Christmas Double Days

Hi bloggers!  First up is a black and white card that you may have spotted during one of my recent set of Christmas shows.  It is really lovely, I just wish I could have captured that better for you in the pictures!  I started by cutting the Starry night background out of black card that was covered with a sticky adhesive sheet.  I peeled the backing off and covered it with Midnight Snow, then added a piece of Icicle card behind to show the stars and moon.  I cut the Christmas Cottages in white and stacked them below the moon.  I cut a multi layer frame using the Double Pierced Noble Circles and seated it over the scene.  I cut the Noel word and added it at the bottom of the scene.  Using the Triple Line Merry Christmas, I cut a background using it repeatedly and leaving the words inside the actual cut out for a white on white tonal look.  I completed the card with several white poinsettias set off by the black outline and black Dazzler centres.  Holly Branches were used as accents around them.  white and black mats were used to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  7" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

For card number two, I cut the decorative die from the Aurora Star all over a piece of Cobalt Blue card.  I added a piece of sticky adhesive to the back and burnished Diamond Snow into the exposed areas of the stars on the front.  I cut the piece into three sections and added mounting foam to them.  I mounted them on to another piece of coconut white card to create the background.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with a Pierced Flag die, adding a slightly larger one in blue as a mat.  I cut one more Aurora Star in white, then added it to a backing star covered with a sticky adhesive.  I attached the two pieces then added Diamond Sprinkles to it as well.  I seated the star at the end of the sentiment strip.  White and blue mats with piercing were added to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 7" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  10. Morning Sue. It's the first one for me I think. There are so many different levels to look at and I'm so pleased you have a close up for us. The sentiment background followed by the starry night sky background, then that sweet little village scene nestled in the layers of frames, it must have taken a good few hours from start to finish to finally get this to how you imagined it to be, and the finale of flowers completes it beautifully, i like the 2nd card very much and would make good batch cards im thinking, but the first - elegant sweet and in some strange way, soothing, as it resembles a dark night sky which should portray peace and comfort (for some) although there seems to be more and more people that have a cold starry night sky as their roof these days.
Moving onwards, 2 New Additions blue cards and a pink now completed, then I had a vision in my head that said someone will ask for these in no particular colour as baby hasn't arrived yet but wants something a little 'different' for when. So, all the dies have been cut in white and again in milk in prep for two maybe three more cards for the customer awaiting a family or friend new arrival that the gender is unknown or kept as a secret. Just one problem - it's going to have to be a big final push done in stages as due to all the meds that I'm taking and injecting that have taken my immune system, even a cold makes us feel totally lowsey and that's where I'm at ! To say I was hallucinating last night doesn't come close to the fear I was going through lol I ache from my hair roots to my little toe, so I hope with the help of parrots eat am all, a hot wheat bag, will help me into my craft room and slowly get there cards done, I just hope that I don't feel too off colour Sunday and not be able to get to market as the heating there isn't brilliant either ! At least I have a warm roof between me and a cold starry night sky !!!
Leaving that there, I'm still capable of producing lots of love and hugs so they are coming your way, and to my 'lovely' long standing virtual friends both on and off the blog (you know who you special people are)
Have a good day Sue xxx p.s. the New Additions..... the best ever, thank you xx

The first card is stunning and only for those special people who appreciate hand crafted cards, I love the way the moon and stars peep through the twinkling night sky. June , hope you are in less pain and getting along nicely with the exercises ?

Both my boys did well at the Hospital Yesterday, they came over to visit on their way home, Darren was looking rather pale and Andrew was looking hot and pink but his treatment went well.

  45. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, 2 gorgeous cards today, and I have got these dies so will have a play when I feel up to it.

Not had time to go all through the comments for the past week but I will at some stage catch up, sorry.

Had a better night last night, Colin had to go and get the proper toilet seat and stool for the shower yesterday and that is much better (although the stool is really cold when you first sit on it - brass monkeys spring to mind haha!!.

Physio is going to ring again today to see how things are going and then they will tell me what time they are coming on Monday, every day is a little better but Colin keeps on at me to do the exercises otherwise the knee will cease up and we don't want that.

Hope everyone is getting on OK, special hugs to everyone.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  49. Morning Sue and all, two amazing cards to wake up to this morning they are both stunning.

Well I went for my interview , at the start of the interview they told me someone else from Marks got the job. I was gutted and still went through the interview. They left me a room to complete some tasks on my own, got interviewed by two different people and was told at the end that I had passed . They was very pleased with me but for the time they could only give me a weekend job. I had to decline, I don't mind some weekend work not every as I would not to my husband. Gutted but they are keeping me on record.

  75. Hi Sue, two lovely cards but I absolutely love the first one. I have the Cottage scene and poinsettia dies and I am waiting for the Starry Night Sky to come back in stock at my favourite supplier so hopefully I will be able to create something similar very soon.

Tracy - sorry about the Platinum machine, it does seem very silly not to supply full sized plates but then I suppose they want more profit by selling them separately.

Wendy - at least the interview went well and will have helped with some of those first time nerves. It is good they will keep you on file, just a shame that there was no full time position for you now. Don't be too disheartened, onwards and upwards!

  76. Hi Sue
Two super cards, love the beautiful cottage scene in black and white it makes a very special card. I also like the more contemporary look with the star and it would make a great batch card although I think I would do it in silver and white. Have only three more Christmas cards to make but have used all my vintage silver and gold card so I must order some of the new pearlised ones.

Wendy congratulations you passed the interview and got offered a job, not the one you wanted I know, so you must be proud of yourself
Steph hope the cold clears up before market day

Hugs and best wishes to everyone

  77. I am not really a black and white card person but I really think this is a great striking dramatic this card, my cousin who likes black and white would like this style. I really must start making cards for what people themself like and not what I like!!! Now the blue one I love, blue and white is one of my favourite combinations. I really look forward to viewing your cards every day, it gives me a fresh thought on how to use your dies. Kind regards Sandra

However I have to comment on your beautiful cards! They are both stunning - I love the poinsettias in particular in the first card as they are so strikingly beautiful. However my favourite is the second card. It's gorgeous.
I've made 7 Christmas cards so far! Not great is it! I do, however, have lots of Die- cuts and backgrounds waiting for action. One card has already gone to Rwanda! I thought your snowflakes would be good for there as they won't have seen any real ones! Also the card is for a young person!
Love to everyone - will read other posts later! I think!
    Myra xx

  110. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

What a couple of corkers! I so love our Friday double days particularly when they feature some of my most favourite dies. The first card is far and away my favourite, i have been eagerly awaiting its day on the blog since i first saw it at Ally Pally. Oh my gosh, what is it that is so special about it i ask myself, well, i think that the cute village scene set against the sparkly starry sky is to die for...framing it with the noble circles finishes it off superbly and the poinsettias with the black open petal detailing are gorgeous. Luckily i have all of these dies and will be trying my best to recreate this little beauty next week when i officially make a start upon my Christmas cards.
The second card would be perfect for batch making and offers a fantastic alternative to the more intricate detailing of card no. 1. I love the cobalt colour, it suits the feel of the die perfectly. I'm sure that this will be making an appearance in my batch of cards this year too. Thanks for more fabulous inspiration Sue, YOU are a star!
Whew! I've had a hectic day today and feel well and truly knackered now, but i really wanted to tell Sue just how much i love her designs for today. To be fair, I shouldn't be so tired when all i've done is a bit of retail therapy and have my nails done but i didn't get back until late and with the nights getting darker psychologically my mind said bedtime! So I'll keep it short and sweet just for a change:-)
June, keep up the good work with your exercises, each day will see an improvement i'm sure. Sending hugs
P, your wee boy sounds adorable, are you going to introduce him to the three little musketeers soon, it would be nice for him to have the company. i'm so sorry your favourite vet is retiring, its such a trauma for you and your babies because I'm guessing you have a season ticket to the surgery:-) Hope you connect with another one thoughxxx
Elaine, glad to hear Andrew and Darren are well after their hospital experiences.
Tina, I wouldn't say no to homemade shepherd's pie either:-)
Tracy, you are spot on, they should have provided us with the large plates, I just use my GC plates though and find them reasonably okay...maybe your machine is tighter than mine if that makes any sense, they all have different pressures i think.
Frances, how is hubby progressing after his mini stroke? Hugs
Maria, good luck with the injections, i really hope it does the trick and makes your pain more manageablexxx
Yvonne, hope the boys sort out their differences this time, i bet Jake was livid though:-( Hope an air of calm descends again for your sakexxx
Hugs to all my besties including Pam, Pat, Theresa, Wheely, Myra, Maureen, Norah, Alison, Beth, DEb Cand Rebeccaxxxx

  115. Hi Sue. I like both of the cards but I have to admit that I like the first one best, in fact I was so taken with it when I first saw it that I had to go a buy the Christmas Village die immediately.

  122. love both cards - but the first one is my favortie-- I love the scene . How did you cut the pierced circle frames? Did you need both sizes of the double pierced circle dies to make the frames ? i really like them but will need to save for a LONG time in order to afford them

    the card is gorgeous
