Distressed Mirror Background

Hi crafters!  Today's video uses mirror card, but shows a technique to turn it into a lovely distressed look for backgrounds for your cards and projects.

Just a little note, but the new April 2017 die release will start here on the blog in the morning at 6am.  I am very excited to share them with you, I hope you can pop by the blog to have a peek!

The finished dimensions are 6 1/4" x 8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  2. Lovely card, so beautiful. Hope you are feeling better and more rested Sue, we all want the best fir you. So excited to see the new launch too.
Elaine, I'm sorry that Andrew has been unwell over the weekend, coping with his treatment, and worrying about Helen and dealing with the grief is bound to take its toll. I hope you all find peace and comfort soon.
Now that Saba us here, it brings it closer to the Gang meet up, really looking forward to hearing all the stories from that and No Editing mind. I hope Patricia, Jess, Myra and Norah are all fighting fit in time.
Sharon, have a wonderful time with your friend and a Happy Birthday when it dawns.
Yvonne, you sound very chipper, the holiday has done you good, I'm pleased to say. Now how about Laine, missing her chatty comments.
Helen, hope your shoulder has settled down after AP, sorry you got barged even with a sling on, lot if don't care attitudes out there I'm afraid.
Thank you for all well wishes, saw GP and I have pneumonia in my left lung. He said the emerg meds stopped it getting any worse but he has given me an extra antibiotic as well. He said my lung was hissing and crackling like a witches cauldron. Thanks doc.
I hope everyone that is suffering from these awful bugs feels better soon.
Hugs to all, especially our poorly, missing and Carers of family friends.

How do you think of all of these techniques Sue, the gold mirror card looks fabulous with that bit of distressing - great video as always. That is one gorgeous EF too.
Hope you are feeling better and that you get better now with the antibiotics Pam.
Isn't it odd how we all seem to go down with these bugs at the end of winter just as there is a hope of spring in the air. Keep well all.

For any new followers of this inspirational craft blog, to make sure your views count to take Sue back up from 8th position to the number 1 position that is so deserved, your visit WONT BE COUNTED if you visit via the Blogloving email you receive. The best way is to put this blog address on your favourites as most of us do then once you click the address your visit is counted. There are 3000+ members on the UK fb group that's without the US fb group so between both groups plus 'friends' that enjoy visiting there should be no reason for this home of beauty to remain in its 8th position. So I'm now off to watch the know how tutorial, and look forward to all the new dies and samples, and hopefully watch the blog start and make its way to the top again ☺
Sending hugs your way Sue and hope you're feeling brighter today xxx

  11. Morning Sue. This is a gorgeous card. Havent watched the video yet as i have just got myself out of bed and i havent had my coffee yet, so will sit with my coffee later and have a good look at the video and a few others i have not seen yet. There is so much to look at on this card and it has a vintage look to it, i think this is another one to try. Cant wait to see what your card samples are like for your new launch as i have had a look at your new dies and i have my wish list all ready but i want to see what you can do with some of them before i order any. Hope you are feeling more like yourself Sue as there is nothing worse than feeling under the weather when you have things to do. Please take care and get some rest.
    Best Wishes.

  56. Hi Sue,

Thanks for this brilliant demo - I didn't think that Gilding Polish would dry on mirror card but it does!...that is so useful to know, it means I can use up some of my stash now that I know how to tone that blinding glare...beautiful card.

So looking forward to tomorrow morning, like Elaine I've resisted the temptation to sneak peek as I love the surprise as each new set is presented with an example of how to use it here on the best blog ever...have to echo Stephanie's plea, we need to do something to bring Sue's blog back up to No.1 where it deserves to be so any ladies who come here through Bloglovin please ditch that route and come direct...pretty please

Lost my Fitbit while gardening yesterday afternoon - OH and I retraced my steps several times last night but no joy...luckily it didn't rain last night so I shall be out there again today searching for it - I'll even empty out the compost bin in case it fell in there....yuk! and what makes the loss even more tragic is that all the steps I took while looking for it would have bumped up my daily total by at least two or three thousand...what a bummer...lol

Great card today and great video to match! As Izzy said I would have thought the gilding polish wouldn't stick to the shiny mirri card but it does. The finishing touch though was the distressing! Brilliant! I love that EF too. So looking forward to seeing what you do with the new Dies tomorrow! I hope you are feeling better. Have a rest over Easter as I see you have a Show scheduled for next week too!
Izzy - I'm sorry I laughed - not about the Fitbit getting lost but about your sadness at the number of uncounted steps!! Hope you find it!
Pam - you take care please! That's doctors for you - it made me laugh though! Hubble, Bubble , Toil and Trouble - they are just four of the naughty nine!! I'm thinking of names for the others!! Now ladies don't start thinking of the names of the seven dwarfs!! I won't be Happy!!
Actually - Dozy is me in the morning!
Helen Bell - I meant to say this yesterday - sorry you got a bit jostled at Ally Pally. You would have been so worried about getting hurt. You will hopefully be good as new by September!

Oh I just love this card, the distressing you have done is lovely with starting out with mirri card and making it look distressed in the end, must try that technique, have just invested in quite a few guilding wax polishes....Quite unusual for you to use a satin flower as well, used to you making your own, but a most beautiful card in the end....thanks Sue...So looking forward to seeing all your cards made with your new die release....they all look so amazing, how you think of all the ideas to make them, amazes me.....luv Ursula xx

  102. Hello Sue,

This is such an elegant card. I saw your video when it first posted on You Tube and liked it so much that I made my own version. In a different color they look so different. Was I surprised that I saw this on your post today as I also posted my verson on Facebook last night.

I, like the rest of the gang, am really looking forward to the launch in the morning. Launch time is one of the best times of the year. The only thing better, is actually getting the dies.

Hope that you are beginning to feel better.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

    Beverly

  111. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

What a fantastic video, i really enjoyed the whole process of making this gorgeous card, plenty of hints and tips with a brand new technique for me to get my teeth into when i eventually venture into my craft room again....long and tedious reasons to my crafting inertia that I won't trouble the blog with. I always used a little bit of Mirror card on my projects in the past, just as an accent in the matting and layering, however, i always shied away from using it as the main focal point fearing that it would be simply too much and garish....this card has changed my mind, the distressing softened the look beautifully and added colour and texture without overwhelming the rest of the die cuts. Your choice of accents, the silk flower and branches provided just enough oomph without it being too fussy. A stunning card with which to be proud of Sue, thanks for the inspirationxxx
Apologies for my absence over the weekend, I was stewing in my own juices, green with envy at the lucky people who were getting to meet the lovely Sue without me!:-) Seriously though, i was actually feeling sorry for myself as a rather mean migraine resurfaced and stopped me from using my iPad again:-(
Reading back i see that the lurgy is really doing the rounds at the moment with even our divine Sue being affected, I was amazed that you managed to cope with the physical strain of two days of demos, meet and greets and general all round fabulousness, i am in awe and so impressed with your dedication and professionalism however i sincerely hope that you are able to take some time out to recover over the coming week. Take care Sue and please put yourself first for a changexxx
Pam, I'm also worried about you my dear, you are the backbone of the blog and without your daily synopsis we would be a chaotic mess. Pneumonia is a serious deal, even I wont make a witty remark regarding witches, rather i will simply wish you a speedy recovery and hope that even your employers will give you time off to recuperate. Take care and thanks for noticing my absence even when you are so unwell yourselfxxx
Saba, glad you enjoyed your party and had a safe flight back to Blighty...when is the meeting of the Naughty Nine taking place? I hope everything goes to plan with Norah, Jess, Patricia and Myra being under the weather, you may be wise utilising a face mask during your get together just to be safe!
Myra, thankyou for missing me, you are a true friend...unlike others I could mention.....I feel truly appreciated! How is your throat doing? Wouldn't it be a nightmare if you couldn't talk during your get together with the girls:-( Fear not my dear, I don't see you as an ugly, hateful witch, however Dozy does seem the obvious choice....:-)
Maria, I'm fighting fit but thanks for caring, hope you are well too....how's the shoulder?
Yvonne, you must be surprised to see me comment after our chat, what an endurance test that was! I am mentally exhausted and even somewhat scarred by the experience but I realise just how much you look forward to our conversations so i soldier on:-) I hope your visit to see Marjorie went well and that she's feeling better. Talking to you has put my excitement levels stratospheric, i can't wait for tomorrow's launch and to see Sue's genius at work:-)
Carmen, hope you are well my dear, did you miss me? I was wondering, what age is your son(children)?....don't worry, nothing sinister in my enquiry despite what some on the blog have suggested:-)
love to everyone and roll on tomorrow!

    Crafty hugs

This is such a plush and lavish looking card. Beautiful. I am very intrigued by that background so will look forward to watching you in action. Not had a chance yet x
Oh my goodness - my excitement is at fever pitch levels. I am feeling like a small child on Christmas Eve. The anticipation of what delights will greet me in the morning when I wake up (if I manage to sleep at all), is overwhelming.
Having seen all your new dies (because I have been checking them out whenever I get the chance) I am so intrigued to see what you have done with our amazing new toys x
Please Wilsonettes tell me I am not the only one who has completely transported back to my childhood anticipating a longed for surprise x
Another lovely day but my pace has slowed somewhat and the washing is not finished but I will battle on. I am somewhat surprised not to find Laine has beaten me on here and done her utmost to ruin my honour and spotless reputation. We spoke this afternoon, mostly about the upcoming festivities on the blog and I did my best to sound interested in the rest of her chatter!! Quite busy this week so I will not have to talk to her again for a while - I will show willing when the time comes x
I have been to visit Marjorie (my 95 year old neighbour), in hospital this evening as she has had a fall and cracked a couple of ribs. She is in a lot of pain but as always she is so cheerful and unassuming. Don't know when she will be home but it certainly won't be for a week or two x
So I am going to finish by sending happy thoughts and lots of love to everyone and healing hugs to all you poorly Wilsonettes. I am feeling pretty done in so am heading to bed to get some rest before tomorrows activities. To all my blog besties - oodles of love x
    Take care

Looking forward to the die launch and the amazing cards that are coming our way.
Hope you are feeling much better as there are so many viruses going about it not surprising that you have caught something. I can recommend Manuka Honey from Holland and Barratt, one teaspoon every morning but make sure it is strength 15 or above.

A lovely card with your dies and your antique-look technique. I really like the embossed look of the mirror card. It is also a nice look using the Colour Cloud Blending Ink to tone down the shinning of the mirror card. Your composition is beautiful. Thank you for inspiring me in another set of techniques.
