this morning, it really sparkles doesn't it. I do like the look of this technique but get too impatient waiting for the glue to dry. I think overnight taking about a week to do each colour is best for me otherwise it gets spoilt by fingers in wet glittery glue impatiently poking it to see if it's done yet! Thank you for sharing such a treat with us.

I'm so sorry to have worried you all,Donita you are a star. I was admitted to hospital as a emergency very late Friday night with suspected pancreatitis, liver infection, gall bladder infection or kidney problems. Some choices huh . I have been scanned, ultrasound and X rayed and I have gall bladder stones with an enlarged gall bladder and infection with a suspected stone in the liver. They are monitoring and controlling the pain, flushing fluids, antibiotics through an iv system, I'm not eating only drinking water and I will probably be in fir at least a couple more days. They won't operate whilst it is infected unless it gets really bad. They plan to operate in 6-8 weeks if all goes well. Other than that all is as fine as can be. Hmrc are gonna love this. Thank you again for caring so much I love you all.
Congratulations to winners and Deb E who must be on Cloud 9.

  76. Great job on getting all the different colors of glitter into just the right spaces. When I did this, I had close by spaces littered with migrating colors. Did you use an anti-static pad on the acetate first so the excess glitter could be tapped out?

  77. There are so many ways to use this die and you have illustrated one gorgeous one. It lends itself to the fine silk glitters as you have shown

We used this die in one of Julia's workshops and my end product (painted with CS paint) was lovely although certainly not up to the standard of yours.

  90. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

What a stunning card Sue, your stained glass dies are amongst my favourites, there are so many ways to colour them and make them shine. The colours are absolutely gorgeous and i love the addition of the lush red bow, it really finishes off the card beautifully elevating it to an outstanding creation. I will definitely be trying this technique out for myself, i have been stocking up on different silk glitter colours in preparation.
Apologies for my absence yesterday, the card was fantastic, another one to add to my special folder of must do cards. I've had a rough few days, my wound infection has gotten worse unfortunately...it hasn't been helped by the fact that I wasn't immediately given antibiotics, instead the nurse took a swab and said it was only a localised infection and therefore didn't need any medication. Three days later i got a phone call from the GP saying that the infection was throughout my body and needed immediate treatment. I was given antibiotics but unfortunately they have had a bad effect on me making me nauseous and physically sick:-( Feel really rough, don't think that the stitches will come out as planned on Tuesday though either.
Enough of my moaning when dear Pam is in such a bad way:-( How sweet to read so many concerned comments, it shows how important you are to the blog honey, things are not right in the world when you don't prop up the comment each morning. Believe me, there is no pain that surpasses the intensity of a gall bladder attack so my heart goes out to you, ive had many serious illnesses over the years and none were as painful as a flare up. Thankfully you are in the right place and hopefully they are helping you manage the pain and symptoms, an operation is the most sensible form of action i just hope that you don't have any more attacks before then. Sending hugsxxx
Carmen, thanks sweetie for the well wishes, maybe there is a little bit of you that cares:-) My Mum is doing well apart from her mobility problems, all of the tests she had came back clear which is a relief. I'm not sure about Yvonne though, havent heard from her since earlier in the week when she was really struggling. Hopefully she will be well enough to chat on Tuesday, I'll send her your love:-)
Myra, hope you enjoyed your break away, tell Maureen we miss her when you next speak, i hope she will be able to comment again soon.
Elaine, hugs to you and your loved ones.
Hugs to anyone in need and to those who just fancy one:-). Congrats to all of this weeks winners too.

    Love and crafty hugs
