Christmas Double Days

Hi there my crafty friends!  A few more of these double days still until the big day is upon us, not long now.  The first card showcases one of my favourite techniques: the shaving foam technique.  I have used  a Chipped Sapphire distress reinker dripped on to the shaving foam for this one.  I won't go into detail here, but there are several Youtube videos showing this as well as a step by step tutorial at the top of my blog if you haven't seen it.  Once I finished the marbling part of this, I dried and covered the piece with a sticky adhesive sheet, then micro beaded it for additional texture.  I matted it with French Navy card.  I cut a smaller piece of navy card and matted it with white for my focal element.  I cut all the pieces of my Snowflake die set and layered them up.  For the middle snowflake, I sprayed it with glue and glittered it for a touch of bling.  I added my usual mats and layers and flatback pearls to the corners and centre of the snowflake.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x  7 1/4" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

Card number two was a bit of an experiment.  I used a piece of coconut white card and spread various shades of sparkle texture paste on it.  I used the ocean spray, periwinkle, lilac blush and polar white and allowed it to dry overnight.  Once dry, I ran it through the GC on the emboss setting to flatten it out.  I cut the Snowflake background die and used the oval die to cut an aperture into the centre of the background too.  I added a thin frame around the opening using the different sized ovals in the set.  I added mounting foam then placed it over the sparkle texture paste background.   I stamped my sentiment and cut it with the Pierced flags set.  I added it across the opening and cut a couple of Filigree Poinsettias out of vellum to add as accents. I seated the flowers on some white tulle and a bow tied from various matching shades of thin satin ribbon.  The card was finished with a white on white mat with piercing.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/4" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Two equally stunning cards, with beautiful techniques to learn. No favourites for me, love them both.

Warm thoughts to Melody, Francis, Tracy, June and all in discomfort or pain.

Been laid up for a couple of days with horrendous headache due to my neighbours ongoing banging, clattering, drilling and hammering. They did say a month ago they were having rewiring done in their lounge and bedroom. I have since seen ceiling and floor boards flying through the windows so I suspect the work has grown into a larger job. As they have emptied the rooms completely, the noise echoes right through the walls and throughout my house. Amidst all this, I suffered my first bilious attack for many many years which has left me very weak and debilitated.
I've finished moaning now, there are many worse off than me, I am so grateful to wake each morning knowing I am alive.
    Love & hugs

  60. Hi Sue
    Missed a couple of days!
Back now though - and I tried the shaving foam technique once - I have to say that I definitely got a very "different" result - Taffy thought it would be a really good idea if she stepped into the foam to see what it was - I thought the smell would put her off and it was safe to leave it on the table for a minute while I put the kettle on - but no - my cat was not put off at all! She got in there and had a great time - I on the other hand did not so much - as I had to get her out and wash her paws. She was not happy with me (and that's putting it mildly) I'm just glad she didn't sit down in it
I like both of these cards and the texture past one in particular - I don't know how you think of these things!!

  133. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Not many two for one Fridays left now, what a shame because I really love comparing the styles, designs and techniques. It's really kept me motivated to wade through the mountain of cards needed at this time of year, and given me plenty of inspiration along the way.
The first card is beautiful in its simplicity, I love the shaving foam technique, it adds such texture- I have never tried it personally but you have persuaded me to give it a go. The focal snowflake is simply stunning and all the embellishment this card needs.
Well, card number two is a winner in my eyes, texture paste is my current favourite medium and I love what you have done with it in this instance, the colours are stunning- great tip on flattening the card again after application, it can warp quite badly, I sometimes put it between some heavy books. I'm loving the snowflake background die, it's very effective and stunning in its detail and the filigree poinsettia are the perfect accent. This card appeals to me more simply because I like the colour palette and adore texture paste.
The weather is wild in Stirling today, had to venture out for a manicure, much to my displeasure- being less than six stones 80 mph gusts aren't conducive to a feeling of safety and security on your feet:-) Totally bored with this weather now, you're going to wish that you'd stayed in sunny Florida Sue believe me, pack a sou'wester and wellies! Darceys afraid to go outside to do the toilet...hardly surprising!..and keeps going to the door, only to think better of it- she refuses to use a litter tray, the poor soul, I'm a little concerned that she'll get blown away though, I should attach weights to her ankles:-)
I have a hospital appointment for an ECG tomorrow- I can't get used to Saturday clinics, it just feels weird but luckily I don't have to rely on an ambulance, my brothers going to take me so no long waits for transport which is a relief, cos it can add hours onto the time your away which can be really tiring.
Wishing all my blog buddies a lovely weekend whatever your plans are, special hugs to Melody, Francis, Molly, Tracy, Wheely Bad, June, Lorraine F and anyone under the weather or suffering. Cuddles to Yvonne, Beth, Rebecca, Saba, Maria, Linda, Theresa, Jan and anyone in need of a hugxxx
Sorry I'm not my usual chipper self, feeling a little tired tonight, just need an early night methinksxx

    Love and crafty hugs

  135. Beautiful cards Sue. The first one is so striking with that vibrant background, such a lovely colour. I love the ides of using different texture pastes to create a multi coloured piece of card, very clever and really simple too. The dies are so pretty and the end result is a lovely feminine card.
