Good Sunday morning all! Today's card is a bit of an experiment for me, but I rather liked the striking way it came out. I used a piece of acetate and covered it with a sticky adhesive sheet. I peeled the backing paper off and added some Persian Dawn Gilding Flakes to it,but I did not cover the entire piece. I left areas quite open on it. I sprayed the piece with adhesive glue then backed it with a piece of black card to add depth to it. I trimmed it then matted it with a piece of coconut white card and a thin black mat. I cut two of the Australian Borders out of black card and glued them to the sides of the card. I stamped a sentiment (from the Cr. Exp. clear stamp set called Amazing Sentiments)using a Black Archival ink pad, then cut the inside of the Australian Background to create a frame for it. I backed the frame with a white piece then added it over the sentiment and trimmed away the excess. I added to the centre of the card with mounting foam. I completed the card with a white pierced mat, a thin black mat and another white layer. The finished dimensions are 8" x 8" in size.

Good morning Sue and crafters all,
Happy May Day
what a striking card, the gilding flakes on acetate makes interesting backgrounds - you could add some midnight snow to the sticky areas not covered by the flakes to make it ping a bit more!!!!!
Back to this card, makes a lovely men's card with the black backing.
Love and crafty hugs

Dramatic Sunday Smiles coming your way Sue. By dramatic I mean the background to this striking card. How come ALL your experiments look amazing and mine end up in the recycled paper bin ?! Lol. I think you must have the nack or am I stating the obvious there. I locked my guilding flakes away until a few weeks ago, we didn't get on somehow, then just before watching your live show from AP on tv I decided to re-instate our relationship but forgot the golden rule about letting the glue 'stand' until it lost its blue tinge so ended up with big silver globs of flakes on limp sopping wet card lol what a good job it was only cheap card and cheap brand flakes (see what I mean about disastrous experiments lol) although you can say I learnt a very important lesson by being a tv viewer that day as you injected some sense back into a very dumb crafter, so I then invested in two pots of beautiful good quality CE flakes, I already own some acetate and I have a post it note at eye level above my craft table to remind me of the flake & glitter glue golden rule ! So after going round the houses and writting a boring essay, what I'm trying to say is I may have a play at your experiment confidence allowing that is, and see if it ends up in the bin or on a piece of card 😊
I will send my congrats to all comment winners and add that Sunset bay sounds like a place I'd love to be today instead of frosty Lancashire - when will this cold weather stop !!!
Hoping you have a lovely day Sue whatever your plans xx
Hi Sue
Striking background never tried using guilding flakes, maybe one day I'll try

Striking card today Sue. You're experiment turned out well. Congratulations to winners. JJxx
Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, wow this card certainly does look effective, I will have to have a try of this when I feel better.
Pam: Clinic went well, although they said it is going to be a long process as I had a serious infection in the wound, don't ask me how, but they said it is extremely common with gyni abdominal surgery. Got another 2 weeks of appointments then am away for a few days so they will give me dressings to take with me, then we will see how we go from there. They are extremely kind at the clinic, lots of people run down the NHS but these nurses are brilliant.
Congratulations to all the winners, enjoy your prize.
Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx
Wow, Sue, a truly volcanic explosion of colour! Think this experiment went very well and it's made a striking background.

Very dramatic and effective card, its lovely.
Congrats to the winners, luv jxxx
Hi Sue
A striking card. Yesterday I tried using gilding flakes for the first time. I watched your Creative Expressions YouTube video first and then cut the butterfly striplet for my test piece. It was successful, but terrifying at first as the gilding flakes seemed to have a life of their own. Now I can plan a special card for my friend's 60th birthday using the flakes.
What a great way to use gilding flakes. It is something that could be done when you are running low on flakes and it will still look great... who'd of thought it.
Thanks once again for the inspiration to try something different.

Morning sue and crafty friends.
I really love how this has turned out. Def one for the guys I think. I too struggle with blooming guilding flakes maybe sometime I'll be brave an get them out again. Lol.
Well ladies Graeme had an amazing time yesterday. The instructors made it all look so easy from doin hand brake turns round corners to doin donut circles and also figure of eights round the cones then it was as if the cars were almost dancing round the track with each other I have to say it looked amazing but scary.
When it came to Graeme's turn he said himself it wasn't as easy as it looked but he had fun trying! When it came to the end they got to go with the instructors racing around the track as if to say this is the way it's to be done.lol
Plus we were asked if we wanted a quickie round the track only £15. I'm like errrrr NO I might conk out with a heart attack! Lol although I have to admit it did look like fun
Love to all xx
another great card ,stricking ,Laura O
Hello Sue
A really striking card this morning and I can't wait to have a go with my gilding flakes to see how mine turns out!!
The Australian border and the inner frame from the Australian background die really add the finishing touch to your lovely background!
Lesley S x
Good morning Sue, lovely effect and very striking - that seems to be the word of the day today! Love from Jackie xx
Hi Sue, your experiment turned out really well and one I think I will try. The overall effect is a bit dark for me so I will have to see what other colours will suit this technique, I'm thinking maybe deep red with silver flakes. I have the Australian background so if all else fails I can at least create the sentiment :-)
Congratulations to this week's comment game winners, enjoy your prizes.
Frances
That background is really striking!
Morning Sue, well, it looks as if the gilding flakes will be joining the glitter residue on my floor when I give this card a whirl. Hopefully the adhesive sheet will contain them! Lovely card though. Hugs. xxx. Pauline A
This is lovely Sue! It works really well with the black and looks like expensive marble! What it would look like as a kitchen work top!! Wow
Big hug

Good morning Sue and the Wilsonettes,
Sue although not a me card this is definitely one i would try for those awkward people in our lives, namely some men as it is so dramatic in colour and design they cannot fail to see it as their sort of colours. I think you are becoming more Scottish today with only using a few of your gilding flakes and letting the black card do the rest thus saving some flakes, lol.
Congratulations to all our lucky winners this week, i hope that you thoroughly enjoy your prize when it arrives.
June flower, i'm sorry that you are going through a long healing process with your wound but the changing of the dressings is the essential part and i am so glad that you found nurses that are in the job because they want to be and not because it's just a job. Kirsten has a some nurses working with her that just shouldn't be in the job, where as she really wants to turn someone around from being ill to living their life to the full again. Sometimes all a patient needs is that friendly face knowing that they are doing all that they can to help them. Although Kirsten is only 23 her mentors when she was a student invariable were old school, so she learned old fashioned values and decorum. She went from having an old fashioned Mum to having old fashioned values on what was important and she has been commented on by patients and their families for just how gentle, caring and thoughtful a nurse she is, which i am proud off. You have a lovely wee holiday when you go flower and enjoy it, sending hugs your way flower.
Tracy, i'm so glad that your Graeme had such fun yesterday and that you enjoyed seeing him having it. It's great fun going around the track honest but that could be because i have known that sort of driving since i was wee with my big cousins and my Daddy. He was a mechanic so i was down watching him on a frequent basis although i wasn't allowed to become a car mechanic as it would get my hands dirty so that is why i was a hairdresser as you don't get dirty hands with oil, only with tints and semi permenants, lol. It's great to see their faces when they are getting to do something that they can only dream off, but i wouldn't like the repair bill for the tyres, brakes and fuel somehow. I hope you have a good day down your way as we are having drizzle, the clouds have pinched my hills again totally so it's like Brigadoon here today, sending you hugs anyway flower just to keep your spirits up.
Well that's me so i will wish you all a good day hopefully and sending hugs to all that need or could do with them
love and crafty hugs

Hello Sue.
Stunning, I love it. I like the idea of leaving gaps in the guilding flakes and mounting on a mat. Has given me ideas of how it may look with other colour combinations, will have to try. Thanks for sharing.

I love this card, gilding flakes terrify me but after seeing this card I am going to give it another try.
The operative word here is 'stunning'. What a background! Love it. Am I going to try it? You bet!
I agree that it is perfect for a man's card.
Teresa
Good afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!
What a stunning creation to greet me on a damp yet sunnyish Sunday. The colours are so rich and opulent, the design so simple yet supremely effective. Black, not everybody's colour of choice but I love it's dramatic impact and incorporate it in many of my favourite cards. You have combined this drama with the rich, expensive shades of gold to stunning effect, and what a great idea using the black card as a mount for the sparsely covered acetate, genius! I love your black based cards Sue, keep them coming, I can't get enough, though I agree that this concept would work with a variety of colours. I only have silver dominated flakes so I will really have to get some richer golden tones because the effect is breathtaking.
Who can believe that it's May already......and the snow is still falling! It's my birthday in 18 days and it has NEVER snowed, well, this year who knows? Hope you all have a lovely Bank holiday regardless of where you are or what you're doing. I'll be putting my feet up watching the snooker final I think, I used to watch it voraciously in the days of Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White.....even meeting them at one point....but in recent years there is always so much to do and see that I never took the time. I've rediscovered the joys and all thoughts of housework and those six birthday cards I've got to rustle up have faded into the background:-)
It's not the warmest of spring days and I'm sitting with the heating on full blast trying to keep a normal body temp because the window is currently wide open for Brodies convenience...we've given in to the pressure and let him out on his own of a morning and afternoon and he is steadily losing weight as a result:-)..... Just a shame about the sticky willies and mucky paws though!
June, so sorry to hear that you've been suffering with your wound but it sounds like you're in good hands, the NHS is a marvellous institution when run with care and efficiency. Hope it clears up soon and you can finally cease to rattle with every move:-)
Gloria, hope you had a lovely day yesterday and that the weather was kind enough for you, how's the hangover this afternoon?:-)
Theresa, thanks for thinking about me and Yvonne.....both of us would have loved a cheeky little holiday but I think the sophistication required for a cruise would find Yvonne falling well short, Ibiza is more her style, a lager fuelled dance fest and a desperate attempt to cling on to her youth:-) but seriously, Yvonne is having a challenging time just now but I will pass on your kind thoughts when I next get a chance to speak with her. Hope you are we'll honey, thinking of youxxxxx

Hi Sue
What a stunning card, the black looking through the flake looks a bit like a bronzite stone under a zoom lens! I love dark colours, black especially with metallics. Your cards last few days have all been stunning. Hope you're OK and having a lovely long bank holiday weekend, hugs xxx
June, I wish so much you didn't have to cope with an infection after your surgery. I'm glad the nurses have given you confidence so you can change your dressing. I hope a nice holiday weekend will make all the difference but I have everything crossed that you'll heal soon, hugs xxx
Tracy, it sounds like you and your hubby had a fun time, hope you're feeling good, hugs xxx
Norah, Kirsten sounds like a wonderful nurse, there's a lot to be said for good old fashioned values, hugs xxx
Lynda, Billy sends fluffy cuddles and there's hugs from me xxx
Marg, your message means such a lot. Very rough week this week. Trying to get this done while I can still see straight! Hugs and hope you're well xxx
Laine, Yvonne, Lorraine- hope you ladies aren't suffering too much, hugs xxx
Yup, rough one of late. Going to watch 2nd half of football laying down and hope that settles head enough to do something/anything later. Plan is to have tea with Mr W's parents tomorrow so I got to try and be in a good enough state to go. Will wear me out as access isn't the best so if I'm offline after don't be concerned.
Wishing everyone a lovely bank holiday even with the rain forecast tomorrow- I suggest you stay in and Craft ;-) sending hugs to all of you and there's plenty extra if you need them.
Take care, T x

What a great way to be sparing with the gilding flakes but still have a dramatic effect. Another one on the agenda to try. I wonder if you get the same effect if you go pastel or Mirri card....now there's a thought! Thanks Sue
Hi Sue
Very dramatic card today, and very rich. I like the Australian dies a lot.
Love Helen xxx
Good Evening, Sue,
Good evening everyone. Here is your laugh for the day...I'm feeling REALLY stupid right now as I've been sitting here saying to myself that if Sue has left some areas blank on the sticky sheet, it will get ruined when it's mounted onto the card as the 'bare' bits will still get sticky!!
Okay, I know that the 'top' side was the one that was sprayed and because it's acetate, the back side became the front side...be nice to me, I've had a trying day battling technology and failing miserably lol.
Anyway, after all that...I want to try this right away and if I can find my worktop in the craft room...I'll give it a go. I'm praying for another day of rain tomorrow so that I can get in there and sort it out after the battle of today :). At last I've got some black card that I can use so I've really got no excuse to try and make something wonderful...okat, passable anyway lol.
Enjoy the rest of the evening.
Bejay xx
Hi Sue, this card is stunning, I will have to try this technique just makes the gilding flakes pop with that bit of black between it.xx

Striking, stunning & dramatic are indeed great adjectives for this fabulous card! I'm always so drawn to black backgrounds or accents, there's something about it that just adds richness & depth that appeals to me every time. That said, I love white on white too! Oh heck, what am I saying? There's never been a Sue creation I didn't like lol! Anyway, your experiment was a huge success!
I have been away from this marvelous blog for so long and I miss it (the beautiful cards & beautiful people) greatly. I've only been able to take a quick peek a couple times in the last 4-5 months. The allotment of characters is not enough to explain my absence (nor would I want to put everyone through the tedium!). Let's just say it's been very challenging and I'm still slowly clawing my way out. My preference of daily involvement in the blog is not likely any time soon, but hopefully I'll be able to check in a little more frequently. Please know that I think of you often & fondly (collectively, and those with whom I feel a special bond- i think you know who you are :) I miss you!

Such a different card Sue, I am still trying to decide if I like the colors!!!
Love the design of this card though the black is not for me. I'm visualising dark brown which I like using with the Persian Dawn gilding flakes.
Congratulations to the winners.
Take care everyone.
Beautiful card.
Gilding flakes are always a winner, and this one is interesting as you've not covered the entire piece. Lovely xx
