Letterpressed and Sparkled

Hi bloggers!  Letterpressing is a great way to add colour to a background.  It can be either bold or subtle, as I have chosen to do in this card, but it is sure to add so much interest to your cards.  The video will walk you through the letterpressing technique.

Please do not forget to tune in at 8pm today (and five more hours tomorrow too) to see John Lockwood's launch shows on Hochanda TV.  John will be showcasing some of my die designs and he always does such lovely demos too!  I can't wait!  It's on Freeview channel 39, Sky channel 663 and Freesat channel 822 and also on IPTV on the Hochanda website!!

  The finished dimensions are
7" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  10. Hi Sue.
Beautiful. It looks so summery with the colour palet you chose (could have done with the birds in the background just as a finishing touch) does anyone else ever pick up the bird song on some of the video's ? I heard it on last weeks and the week before) - im not going mad, honest, although you would probably think so as Ive tried letterpressing on one occassion and I messed it up ! I tried it with perfect medium not ink so maybe I should try again but as you have done Sue on this beautiful card. Unfortunatly I dont own any of these dies or any 'to die for' stamps but the dies are on an A4 size sheet of paper under the 'Not Got Yet' heading which resides in Mr L's drawer ready for birthday, anniversary etc.
Will be recording the show's tonight just incase there is too much selling talk then I can FF to the important thing like sample's etc will be interested though to see how it goes, so wishing you all good luck, CE crew should have the champer's out ready for congratulatory celebrations lol.
So sending you happy hugs for today Sue and love to Sam,Tina and Alison.

    Morning Sue
What a pretty and summery gift today to brighten anyone's day.
I have some of the stamps to go with your dies but have to confess that I've not used them yet. You have given me the nudge I needed to get them out and have a play.
It's the same with letterpressing I really must do some and come out of my comfort box.

I will be trying to watch Hochanda today but it will have to be via the laptop as we don't have a tv here so it all depends on the dreaded internet connection.

To all in pain and suffering I hope your day gets better. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

  36. Morning Sue. WOW This card tick's all my boxes. The colour's are beautiful very summery. I couldn't get the letterpress technique right when i saw john at my local craft shop where he was demoing and i found out where i was going wrong, i was doing the wrong side and it was coming out a right mess but everything is great now lol. Have all of your canadian die's but for some reason i only have the florebunda stamp so i will have to order some more as they are all stunning stamp's and stamp beautifully everytime. Thank's for another great video with all of your hint's and tip's as i would be so lost without these video's lol. Have the house work done ready to watch and record the new Hochanda channel to see john do his magic with your die's. Good Luck to Hochanda and everyone on the show today.

  49. I like the letter pressing technique although I am not good at it - perhaps because I am still coming to grips with perfect medium. The end result, as you have shown, can be beautiful so there is impetus to keep practicing. Having matching stamps to go with the dies is great for those who enjoy stamping and colouring and makes for a card with more colour; the Cosmic Shimmer paint pallets are perfect for this. All in all, a beautiful card

  75. Hi Sue,

Such a pretty card today, love the floral stamp and that very useful sentiment - and you're right about pigment ink being better for the letterpressing technique rather than a dye-based ink - Brilliance inkpads also work really well...

I saw a comment on the blog earlier this week that the new Hochanda channel is being broadcast from Peterborough, so is it truly an independent channel or just the Ideal World mob under a different name?...we need to know!...lol

  96. Good morning Sue and the wonderfull Wilsonettes,
What a beautiful card Sue and one that for me is really nice to see but there again i think that the Wilsonettes that have had the sheer pleasure of meeting you know that this is just how you actually feel. I know that they say that everything in America is bigger than anywhere else, i just wonder if they included your wonderful heart and persence in that statement. And please dont faint but the black is just right amount on todays card for me and just works so well. I am going to have a try at the letterpressing technique that you have shown here today as it looks sosoft and as you say subtle and gives it a totally different look all together from the darker colours. I think i must be in the subtle colour department because i really like the effect that this gives to the card and just adds that touch off something when you don't know what it needs. Thank you Sue for bringing just beauty and skills to our hands, for being so generous in sharing your talent and ideas.
Well yesterday it was so bad here that i got adsolutely drownt trying to get the messages into the car because all normal help that i get at the supermarket had decided to stay in during the downpour, talk about being a drowned cat, i was soak that much i needed to wring myself out when i got home. The picks up Rory from college again and takes him to his cadets at night. Well that was all fine until OH decided i was going down the road to help hang doors and lifting them in and out off the newly carpeted mum's house(he was not cutting the bottom off them with a rip saw/circular saw when i had just got those new carpets laid) outside just when the rain couldn't come down any harder so was soaked through again, but had to pick up the wee guy from his cadets again so shrower was so welcome but woke up today with the cold of course, oh the joys of DIY and shopping. The clouds were so dark this morning i thought that i had set the alarm at the wrong time and they are pinching my beautiful hills which is such a shame. As i said my boy started college yesterday oh and it is strange not having to buy school clothes as being doing it for the past 20years but he is loving it so that is all that matters. I am hoping that this taster set of courses that he is doing gets better as the year wheres on as so far i can't understand why they put him onto a course that has nothing to do with computing like he wants or actually teahcing him some skills like joinery, plastering, woodwork etc. Instead tomorrow he is going out into the community to do gardening and emptying buckets etc, not what i was informed from the careers office at all but we will see what the following 6weeks holds.
Got a GC with no handle or plates for £30 from hobbycraft the other day as when i open mines up it has snapped one of the plastic bars that holds it together and C&C could not help me source any spare part to sort it. And lovely Sue i know that your wonderful company would help but it was just the fact that it had been bought from them but after waiting and much emails to them the say that they couldn't help. So girls just a heads up as it doesn't seem to matter what is wrong i can't seem to get customer service at C&C to help i hope you all have better luck than me. Anyway i will go and leave you now and lovely to see some familiar names again.
    Love and crafty hugs

Ang, (Mrs Duck) you have every right to be biased, after all he is a special friend of yours.

Izzy, from what I have read, Hochanda is not connected to create and craft. It has been created by Paul Wright and Val Kaye who used to own Ideal Shopping Direct ( Ideal World and Create and Craft TV ) but this is a new venture for them.

  106. Good morning. Thank you so much for that awesome video and gorgeous card! I love the letterpress technique. Sometimes it comes out great when I do it and sometimes it doesn't. You've taught me why...I must use pigment ink. Thank you!
Have a beautiful day and good luck with the new venture!

  111. Hi Sue,
I thoroughly enjoyed today's video - I watched it just before the new Hochanda Launch.
Your card today is beautiful even though I rarely use peach. The card is beautiful and the black really lifts it!
    I love that embossing folder!
I will be tuning in to watch John later! He always speaks so highly of you. I don't know him at all but he seems a very nice person and he makes some lovely cards! Wishing him well and everyone involved in this new venture.
Lovely to see Norah back - I do miss her when she is busy!

  113. Great tips on inking the embossing folder and letterpressing. You do a wonderful job with your videos. They are so clear and precise. Your videos are such a pleasure to watch and learn from each time you share one with us Wilsonettes. You are my inspiration for card making. Thank you so much.

  114. Tip for keeping up with those clear plastic liners in your stamp pads:

Put the clear liner on the stamp pad; Adhere glue dots or a nice glob of strong glue or adhesive to the top of the clear liner.

    Put the regular lid on the stamp pad and press it down really well so the liner and lid stick together; If you used a liquid adhesive, put something heavy on the stamp pad or rubber band it to hold the lid down and let adhesive dry;

Now when you lift the lid off, the plastic liner comes off at the same time.

Make sense? Worked well for me. Jan D., Florida, USA

  115. LOVE this card! I really love when you do stamping for the focal element and this one is gorgeous , the Video explains every little detail so clearly, the soft sparkle on the sentiment and on the camellia flower is exquisite and the letterpress background beautiful ! I don't have this stamp but I do have quite a few of CE floral frames, so could maybe try something similar.
They seem to be having a few teething troubles at Hochandra so I hope they settle down soon.

  123. This is very different and I think I like it. I don't do a lot of colouring, but should try harder. Watching at 7 and recording for sister who is away and can't see it. Saw the launch and first programme, but can't wait for yours. The picture isn't very good as yet, probably not HD, but hopefully will get better. Not sure about the club. xx

  126. Hi Sue, a very pretty card and I love both the stamp and the beautiful peach card/inkpad. I can just about cope with this amount of black :-)
Looking forward to watching John later on. I recorded the launch programme & have just managed to watch it - the sound quality was terrible so I hope they have it sorted before John comes on as he speaks quite quietly. There will obviously be teething problems but I wish everyone involved (especially Creative Expressions) Good Luck.

  138. Hello sue an everyone I really like the pretty flowers stamp an love the flower with the boarder die. The card is so pretty an looks different then the cards you make. I like trying to do stamping I am not very good at it but I love using the embossing powders it's like magic. Would like to thank everyone who as been sending my granddad kind words he is very unwell right now so unwell that the doctors have had to stop his chemo because he as now lost 5stone an over the last few days his hair as come out he is very upset because it was so long it was down to to his bum when he let it hang down. Nan as cut his ponytail off but it's not very good because it had all gone knotted at the top so she don't think he can save it to keep for him. Dd said things are not looking very good because thy really needed to do chemo for 6 rounds an he was only in the 2nd 1 so now they prob won't be able to do the op in his belly. I don't really no wat it means because he didn't really want the op anyway. My nan is really sad an dad said its because they got to wait an see wat the next scan shows but she told me we got to muddle on an I am helping her I just been to her house to help take the rubbish bags out for the bin man in the morning because nan ain't meant to lift things because she had a back op a few months ago an she as cancer as well but not in her belly like granddad nans is in her brain at the bottom. I am helping with the cats an the bins an when I was there we went up to her bedroom an we made a card for my mums birthday and another littl card for grandad to say I was sorry he lotst his lovely long hair he sort of cried when he seen it nan said they were happy tears but I no they are sad tears because he had his long hair for over 20 years oh an nan is going to try to to save a bit to make a little plait to keep for him. Thank you again everyone your all very kind Molly oxoxox

  144. Hi Sue,
I really called back to say I had watched John's programme. Clearly there are teething problems today but John did extremely well. It is unfortunate that the website isn't up and running as we were unable to have a look at prices, availability etc. However Rome wasn't built in a day . John did as well as he possibly could have done and Lee was a good Presenter to have.
However, as I lchecked in I saw Molly's post! Sometimes we get things a little out of perspective - we complain about simple little things.
Molly - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family tonight! You are being such a help to your Grandma and Grandad. Sorry if I get the names wrong - you know what I mean. God Bless you Molly! You have been such an inspiration to all of us!
    Take care,

  146. Good evening lovely Sue and the fabulous Wilsonettes!

You have chosen a superb card to demonstrate today Sue-a little bit different from the norm but equally impressive. I love the peachy tones, particularly when used for the camellia flower, it is stunning. I am so glad that I invested in the Canadian collection, that was a rare wise move on my part because the results are breathtaking. The stamping is exceptional, but the only element that I don't currently have....I can feel my credit card quivering with excitement again:-) I'm going to enjoy the demo before bed when I can give it my undivided attention.
I've had another frantic day, had a seizure during the night so felt a bit foggy this morning-I put it down to the excessive excitement of Johns shows today! Unfortunately, I missed the launch due to a doctors appointment, but managed to tune in after 5ish- the sound quality is admittedly dodgy and there's obviously a few teething problems but it's early days and I'm looking forward to johns shows tomorrow because he coped admirably and oozed professionalism.
Theresa, can I really put my trust in you to care for my most prized possession , to regularly stroke it , talk to it and nurture it, or would you take the opportunity to flee the country never to be heard of again? Provide me with a lawyers letter stating your intentions and if I am fortunate enough to win I may consider your proposal:-)
Yvonne, your dedication to Sues blog is admirable, be sure to get all the rest you need to fully recuperate- we look forward to the return of your usual wit and charm sometime soonxxx
Similarly, I hope all is well with you too dear Beth, and that Lauren and Hannah are still showing Mr B whose bossxxx
Molly, you really moved me sweetie, you are such a little diamond and mature beyond your years. You are coping admirably with the difficulties your family are facing and you are so so brave. You have more to cope with than many adults yet you remain sensitive and caring-I am sure you are a source of strength and comfort to your gran and grandpa. If you ever feel helpless just remember that it's the little things that we do that mean the most, so putting the bins out, feeding the cats or making a card will mean the world to your grandparents. I wish you all well honeyxxx

    Love and crafty hugs,

  155. Hi Sue & lovely Wilsonettes

Excuse my late delay in commenting on this simply gorgeous card, I had a quick glance at your card in the morning but had decided to do all the housework first (had a lot to catch up on), then spend time reading comments & writing my own so I could then dedicate myself to the Hochanda channel & John...bad move it was very frustrating that my computer was so slow it froze on me many, many times when I tried to get on the internet...I don't think even the internet providers were prepared for the sheer volume of people trying to connect to Hochanda all at once & the Ipad hmmm not a chance...so my sincere apologies.

This card is absolutely stunning Sue, the colour combinations really do it for me & I hope that in a short while I will be able to watch the video...thank you for sharing my friend...you are an amazing person.
