Happy Birthday To You

Hi bloggers!  Today's card is a bit of a different use of the Shadow Box dies, but it just shows you what versatility they have!  I started with the background and cut the Happy Birthday triple line die three times, lining it up directly underneath each time I cut it.  Also, using wax paper really helps with this die so you don't stretch the card when removing the die.  Once cut, I sprayed the back with permanent spray adhesive and added it to a piece of wisteria card to show through it.  I trimmed it with a small border around it and matted it on black card.  Next I cut the Happy Birthday Shadow Box frame out of coconut white card.  I decided to use only a few of the cubbie cubes so I trimmed the largest one away and two of the smaller boxes.  I added a piece of acetate to the backs of both pieces, then mounting foam to raise them.    I placed the larger box in the upper corner and the two smaller boxes in the lower right.  I cut out the Happy Birthday to you sentiment twice, once in Iris card and one in black.  I offset them with the black acting as a shadow and then added it to the acetate in the larger box so it looks like it is floating.  I did the same thing with the present and party hat and glued them into the two smaller boxes. In the lower corner, I added a couple of poppies cut out of iris card and used a thin black marker to add the embossing lines to them.  I seated them on a black jute twine bow and added olive branches cut out of black card.  I completed the card with white, iris and black mats.  The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x  8 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  5. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, stunning absolutely stunning, I saw you on Hochanda the other day doing this with the wax paper and the wording, it was so interesting to see it done on TV, I only wished that Virgin Media would take Hochanda on, they would benefit from it so much, I think Sky is the biggest but Virgin is the next largest before BT so look at the audience they would cover. Anyway I digress, sorry, rant over. It really is a beautiful card.

Just thought I would mention too that John did a fantastic job yesterday covering for you during those 2 hours, the goodies that were on offer were great but the samples and demo's amazing, loved it and I am going to watch it again in a minute and hopefully can record it on my phone from the PC screen...........see there are ways of getting round these things.

Not sure what has happened with everyone so I will just say hugs to everyone who needs one.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  23. Clever card, Sue, like the floating elements in the sections of the shadow box, also of course the lovely floral embellishment. The poppies have arrived!
Lorraine F - sympathy on the loss of your friend, cancer such a cruel disease.
Lynda - so very sorry that you have lost your treasured Annie, know how you are feeling.
Tracy, hope the flat clearing goes okay - a difficult job. Had to do it when my Mum came to live with us when she could no longer cope. She'd been there (house) all her life - at that point 90 years, and her mother before her. You can imagine.... and she just turned her back on everything so we had to decide what to bring (including six dolls houses!) and the rest went via a house clearance firm. It was awful. Keep the treasures and the memories. Great what you have decided re your Dad's ashes.
Elaine - hope the cat problems are solved now.
    Hugs all round.

Iced towels are at the ready for later.they are wonderful. For other heat hating Wilsonettes take small hand towel, wet it and ring it out well. Fold it up and put in a plastic bag and seal it. Pop in freezer. When frozen remove from bag and place on head, found neck, legs, arms etc. They re bliss when your suffering with the heat. I even take them go!fing on hot days! Stay cool all

I've recently been making shadow boxes with heavy weight cardstock and they're a right pain to do. All the scoring confuses me LOL.

  107. Good evening Sue and the wilsonettes,
Oh what a lovely card Sue that could be even for those pesky people that also need a card or two. I don't have any of todays dies but it doesn't stop me from admiring from a far. The colours are good together and with the hint of black just giving it that bit of pop, lovely.
Oh well i don't know where ever you all are today but up here at the Ochil Hills we have had a glorious day where the heat has been sweltering, who needs abroad when you sometimes get this lovely weather on our beautiful doorstep, or at least mine is with my bonnie hills in front of me each day. I have had Harry the monster this morning before nursery, so we have been out on the swing with our hats on and sun cream although the white look didn't last for long as it melted in to his skin within 5 minutes of it going on but at least i know he was well protected even if his mother did think i had went over the top slightly, although you would think she would know better as i used to do the same to her and Rory and then let the sun try it's hardest to get through the snowman look. Thank goodness for nursery as he is trying to run before we can let go off granny's fingers, but i don't think it is going to be that much longer until he realises that he's actually walking by himself and doesn't need me any more. He was sharing in his Uncle Rory's blueberry muffin milkshake this morning and some of Tia's icecream mousses after that. Tia gave him such a look as if to say "that's mine you're eating", this is of course after she has eaten her own one. So fridge stocked up with milk again, icecream in the freezer and fresh bread and a salad for tonights dinner.
Poor Mick Tina, as it's hard enough when you're moving around to keep cool but when you're that bit hampered and are sort of stuck in the one place you feel as if you will need peeled off the seat and with the weather being hot, it won't do much for Mick's appetite either and just when you thought you were on the winning side for a change. I hope that he has a better day tomorrow flower, maybe try cooling down in a shower it might just help that wee bit or get him a basin of cold water and a face cloth to cool him down a bit. I'm sending down some jet stream hugs so they should get to him nice and cool for that hug. x
Lynda, i'm sorry you have lost your little "girl" Annie, Bambi will miss her so much as well. You have done all you could for her and it was just her time to go but that doesn't help you much i know, so i send some hugs down your way flower just to let y ou know i'm thinking of you.
Elaine, i promise not to say a word to upstairs but i'm so glad that you have been given two disturb free nights as it should be. It's nice to hear that Andrew has been oh so much better feeling as he could be doing with some of that too.
Lorraine, sending hugs down to you with my thoughts and prayers flower, i'm sorry to read about the passing off your friend but that cruel disease as no thought for anyone young or old.
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil)

  108. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

This card is simply sublime, I absolutely love the design and fantastic dies used to create it. I particularly love the background concept with the triple happy birthday die repeatedly cut before being covered in vellum. The wisteria card gives just enough emphasis to the lettering without it overpowering the foreground. Great usage of the shadow box die, really shows it's versatility and ability to create a totally different look. The poppy dies are surely a must have for any crafter interested in creating their own floral embellishments, they are stunning in the wisteria colour and really pop from the card. I am so excited to have all these dies and will definitely "borrow" your idea so Thankyou for the opportunity to look a far better card maker than I probably am:-)
Like most of the country it's been sweltering in Stirling today, I bravely...or foolishly....attempted to sunbathe but had to give up after a couple of hours of sweating profusely.....which i never do...and retreat back inside the house. 28 C is a tad too hot so I really feel for those further south who had to tolerate much higher temperatures....in saying that, I'd much rather have the sun and heat as opposed to the rain:-) Not good weather for our furry four paws, haven't seen Darcey barely all day and no doubt the dirty stop out will expect to stay outside all night too! Back to normality tomorrow seemingly, ie rain:-(
Linda, I'm so sorry to hear about Annie but what you did for her was kinder in the long run because she was clearly struggling. It's so hard for us to part with our babies, my heart goes out to you, try to focus on all the years of love and companionship she gave you, it may help with her loss. Sending comforting hugsxxxx
Tracy, thinking of you as you have the hard task of going through your Dads belongings. I still find it hard looking at anything associated with my Dad so goodness knows how you must be feeling sweetie, it's the hardest part of losing someone we love. Sending comforting hugs to you and your sister tooxxx
Tina, hope the heat breaks soon so that Mick can feel more comfortable again.
Pat, how lovely that you got the chance to spoil Sarah with her other gran, she deserves it after the upheaval of the past couple of months. Glad you had a nice time.
Yvonne, don't know if you'll manage to read this at some point but hope you enjoy your pre birthday treat tonight, a visit to the theatre sounds almost civilised for you:-)
Cuddles to all my blog buddies, hope you're enjoying the sunshine and find a bit of shadexxxx

    Crafty hugs
