Happiest Of Birthdays

Hello crafters!  Thought I would show you a pretty black and white number featuring the New Zealand Background die today.  I started by cutting it out of coconut white card and using the inside cutting die to make it into an aperture.  I cut it in half and took a bit out of the middle of it, then reassembled it to make it a square.  I used up a bunch of my small pieces of sticky adhesive sheets and placed them over the heart flower cut outs only and rubbed Midnight Snow into it from the front.  I added mounting foam to the back to raise it for dimension.  Next I used the Regal Checkerboard embossing folder and embossed a piece of coconut white card for texture.  I added it behind the opening of the aperture.  I stamped my sentiment and added a frame over it that I cut out of black card using the inner cutting dies from the Background and the Wellington die.  I added it to the centre of the card with foam.  Next I cut a Sweetheart flower in white and added the matching black edge to it.  I seated it on the side of the card with some thin black satin ribbon and Lace Edged leaves cut out of white card.  I added a small butterfly from the Thank you Circle to the other side to cover the join area in the background.  I matted that piece on to a larger piece with a Midnight Snow edge added to sticky tape.  The card was then completed with a white pierced mat, a thin black mat and another white mat layer.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  7 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  8. Morning Sue. A lovely start to our crafting week with a birthday card that would stay on display from one birthday to the next. Kitty, it's quite amazing where our illusive bits turn up ! I've lost so much weight due to being unwell that some jeans now drag if I don't turn the bottoms up !! I've found petals, leaves, and quite a few stray tiny alpha does in my jeans, I've learnt to look there first before emptying the room and putting crime scene tape up at the door lol happy hunting.

And a happy Monday to you Sue xx

  88. Hello Sue!
Wow, I really love this gorgeous card! You have used two of my favourite dies, the New Zealand background and the Sweetheart flowers.
Unfortunately, like Kitty, I have "mislaid" two of the dies from the Sweetheart set so having searched and searched for a few weeks I fear I am going to splash out and buy another set. It is my own fault as I remember not putting them away after using them the last time! No doubt they will turn up once I have bought them again!
I think your technique of trimming your dies to make a different shape so useful as I am going through a phase, like Crewe Trish, of making square cards. The New Zealand backround looks great made up with so may different colours, too!
I am looking forward to making a Wedding Card this afternoon ready for an imminent family Wedding, so many lovely dies it is going to be so hard to choose which ones to use!

I cut this die out yesterday !!! It's really lovely I may just make it into a square card! Thank you Sue - your timing is brilliant! I love the black and white - beautiful!
Kitty - you may get a lot of Top Tips R Us today as we have all been in that position more than once! My tip is - pull one leg of a pair of tights over the vacuum cleaner hose then use it normally under the bed! It will still suck items up but they won't go through the tights into the cleaner! It's a good idea for when something small and precious gets lost! I do hope you find it!! PS - you aren't meant to wear the tights at the time!! Lol.
I'd better go! Thanks Sue, xxxx

  138. Hi Sue

What a stunning card, I love monochrome and chopping up dies so this is definitely a card that appeals to me. It makes me smile seeing your butterflies and flowers over the cut line, you hide things with them as a design feature, I use them to hide unintended design features, or "c*ck ups" as they are otherwise known! Hugs from the Billy beast and I xxx

June, hope you're getting better, special hugs xxx

Special hugs to all who are feeling ill or under a cloud, hope things look brighter soon xxx

Belated congratulations to the weekends winners xxx

Lynda, Billy sends you a fluffy cuddle and pass hugs to your fur and feather family, hugs from me too xxx

Had a seriously wobbly weekend and after a busy day today I'm ready for an early night, really feel the crafty withdrawal so hoping some good sleep will allow me some playtime this week. Wishing everyone a great day for Tuesday, hugs for everyone with plenty extra for those who need one,

  143. Hi Sue. Ooooh this is so gorgeous !!! I really, really love the New Zeland Collection. I had to hold back on my spending at Alley Palley especially so I could buy the New Zeland Collection on Hochanda because I love it all so much !!! All the die sets are fab and the background set is no exception. I also have the sweetheart flowers and they go with it beautifully !!! I love your black and white colour combo and the black glitter. I really must get some as I don't have any black glitter in my crafty stash at the moment. I love how you have made the background die into a square. Very clever of you Sue, and then to cover over the joins with butterflies and flowers is the perfect answer to the problem of hiding the joins. I think it is very classy and elegant. Thank you Sue for all your hard work and for bringing us another fab idea to do with our rectangular shaped dies. Sending you lots of love and hugs today from Tres x x x

Sending love to everyone from Tres x x x

  150. Lovely design. The black isn't for me but I'm sure it will look good in other colour combos. The New Zealand background is on my ever-lengthening wish list.
Kitty, I hope you find your die.
