Hello there my crafty friends! Today's card showcases the Heated Pearl technique. This is a really great technique to use when making those pesky male cards as it has a decidedly masculine feel to it" You need to start with a piece of gloss black card for the optimal effects. Spread Cosmic dries clear glue over the area that you would like to cover. Make sure that it is filled in and there are no holes showing, but it doesn't need to be too thick, just enough to cover well. Tap mica powder all over the area. I used the colours from the metallic set of powders so gold, silver, bronze, copper. Using an old paint brush, lightly tamp the powder into the glue so it won't fly away when heated. Next, turn your heat tool on and allow it to get very warmed up, then heat the glue. It will start to bubble and rise and fall. This process will take a while, but you need to keep heating it until it stops bubbling, probably about five minutes, depending on the size of the area you want to cover. Allow it to cool well before touching. The results are a very textural sort of background. I created a stair stepped, layered frame using the Double pierced Noble Squares and added it over my heated pearl background. I stamped my sentiment then cut it out with the oval from the a Zoe die and added a gold edge with a paint pen. Then I cut the Zoe die in white to seat it on and placed it in the centre of the card, allowing a good deal of my background to show from behind. The card was then completed using my usual pierced layer, and mats. The finished dimensions are 8" x 8" in size. All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue,
Love the fabulous texture of this background, I have tried something similar with an aged look embossing powder. I will definitely be having a go at this.
Thanks for sharing,
Heather
Stunning card Sue, I love the effect of the mica powders. I even like the colours yet I would never make a card using those colours normally! :) Like a lot of us I hate making male cards, do you suppose the men in my life would notice if they all got cards like this one??? :)
Paula x
(WelshPaula)
Love the background Sue, and the noble squares.
Stunning card Sue, it looks very classy maybe due to its simplicity. Yes, you are right, this is an excellent technique for those male cards, but I am sure that it would look good for a ladies card if you changed the colours to maybe pinks and lilacs. I must try it out
Lisbeth
Hi Sue,
It's a stunner of a card. I have a male card to make. I'll experiment with some PVA glue I've had for ages and don't use any longer since discovering Cosmic Shimmer glue.

Brilliant background and as you say would be great for gents cards. Although different colours could make it so feminine

Good morning to the lovely Sue and the happy band of Wilsonettes,
This looks so much like a picture frame to me Sue and with molten metals making up the design. This is a great card for men or for ladies who are not into the frilly life. There is an artist that my friend across the road has canvases of and it is made up of textured molten metals that are moved into shape by wee trowels. very modern but how your card so much reminds me off them. Thank you Sue for giving us new looks and different ideas that make such different and stylish cards. I hope that you are keeping your self as upbeat and remembering happy memories of your lovely wee mum. It's the happy things and daft things that my family did throughout the years that is keeping me going i know that flower but i hope that you can get back to those times that you had to keep you going as well. Take care dear friend and i'm sending hugs to keep you company.
Well we have a lovely day up here at the Ochil hills today if a tad on the cold side and the hills are shivering as a fine dusting of snow has landed on them and refuses to go away. I would love to get washing out on the rope but it would have no chance in drying with it being so cold so it's enjoying the outside from here in my dinningroom today i think. I hope that what ever you have planned for today that it is a good day wherever you are with hugs being sent to our lovely Tracy who i hope is feeling a bit better this morning and to all the other Wilsonettes that need them or just could do with one, they are there for the taking.
Love and crafty hugs

Hi Sue,
Brilliant idea, will certainly give it a go.
Much love,
Shirley T.
Hi Sue, a beautiful card. The effect you have created is really different and lovely.
Beautiful card Sue.
Stunning card. Love the background. Must give it a try.
WOW...that's more than a bit stunning, Sue! For once I've got all the 'ingredients' to give this a try. It's certainly worth heating for 5 minutes to get such a wonderful result. I agree, great for a 'masculine' card and all that's needed to turn it feminine would be to use different colours instead of the metallic. Love it!!
Bejay xx
Hi Sue,
Great card, and a great technique, will have to give this ago.
Take care.

June Smith, I am sorry to hear you have a lot on your mind. If it helps please share either way have some hugs and I hope all is resolved soon.
Myra, yes Caramac is still made :) I really like it so I will have to get some now I have to avoid ordinary chocolate.
Jan in LI, I hope the root canal work wasn't too awful my dear.
Tracy, you are bound to find the treatment tiring but I hope you feel better today. Hugs.
Linda N, I hope you are being sensible with cutting back on your meds and not trying to do too much at a time. I wish you all the best though as it does get you down having to take so much.
Wheely, I hope the migraines are giving you a break. Huggles.
Yvonne G, so sorry to hear about your friends husband. So young too, that's very sad.
Norah, thank you so much for your lovely descriptive posts. I look forward to reading them each day. I hope your husband's family settle down now.
Finally a day off from appointments so I want to take it easy today. I will do some bits of housework but will not go too mad.
Wishing good things to all xxx
Afternoon Sue, wow a gorgeous masculine card that could be made feminine too with a change if colours, but so nice to have so much inspiration lately for men, and a technique I haven't seen before nor have many others from what I have briefly glimpsed on today's comments. Hope you are keeping well, big hugs xxx

Good afternoon dearest sue and her crafty crew!
What a striking card, but why waste it on a man because he simply wouldn't appreciate it:-) I think I remember a demo of this fabulous technique but my memory is Swiss cheese I'm afraid so I'm extremely grateful that you have kindly refreshed our memories. The close ups of the mica background are stunning, I just adore the bubbly texture and rich colours, it would be equally gorgeous in the Patel tones that I have in my stash I think, I'll definitely be giving this a go! I really have to invest in the noble squares, they create a stunning frame for the focal elements of a card. Thanks for yet more inspiration from a true masterxxx
Well, we are enjoying our fair share of sunshine the past few days in Stirling and my mood has been beneficially effected as a result:-) I'm counting the days to when the clocks go forward, not long now and Spring will have sprung!
I'm in a much better frame of mind, despite my seizures this week....stress over my Dads condition.....because my Dad is holding his own despite the strokes, heart attack, pneumonia and flu that he has had to contend with. He is now out of the high dependency unit and on a normal ward which is great so fingers crossed he'll be fit enough to go to the Rehabilition Unit soon.
I've arranged to go to a friends for a few cheeky wee drinks tomorrow night which, given my performance at New Year could be a recipe for disaster:-) I'll make sure I line my stomach this time and no more shots of malt whiskey for me I think....I've only just gotten over the last hangover so I'm not looking forward to this one-I'm really showing my age now, thinking about the after effects rather than the party:-)
Yvonne, I'm so sorry to hear about your friends loss, such a young age to pass which makes the shock and grief that much harder. This year has had so many losses so far I do hope the trend ends soon:-( I hope you are well though my dear, what a shame that Margorie has moved but she's in the best place to progress I guess. Take care sweetiexxx
Linda, be careful, cutting your meds isn't an easy thing to do but I hope you feel better for it soonxxx
Wheely, hope that migraine has migratedxxx
June, I hope that you are ok, I know how hard it is too rest when your mind just won't slow down, I hope that everything is resolved soon for youxxx
Extra cuddles to Beth, deb c, Maria, Lorraine,Tracy, Melody, Jan, Rebecca and Pam, with plenty in reserve to go round anyone else in needxxx

Evening Sue
I love the look of this technique and it will look unique every time. Must give this a go. Sometimes making a mess is such fun. Sending you love and hugs x
Thank you everyone for your good wishes. There are so many of you and it is so touching to know you are thinking of me. Feeling incredibly emotional. My friend losing her husband has evoked strong feelings of when my partner Steve died as he was only 49. Sometimes life stinks doesn't it?!!
I am going to my godson's 18th birthday party tomorrow evening with the boys - it is a fancy dress party and Jake is going shopping tomorrow for costumes. I am letting him choose something for me - probably not the best decision I have made but I am sure it will cause great hilarity. Fun, frolics and laughter is definitely going to be a tonic. Alcoholic beverages will not be the order of the day and I think that other members of this blog who shall remain nameless would be wise to follow my example. When one's behaviour leaves a lot to be desired when sober then partaking in a wee tipple is certainly not recommended - wouldn't you agree LAINE?!!! x
Sending love to everyone - please give those people you love extra hugs. I think we are in for a chilly weekend so stay warm.
Take care

This bubble effect is one of those "must try". I love the colors but these would change as to your preference.
Beautiful sue, I'm going to give this a go, crafty hugs Julie laz xxxx
Hi Sue,
This would be a perfect card for my son's birthday next month, just hope I can get in the right frame of mind to get back in my craft room. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you for your concern ladies. I am doing the weaning off under the doctor, well the pregablin anyway the other is tramadol which I've basically done myself but can't get completely off that and I have spoken to the doctor about. I've just got my appointment through for the pain clinic so will see what the specialist at The Walton Centre say.
Lorraine it sounds like you've been having a bit of a rough time lately I hope you feel much better soon x
Laine I hope you have a lovely time at your friends you deserve it after recent events. Fingers crossed for your Dad, he's had such a lot to contend with I hope he can find the strength to pull through. Good luck with putting your babies on a diet it sounds like it will be just as hard for you to do as it is for them, how are you supposed to deny such cute faces their treats?
Yvonne how awful for your friend my condolences to her with a big hug. The party sounds like fun can't wait to find out what costume your son picks for you. I hope you have a fab time you deserve it too, you and Laine do make me laugh with your remarks to each other so thanks for that x
Norah your views sound so beautiful, will have to Google to see what you see.
Tracy so glad your nearly at the end of your treatment you're an inspiration x
Hugs to all

Fantastic technique. Lots of male cards to make so I think I'll give this a try if only I can find those mica powders, though I'll substitute dark brown card for the black on the frame.
Laine, pleased the news of your dad is more encouraging.
Take care everyone.
