Tropical Silhouette Card

Hi bloggers!  There is nothing prettier than a silhouette against a sunset sort of background!  I will show you how to achieve this very easy look in this video.

The finished dimensions are 7 1/4"  x  9 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Gorgeous card Sue, cheers up a very miserable morning. Wish I was there.
CraftySuetoo, that's typical of employers today, no respect for experience, knowledge or loyalty. Will a 19 year old be able to cope. You must feel so stressed, unwanted. Yesterday anither 3 people out their notice in, one of them is renowned throughout our offices fir his expertise in Bankruptcy cases, he deals with top law firms and they keep sticking him on the phones for hours each day and his Work can't be done by anyone else so it doesn't get done. He us now so fed up and stressed that he is going end of October, what a waste.
Elaine, Andrew is having a whale of a time, hope he lands Moby Dick.
Laine, you should have left the cleaning and got uncle some whiskey he will never have noticed. Enjoy the visit.
I'm sure the twins will have a good time, lots of lovely stories about their grandad too.
At hospital today, see the Respiratory physio, consultant on 7th July. Think infection has now cleared up but breathing still laboured but not as bad, thank you for asking.
Hugs to all you special people, and our missing and poorly friends.

  3. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, lovely card today on this rather miserable morning, what has happened to our sun today, certainly gone to sleep here in Kent anyway. Will watch the video later.

Pam I reiterate all you have said above. It is such a shame that experienced good staff are leaving in droves, sounds like your management team are going to be in big trouble very soon indeed - loyalty and experience should count for so much, once they have gone you can never replace them, their knowledge is invaluable.

Stay safe, heathy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  6. Hi Sue. Can't stop just packing my case with summery pretty floating dresses, cool cotton shorts and a few tips as I'm off to book our flight to paradise, are you going to share this destination with us that has the most idyllic sunset Sue, is it mentioned in your video ? Guess I'll have to wait till 4-paws and 2 legs are out in a little while. Your sample really is beautiful and makes me long for the warmth and total relaxation with a padded sun lounger watching the sun go down with a long cool pina colada, I've never had the kind of luxurious holiday where you see such wonderful colours painting the sky with beauty but I'm sure you have the background colours just so. A dear sweet blog friend sent me a photo of something similar she made for a friend and it's gorgeous Sue, hope she has the confidence to send you a photo too, it really captures a tropical sunset just like your sample has done. Thank you for the inspiration and pipe dream, I shall be watching how very soon now and can't wait. Sending my usual love n hugs your way xxx

  17. Good morning Sue. Stunning card and a fabulous video. Great tip about layering up the colour clouds. I'm going to picture this card all day and when I'm feeling stressed I'm going to imagine that I'm sat on that deckchair with a long cool drink in my hand, the only sounds are the gentle lapping of the sea in the distance and a few crickets chirruping. The seagulls aren't screeching - I can go outside to hear that for real!
Pam, what are your managers doing? Surely they should be fighting to keep experienced staff! Thanks to you and everyone else for your kind words, yes I am feeling unwanted and useless, but I know that it all comes down to money, why pay someone with experience when you can get a school leaver on minimum wage! Hugs to all. Sue xxx

  44. Morning Sue, what a lovely card. I could just do with a couple of weeks in a place like this. Looks perfect.

Pam your management team sound horrible. I am afraid loyalty and knowledge count for nothing nowadays. When I was working I was told that loyalty to one firm etc., was now considered a sign of weakness and lack of ambition. That goes against everything I was brought up to believe. So glad I am no longer in the work place. X

Pam echoing your comments today. Unfortunately what should be ringing alarm bells to employers probably makes them rub their hands together in glee at the amount of money they are saving. They will probably outsource the work and standards will slip even lower. Gone are the days of staff being appreciated and hard work rewarded. Sending you hugs, I hope all goes well at the clinic today xxx

  54. Dear Sue and the Cool Kids,

Does anybody know how many time you have to keep applying the three colors to get that effect? And do you swirl any to keep from having a line? Or is the motion for applying the colors always horizontal? That would be literally along the horizon in this case!

If I may weigh in on how a company can let experienced people go, and give their duties to a much lower-paid person. The whole idea is to get rid of the people who were expert in how it used to be done. If you were deemed redundant, they can't hire somebody to replace you, because she would be redundant too. So they hire someone to do your job and another job. The new people aren't slowed by maintaining standards. The new global economy has no time for standards, until there's an injury and a lawsuit. But for now, the standard maintainer is just wasting everyone's time and slowing the system down while there're trying to speed things up.

In the new economy, we're supposed to invent our own jobs rather than try to find an existing job. Watch, suddenly there will be an explosion of card making businesses on both sides of the pond.

    Best of Tuesdays to everyone.

    Love,
    Donitato

  80. Hi Sue, I loved this card when you showed it on your previous launch and I still love it now. Good to have the video to show me just how it should be done - I had taken the inspiration to make a card with different dies which didn't turn out too badly but not as beautifully as yours.

Pam & CraftySuetoo - I am so glad to be out of the workplace now. Prior to being made redundant some time after the firm was taken over I was lucky enough to work for many years for people who believed in and upheld the old standards. New people, new methods = nightmare. Sorry for the position you both find yourselves in.
Pam - hope the hospital visit goes well and the physio can help you.

I would like just a little of the sunshine from Sue's card to shine today please, since before I got up it has been raining constantly. I know some areas in the South need the rain and I am glad they have it but we have had enough!

Whilst it has poured down all day here i have been dreaming of exotic far away lands with lush palm trees and a little oasis against the hot white sands....i am being waited on by a tall, bronzed Adonis, much more muscular and handsome than Yvonne or Maureen's companion, whilst i too sip a jug of that lethal pink cocktail that made Maureen three sheets to the wind:-) If only it were a reality.........well, at least i have this stunning card and fab video to comfort me with:-)
I was super excited to notice on the blog earlier that there will be a show on Saturday featuring our Sue!!??!?! How utterly wonderful! I immediately checked the TV appearances on CE website for a list of the products and was astounded to see that its the new festive collection being displayed, my thrill levels are now stratospheric! I cannot wait......and it gives me four whole days with which to convince my Mum that i simply cannot live without this entire collection....initially, my tentative enquiries were met with indignation after all, my latest spending spree is still fresh in her mind, but i have time on my side:-)
As is our way, Yvonne and I just had to touch base and call each other to express our glee....its the best thing about having a felllow Wilsonette as a friend.....in fact, she was on such a high that she decided that she would like to make the treacherous journey North of the Border and visit me later on in the year! Eikes! I realise to my detriment that i have been rather too accommodating of her peculiarities and she now thinks that she is welcome.....she did promise to cook her scabby potatoes, white choc brownies and lemon poppy seed cake though so maybe i could tolerate her for a little while, what do you think?:-)
The house is in total disarray at the moment, my Mum is actually cooking?!!??!.....she's playing the dutiful sister and force feeding my Uncle till he's fit to burst....and Darcey is in a bit of a state at having some stranger invade her lounge and offensively, SIT on HER chair! She has spent her time either out in the rain or on the back of the sofa glaring at Uncle B furiously:-)
Pam, hope your appointment went well.
Elaine, i wish i could swap places with Andrew, i could do with a little sunshine and heat:-) Hope you got to the bottom of what's wrong with your eye, it sounds painful.
Huge hugs to all of my blog besties and their loved ones, plus anyone in need of a cuddlexxx

    Crafty hugs and love

  112. Hello Sue,
I'm late again! Sorry! I'm even later than Laine and she has a house guest! He doesn't seem to be the cat's whiskers though!! Lol!
This card is so restful and beautiful! I have two Adirondack chairs in the garden - however today you would have needed a jacket, boots and a mug of soup instead of the cocktail! It just ruins the ambience! Thank you for the tutorial and I can refer to it again and again if necessary!
The Birthday Wishes Die has become a favourite of mine! It's very clever!
I'm sorry I haven't been able to read everything today - itsjust been one of those days!! Sorry!
Thank you Pam and thanks againSue,
Love Myra ( Friend of Maureen)!! Xx

  116. Hi Sue
Beautiful sunset card Encouraging many of us to think of holidays past and in the future. No sunset here in Sussex tonight as it's pouring. Much needed by the garden though.
Very much looking forward to your shows this weekend. Xx

  117. From the comments above, it would appear that I have had almost the sort of weather in your card but without the palm trees. Just bright sunshine, glassy seas and pods of Pilot Whales and Beaked Whales popping up in the seas between Iceland and Northern Ireland.

But back to to this lovely card. Love the design and the colours!

  119. Hi Sue. Sorry I have been absent for a few days. (It was just the usual illness and symptoms. ) I love today's video and gorgeous Tropical card !!! I love your background technique to, those colours all seem to blend together so well. You have created such a stunning sunset scene. What a fab idea to cut your dies in black and use them like silhouettes !!! I love all of your Tropical Dies Sue. You said your frame was made using the double pierced background dies. I know it is a bit cheeky but are you going to bring us a Set B background die set to go with this set ? I use my Background die set all the time and a matching set B would be fantastic !!! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous card and fab video today. I am so pleased to see that you have shows on Hochanda at the weekend. I will be recording and watching as many of them as I can. I have really missed not seeing you on tv for such a long time now. Take care Sue, sending you lots of love from Tres x x x

  122. Hi Sue,

Oh dear, you just put some salt on the wounds with this card because I cannot go on vacation soon enough. Sun, sand, ocean and palm trees are the perfect scenario for my vacation. Thanks for this stunning card and another great video.

Pam – Hope all went well with your appointment.
CraftySuetoo – Sorry for what are you going thru. This is everywhere. If you are over 45 years old, don’t be surprised if one day you are not allowed to enter in the office or the security will escort you to pick up your belongings. No notice, nothing. You go to work in the morning and once you get there you find out that they decided to let you go. This happens in many companies here. Sad, but true.
Maureen – If you want to get rich, start selling the pink drink. Everybody wants some, I want some too...
Lynda - Poor you. All the best. Take care.
Elaine – What the doctor said? Hope your eye is better. Your post is the one I check first every day since Andrew left.I cannot wait to read more about his adventure. It reminds me of all those days spent in the Danube Delta waiting for the big carp. Early in the morning or late in the evening were our favorite hours of fishing. I have great memories. Different life then and there... Hugs for you all.

The highlight of the day, beside of Sue’s beautiful card of course: the Kid came back to work today. He totally surprised us. He feels good, he looks good and the pathology report is good. What a day!

    Hugs to you all,
Still a newbie to Craft / not longer the newest, or the only Canadian Wilsonette

  128. Good Morning Sue and all,
This is a superb card and brings back beautiful memories of days gone by. I lived in Canada for 22 years and for 20 of those years spent 6 months of the year in Florida. Your card transported me back to those days and I thank you very much.
