Double Striplet Sunday

Good Sunday morning all!  I thought I might do double days based on the same dies in two different cards (at least until I run out of enough cards! LOL)  I have selected two cards using the Petite Squared Tile die this week.  For the first card, I cut the decorative inside part of the die three times across a piece of black card.  I added a sticky adhesive sheet to the back of it, then gilded the exposed adhesive with Persian Dawn gilding flakes.  I used the outer cutting edge from the Belgian Tag to cut a shape into the middle of the background.  I added mounting foam to the aperture to raise it for dimension .  I then added the cut out tag shape back into to the recess of the aperture.  I cut the entire tag out of black and glued it into the aperture.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the smaller die in the centre of the tag.  I matted it with a piece of gold card.  The card was completed with a white pierced mat, then thin black mat and a final white mat.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  7 1/2" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

Card number two has been paper pieced using red, grey, silver and black card into a die cut white background.  I cut the Squared Tile Striplet die four times across a piece of white card.  I covered a second piece of white card with a sticky adhesive sheet.  I attached the die cut to the exposed adhesive.  I cut the die again in black, red, grey and silver four times and used the waste from each to piece back into the original.  I stamped my sentiment (which, by the way, I thought should have said Get Well Soon because of the red crosses in the pattern, but couldn't find one anywhere!)  I cut a frame from the Bern die and backed the corner area with red card and then filed in the remaining area with black card.  I mounted it in the centre of the card.  I completed the card with the same white black white matting and layering.  The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x  7" in size.  Both very simple cards, but two different techniques which both work great for those cards we need for the men in our lives too!

The winners of this week's Comment Game are:

Debra K!!!
Denise Bryant!!!
Susan Mitchell!!!

  9. Sunday Smiles to you Sue. Oh WOW, 2 absolutely gorgeous samples from the same striplet - if that doesn't prove to all other die designers that your designs are the most versatile then I don't know what will ! I have a feeling Sue that I have an older stamp collection from CE, cling rubber stamps that has that sentiment included, its a few years old now, and id love to go check but all todays market storage boxes are piled up in front of where some of my craft lives, but I will have to check later cuz it's going to drive me doolally until I can get to check it out !
Congrats to the 3 winners today, enjoy your gift.

  30. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, what a glorious morning it is today, the sky is blue, it is warm and we are all here to join in Sue's blog., what more could we want.

The double day cards on offer today are phenomenal, two such different cards achieved with the same beautiful dies, they are amazing in their own right. I do have a favourite, even though it was very hard to choose, and that is the 2nd one as I love this technique, I agree with you Sue about the red cross as that is exactly what I thought when I first saw it, talk about great minds think alike, I suspect a lot of your followers have thought the same.

Congrats to all the winners, Debra, Denise and Susan, you will be so overjoyed and proud when you receive your prize.

I had an absolutely brilliant birthday yesterday, a lot of my family were able to get to our bbq and my hubby did us proud. We had so many laughs, lots of hugs and kisses, I have so many beautiful cards, oh my word you should see them, I am going to try and take some pictures later and put them on my facebook page. I would like to thank Sue and EVERYONE who commented here on the blog, and also on facebook, with their birthday wishes, I am so, lucky to have so many friends. Thank you all once again.

I had treated myself to some parchment perforating tools and they arrived yesterday and I was so pleased with them, my mind in in a whirl with so many creations I would like to make.

Laine and Yvonne - well what can I say - you are both going to have a great week together, not sure how much crafting you are going to do because that naughty step and giggle stool are going to be permanently occupied. I am going to AP on Saturday, hopefully I will see you there.

Steph - hope the market stall goes well today and you sell loads and loads, then you will have more money to purchase more craft stuff.....method in my madness....

Elaine I hope the antibiotics and cream are helping with the cellulitis, I have heard that it really is painful, but you do have to keep moving if you can. Hope Andrew is ok.

Thinking of Tina, Peter, Pat, Sarah, Tracey and anyone else I have forgotten (sorry blame it on my age 69).

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  39. Morning sue and crafty friends.
Two stunning cards this morning. I don't have the patience to do paper piecing but I love the effect that it gives.
I do think the first one gives the wow factor it just pops wth the black and looks expensive with the gilding flakes.

Yesterday I did in fact use gilding flakes and gilding wax on some X as cards using the snowflake flurry die I'll send u a pic sue as I've fell in love with the snowflake and I was very chuffed at my creations lol.
I did have to tell myself not to breathe as I opened the pot to get some flakes out as the last time I tried them I sneezed and I'd left the pot lid off! Not this time lid went back on. So that's two messy things I've used.
Onto the pixie powders today! That'll be fun lol.

Pam. I'll try not to run the mess thru my hair however as well as the granny looking grey, rainbow hair is also in fashion so it's a win win lol. Actually back in my 20's I actually bleached my hair and had bright pillar box red put thru it. Had that for years then went to pink. When eventually I went back to brown after splitting up after a long term relationship and meeting Graeme I went all normal. Graeme didn't like my bright hair as he'd known me prior to dating lol.
My customers in the shop still miss it to this day as I'm not so easy to spot if they need assistance lol ah well.

Yvonne and Laine. I so wish I was coming with u guys it sounds like so much fun. I agree tho I don't think u will manage any crafting for getting up to mischief lol X

    Love to all xx

I hope everyone is having a great Bank Holiday weekend. We had a great day yesterday, it's dull, gloomy and humid today and I'll bet it rains tomorrow. Luckily we've not had any of those terrible thunderstorms in my neck of the woods and I hope it hasn't affected anyone too badly. I've got a wicked sense of humour and have to hold up my hand to admit that when I read about the waterfall pouring down over the customer service desk in Tesco - Boston, I couldn't help laughing, I was glad no-one was hurt after the lightening strike though as you can always shop somewhere else.
    Happy Crafting everyone.

  86. Good morning! Great cards today using the Petite Squared Tile die. I used this die on an Asian type card last week for a card for my son who just received his Masters. I enjoyed, too, adding gilding flakes to the background and adding a gilded flaked and glittered dragon with a group of glittered ginkgo leaves. I was pleasantly pleased how easy this Tile die cut with the bits and pieces falling out after die cutting it fives times in a row. Wish I had kept all those bits and pieces for the inlay look in the future! Thank you for sharing your ideas.

The first is so striking with the beautifully rich gilding flakes. The second (red cross) card is more retro but equally fabulous.
I think these cards would be so gratefully received especially for those pesky 'man and boy' cards. Thanks for your continuing inspiration and sharing x
Well much cooler today thank goodness. It has been raining on and off since this morning but is making for a refreshing change and I am not feeling quite so drained.
I managed to get 3 cards made yesterday - yes 3. I'm on a roll. I have been known to gift boxes of handmade cards for friends and relatives birthday and Christmas presents and this has always been a hit causing much delight to the recipient. Well in the past it has been birthday cards and cards for occasions throughout the year which I have given. After hearing a friend expressing her disgust at how expensive it was for 'Special Christmas Cards', and saying how difficult it is to find nice cards I had a brainwave (ouch)! With all Sue's inspiration, what could be better than making some Christmas Cards to gift?
So yesterday I made 3 and I felt rather pleased with myself. Partly because 3 cards in 1 day is something I have failed to achieve for ages and partly because although they were not up to Sue's magnificent and untouchable standard they were not bad.
A little more tidying in the general vicinity of the 'dumping' area in my crafting area and all in all quite fruitful day. I rewarded myself by settling down to watch Casualty with a cup of coffee and a bag of kettle chips - a family size bag of course x
Fluffy - as you know Croydon is a rather middle class, up and coming, hip and trendy place to be! Some would say posh! I just have concerns that this wee lass fro north of the border is going to lower the tone. You know how it is? Lol. Hugs x
Myra - you and me in a room with a white carpet, white curtains and white furniture and some pixie powders - what fun!! Hugs x
Maureen - flies on the wall?? Not man enough to be with us in person? Lol. Hugs x
Laine you will have to eat your cheesecake and Eton mess on the naughty step. I am so thrilled that you have agreed to be in charge of quality control before I give Sue her white chocolate fudge. What would I do without you? Hugs x
Helen - it's apprehension on my part not excitement! Lol. Hugs x
Lynda - we will be at AP on Sunday. It would seem that everyone else is going on Saturday. Hmmm. Do you think they are trying to tell us something? How bout you? Please wear sensible shoes and be carerful to avoid any mishaps! Hugs x
Pam - can you imagine a mass meeting of Wilsonette? Havoc! But well worth it. Hugs x
Tina - glad Peter seemed brighter yesterday. Hugs to you both x
June - a giggle stool will definitely not suffice. I do think stocking up on my tena lady may be a good plan. Lol. Glad you had a lovely birthday. Laine and I planning to go to AP on the Sunday. Hugs x
Tracy - I sincerely hope you are pixieing today. Hugs x
Elaine - I hope you start to feel more 'with it' very soon. Glad Andrew has his appetite back. Hugs x
Off now so I will wish you all a happy Sunday.
Lots of love to everyone, specially Maria, P, Nanna Tina, Wheely, Lorraine and anyone else that my braincell is struggling to remember.
    Take care
    Happy thoughts
    Crafty hugs
    Yvonne

  94. Hello Sue
I love your idea for double cards using the same dies. Elaine so sorry you are not seeing any improvement in your leg. Tina T so glad Peter is more comfortable I think the doctors are concentrating on sorting out his kidneys first because it has the potential to cause more problems also they need the scan results before starting treatment. Congratulations to all the comment winners.

  97. Great cards, Sue, really like the double days. Nice to have two takes on the same set of dies, really love the first but would definitely have no patience for the paper piecing although it looks so good.
Well done to the comment winners.
Think we're all getting a vicarious thrill about the Croydon meet-up. Whatever, it surely won't be an anti climax!! Laine, you've got to take care of yourself in prep for the big trip south, the anticipation is building!! And that's just with us lol.
Hugs to all who need one.

  101. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Well, what a bank holiday treat! Two cards, what can I say, I'm over the moon Sue, you are so spoiling us:-) Great idea showcasing two cards using the same principal die, it gives us a clear idea how to utilise it in different ways to achieve differing looks.
It's no secret that I love gilding flakes, their opulence is unrivalled, and when framed beautifully in black it enhances the richness all the more. Paper piecing is truly a labour of love only to be undertaken by the patient amongst us:-) I love the effect of this card, the colours are very complementary and definitely suitable for the more discerning recipients ie men. Thanks for such a treat Sue it's very much appreciatedxxx
If Bank Holidays are designed to be spent loafing about without any real sense of purpose then I am spending mine with the right idea! Whilst my Mum went out to visit Stirling Castle...or a park bench to be more precise because her mobility problems stopped her doing the necessary climbing.....I on the otherhand spent the day pampering myself and watching tv....I feel very guilty now, if it wasn't for the fact that I had a chat with Yvonne this afternoon I would put myself on that naughty step! Meanwhile she tells me that she produced three cards yesterday!!??! I am suitably impressed...and embarrassed by my own inactivity. I will clearly have to pull my creative socks up before I venture South. Speaking of travelling, my Mum has suggested that I start packing now, a full 16 days before I need to leave.....I find that rather too organised and eager, what do you think?
Myra and Maureen, I would never have dreamed of likening you both to pesky, disease carrying flies but if the cap fits:-) Don't worry, you won't miss a thing because I think that I will need the support of my blog buddies during my stay away, it will be a traumatic experience that may need counselling at the very least:-)
June, I'm so glad you had the birthday you so clearly deserved...and to get a personal message from Sue, wow you lucky lady! I wish that I could meet you and the rest of my blog buddies but it appears that Yvonne has arranged for our paths not to cross, such is her jealousy and possessiveness, by scheduling our visit for the Sunday....it's quieter she says, more time to meet my hero Sue she thinks, so I have to bow to her superior knowledge and overriding bossiness. Maybe if I survive this trip we can all meet up next time in April.
Pam, I'd love to have you tag along with us but I fear that I'd only leave you hanging around for hours waiting on my arrival, you clearly are a morning bird whereas if I'm awake before 10am then there's hell to pay:-) I wonder if Sue is nervous about meeting us, do you think that she may have had the foresight to employ a bodyguard?
Elaine, you poor soul, you really are suffering. I hope the antibiotics kick in soon and the cream gives you some relief. June is spot on about keeping moving though if you possibly can. How heartening about Andrew, onwards and upwardsxxx
Tracy, there's nothing nicer than grey hair on a fresh young face, you rock it baby! Pillar box red you say, I've never had the urge to go bright and bold, preferring dark brown/violet tones but I'm sure you looked great despite what hubby thought...men don't tend to be adventurous do they? Good luck with the pixie challenge.
Hugs to all my blog besties, Frances, Maris, Wheely, Theresa, pat, P, Beth, Rebecca, Jan, Alison,Lorraine, Lynda, Linda and anyone I may have forgotxxxx

  102. Oh, huge congrats to the comment game winners, enjoy your prize.
P, it's lovely to see the excitement building, I have to say that I am not immune but there is an overriding sense of foreboding also about spending more than an hour at a time listening to Yvonne , my nerves will be frazzled, I will be a shell of my former self:-) But seriously, you are so right, I must not overdo things in the meantime....hence today's sloth ness....I'll need plenty of vim and vigour to counter Yvonne's bullishness:-)
Yvonne, I am just a touch impressed by your organisational skills, maybe you could extend it to the rest of the house and actually Hoover?:-)
Enough of the naughty step already, I have absolutely no intention of spending any time there...as you will soon come to realise, I make excellent company, funny, humble, witty, intelligent, the list of superlatives goes on, so let it go dear, it's simply not appropriate:-)
    Love and hugs

  110. Sue these are two beautiful cards and i love them both.
Although i think the gilding flakes one is my favourite.
I love that you have shown two very different cards using the same die.
I don't know about anyone else but sometimes i get stuck and end up doing the same thing so it's nice to be shown different looks.

  111. Hi Sue. WOW !!! Both of today's cards are totally gorgeous !!! stunning !!! I just love them !!! but then I absolutely love the petite tiled square striplet die. I just have to get this die. I love the first card made with the Persian Dawn gilding flakes and black cardstock. The Belgian tag die looks great to. I really love the second card as I love the paper piecing technique. Great colours you have used for your card Sue. I have the die you have used for the centre of this card and it is one of my favourites at the moment. I think if I was to choose a favourite card it would be the second card Sue. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous cards today. Sending lots of love to you Sue from Tres x x x

  112. Hi Sue, sorry to be late but it has been a busy day. So glad that I haven't missed out on these two beauties. Both cards are lovely but despite the large quantity of black on show I really like the first one best but then I do love gilding flakes.

Congratulations to this week's comment game winners, enjoy your prizes.

I hope everyone is enjoying the long week-end and no-one is suffering too much. Going to have a nice long soak in the bath now and will return tomorrow hopefully fully refreshed.

  113. Evening Sue. Same die but how different the two cards are. My favourite is the first one. Wouldn't have the patience for the second paper pieced one which is a good generic card. Thanks for your inspiration . X
