Tone on Tone High Low Technique

Hi crafters!  Another one of my favourite techniques, my High/Low Technique, but this time it has been done with a tone on tone variation for a much more subtle background.  It adds beautiful texture to your card projects without taking away from your focal element!

Just another quick reminder that my shows are on C & C today at 4pm with Dave Bradford and at 7pm with Andy Love.  I do hope that you will be able to tune in to see some fun new techniques and demos!

The finished dimensions are 7 3/4" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  16. Hi Sue & Wilsonettes

Luckily I have the Canadian Border Set & the Lisbon cutting die so I would be able to make this card, except for the gorgeous mask...I have the wavy mask but not sure it will give the same lovely effect as this one. Thank you for showing us such a wonderful technique with regards to using the mask with double sided adhesive paper...I hadn't thought of using this in case I couldn't remove the mask without tearing the paper but after watching your video I am certainly going to give it a go.

Overall, & as always Sue, A stunningly beautiful card & showing us your techniques for snipping here & there then anything is possible with any cutting die large or small. Thank you for sharing a fantastic video with us Sue especially today as I'm sure that you are busy preparing for this afternoon shows...Hope you have a lot of fun with the shows & your demos...I shall send an email but as always you are inundated with them so might be lucky enough to be read out...even so it wouldn't matter because I would be happy just watching you presenting us with more masterpieces. x x x

Well friends I'm sure there are many things I need to mention from yesterdays comments but I really have to dash as first day off work & I have so much to catch up on so I can watch Sue later without any disturbances...so I will read yesterdays tomorrow & include any personal mentions then x x x

For all those in need of (((((HUGS))))) for one reason or another then I'm sending them your way, please take care to my special crafty friends & to all Wilsonettes.
    Love Beth B x x x

    Morning Sue
Today's gift is definitely a 'Sue wilson' masterpiece.
From the backing to the finishing touches everything just shouts SW.
I love today's format and your colour palette is just gorgeous soft and gentle and I defy anyone not to want something like this to arrive on their doorstep on any day never mind on a special occasion.

Unfortunately I don't have recording facilities here but I've fingers crossed that our internet connection will behave in this heat and I can watch via the laptop.
Good luck for this afternoon Sue although I know you don't really need it as you will have sell out after sell out.

Off to Supermarket today for a big shop as we have visitors in the middle of next week and as it's a 95k round trip I want it done and out of the way.

To all in pain and suffering I hope your day gets better. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

  60. Good Morning Sue & lovely Craft Friends,
Totally gorgeous card today Sue, I am loving the tone on tone high low technique, at first glance the background looked to have a 'linen'
Effect, the combination of dies you have used are just breath taking.
I am so looking forward to watching you on TV this afternoon, what a super treat!
Now I have a little something to thank you for Sue.......
One year ago today, outside my local coop cafe I was nervously waiting to meet two ladies, who were as equally nervous, we had all spoken briefly to each other on here (your amazing blog) and discovered that we all lived within about 6-7 miles from each other and so arranged to meet up.
Well 11 o'clock on 23rd July we nervously introduced ourselves to each other, ordered a drink and about 4-5 hours later we left the cafe, I knew it was the start of something very special, I can only describe it has it was like discovering a long lost best friend, because that's exactly what we are, one year on, it feels like we have known each other our whole lives, to the point that in a panic moment or when life has dealt you another blow these two ladies are my first point of contact.
Our weekly meet ups are the highlight of my week, every week, we can share the deepest of emotions and laugh at the most ridiculous of things, we know what makes each other 'tick'!
So THANK YOU SUE W. !!!!
The power of your blog has turned my life around, you have given me two very dear friends and that in turn gave me the confidence to start my own blog, this had turned into a "virtual cafe"! Where I have made many, many more amazing friends, who meet up 'virtually' everyday to inspire each other, but also love and support each other, I now have a 'reason' to get up get on with life. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Sue xxxxx
Pat & Sue (mrs b) thank you both for an amazing year of friendship, I look forward to many, many more!
    Love and hugs to all,

WHEELY BAD - the Caught in Crystal-work turned out very fine. I´m really happy with it.

I made the first one like you in the video, Sue. After a while I thought I do a second one and try something different. What I found out was: If you use the lacquer and the Mica powder first you´ll get a lot more shimmer on it. I prefer using the inks after the powder...

Your card today is fantastic. Can it be different?

  92. Good morning Sue and the lovely Wilsonettes!

This is a Sue Wilson Special of monumental proportions and I love it! I have never used a mask-I'm a bit scared of the mess with the texture paste, so this technique gives me a dry alternative, and how nice to see you dusting off the micro beads once again. I would love to see the finished effect in person as I am sure that it would translate better than on screen, but I adore the entire look of this card from the subtle colour , to the embellishments and the dies used. Thanks for the handy tips about inking the mask and cutting into the dies to create a different look-you have helped to elevate my cards beyond what I could have hoped to achieve on my own.
YEEEAAHHH! Christmas has come early to Stirling and I am totally overcome with excitement, so much so that I was even dreaming about the delights I would be purchasing today....sad?me?NOOOO!
I am getting ready for my hospital appointment just now but I couldn't miss reading everyone's posts before I went. I don't have much time to write unfortunately so apologies to all my friends if I haven't responded to your lovely comments yet, I will catch up later on.
I just wanted to say good luck Sue, you so won't need it though!, iam sure that today will be a massive success because we have all missed your lovely good self terribly.
Hope you are all as primed as I am with remote in one hand and credit card in the other, and you enjoy our little Suefest later on.
Wishing you all health, wealth....well, until after Sues shows that is, and happinessxxxxxx

  144. Hi Sue
What great shows you did today. You just never stop amazing me with all the great tips and ideas you come up with. Today's shows especially have made me want to experiment more with my dies. I got some more of yours today, but alas not all that I would like to have purchased. I will continue to gather them more slowly though as I was so impressed with the Greek collection, but had purchased others in the first show. I love the way they can be matted from each of the other sets.

Today's card is in one of my favourite combinations. It is so subtle and gorgeous yet again.

Have a great time in the US. Savour the time with your family and your Mom. It is so important and very very precious.

All the best to you all.

Only caught the 7 p.m. show with Andy (will catch up on the other tomorrow) fantastic samples as ever and your usual informative demos. Nice to hear our familiar names - Mary, Dawn, Rolfi, Patricia, Tracey etc - sending in emails.
Suppose that is the last we'll see of you for a while? Think someone mentioned you're off to the US again and, if so, have a great trip and best wishes to your Mom.

I saw and recorded your shows on C +C today. I have soooo missed not seeing you very much on TV for a while. As always you look fab and I really enjoyed your beautiful demos. I purchased your Greek Collection as I did not have any of them and they are such a very pretty set. I got them on flexipay, used my craft club membership to get 10% off, used my ten pounds I had owing to me for my membership renewal and even got free p+p !! I think it is the best deal I have ever managed to get !!!! I am very pleased and can't wait for them to arrive and get started !! Your samples are, as always, absolutely amazing Sue. 154. Hello Sue,
Fabulous video, loved the high low technique, was a bit concerned at one point that your mask was stuck forever, but need not have worried.
Beautiful colour combination and a truly elegant card.

I have watched both your shows ( albeit via the Internet) and your samples were fantastic. I loved all of your demos, you are so clear with your explanations. It was lovely to hear some Wilsonette names read out, especially Patricia's, a good friend, and Rolf, another follower from Germany. Thank you Sue for all your hard work, you have made a lot of people very happy today.

Sandra lovely lady, I am so glad you took the plunge that day one year ago and went to meet Pat and Sue (Mrs.B). The result of which has led to many firm friendships being forged and many laughs along the way. So thank you too my friend.

    Love and hugs for all
