For You

Hello crafters! I am not sure if this will translate or not, you will have to tell me, but when I finished this card, all I could think of was neopolitan ice cream!  The blush pink card, milk card and brown card together just made me crave ice cream! Is neopolitan ice cream uniquely American?  I don't think that I have ever seen it in the UK.   Let me know.  Anyways, as far as the card goes, I started by embossing the pink blush card background with a new folder called Sparkle Squares.  It is one of our new smaller folders (5 3/4" x 7 3/4" in size).  I cut the lower edge with the Phoenix cutting edge die.  I cut another piece in brown as a lower edge shadow and glued it just slightly outward from the pink one.  I cut another one out of milk card and used all three of the dies in the Phoenix set this time.  I added it to the top with some mounting foam.  Using the Scored Lines embossing folder, I did a small strip of milk card and glued it so it was peeking out from underneath the Phoenix edge.  For the focal element, I cut the Copenhagen die in milk card and in brown card.  I used the brown as a shadow and slightly offset it beneath the milk diecut.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the smaller die in the Oslo set.  I inked it with Antique Linen before removing it from the die and mounted it in the middle with foam.  I added two pearl corners in the upper corners as embellishments.  I paper pierced a milk mat, then added a thin blush and brown mat before adding a final milk mat.  The finished dimensions are 8" x  8 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  5. GM Sue. Lovely. Yes we have Neapolitan ice cream. I think it was more common in the 70s though if I recall correctly before the plethora of the varieties we have today existed. Or am I completely wrong on that? Wilsonettes will discuss no doubt.

  19. Hi Sue

Actually Neapolitan ice cream is Italian from Naples where it originated it was brought to America and other places by immigrants who shared their expertise in the making of iced desserts something they specialised in.

Not sure about neapolitan ice cream but there is definitely an ice cream feel to this card with the swirls at the bottom. A very pretty pastel card right up my street.

Hope the Easter bunny came calling!

Morning Sue, Pam and all Wilsonettes, what a lovely greeting this card is today, Neapolitan Ice cream, yes we still have them here, they were a real treat when I was a child, my Mum would slice the ice cream up and sandwich them with wafers, oh I can still taste it now, yummy. Anyway this card reminds me of it so much, I am going to have to use these colours as well, love it.

    Morning Sue
I hope you're having a day off and resting today as no doubt you have a manic week ahead.
Yes we have your ice cream here and it used to be a treat when I was little instead of the usual vanilla.
Your gift today is just beautiful. I love the new Efolder and your colours are just perfect. Today's die is definitely one of my favourites out of your Gemini set as it's so gentle and very very usable.

We have sunshine this morning but yet again it's very cold. Through the windows it looks glorious but it will be an indoors day for me.
We also have a beautiful show of Daffys and the Primroses in the grass (I cannot call is a lawn as it was once part of a field)look absolutely stunning - cream and purple gorgeous. We also have one or two Cowslips/Oxslips under the Catalpa tree so Spring has sprung I only wish it had told the Temperature God.lol. I hear the car in the back lane which means Mr E has returned with breakfast so must go.
To all in pain and suffering I hope your day gets better. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

As people have already said we have neopolitan ice cream Google tells me at least a couple if supermarkets sell it The letters "T" and "S" come to mind It was extremely popular in the 70's But now there are so many more exotic flavours it's gone out if favour a bit Beautiful card in these neopolitan colours and I'm loving the new embossing folder

  32. Hi Sue. What a gorgeous card in beautiful delicate colours today. Love the Sparkle Squares EF.
As you can see from the previous comments we certainly do have Neapolitan ice cream over here. I agree with Clare W that it was more popular during the 70's when my Gran used to buy a block of it for Sunday afternoon Tea, she would serve it sliced and put between wafers or dished up with tinned fruit cocktail (she used to let me have it in a dish on it's own and I always ate the vanilla bit first, then the strawberry and finally the chocolate. To be honest I still do the same today on the odd occasions that we have it at home. It remains one of my favourite flavours : ))
Sending my daily hugs to everyone. Only 5 sleeps now: ) Take care xx

  81. Hi Sue what an amazing card, so pretty and delicate and yes, ice cream colours!. I have a feeling you are solely going to be responsible for a huge increase in the sale of Neapolitan ice cream this week! Don't they call it the Delia effect. Yes I too remember it from childhood, we used to be sent round to the shop before the meal from my Grans house with a polystyrene box to put the ice cream in to keep it frozen, or it was wrapped in newspaper. Neapolitan was a treat, always ate vanilla first then strawberry then chocolate, oh I'm going to buy some now to relive the memory!

My parents must have been magicians as they always made a tin of fruit cocktail do all six of us! You were very lucky if you got the cherry!
Thanks for the walk down memory lane, I am off to see what the ladies are up to at the cafe! (My blog)

  112. Hi Sue and all the crafters

You can buy Neapolitan Ice Cream here in the UK too.

This card is gorgeous, and yes it reminds me of Ice Cream too.

I have a birthday at the end of the month so I am giving out hints to my friends to buy me some new dies of yours, fingers crossed.

    Have a lovely day everyone.

  115. Good Morning Sue & All The Wilsonettes! Belated Happy Easter to you! I hope you all had a good time & had LOTS of chocolate? I am not a great lover of chocolate, so I had crafting goodies instead! That was much better for me, don't you think? HEHE! I hope you are feeling better from your illness, Sue? My Mother had this flu last week & hasn't got over it fully. I had it a few weeks ago but am fully recovered, now (although I do have to go back to hospital for a small operation, which I hope will be soon!I am thinking of booking a room in the hospital, as I am there so often, lately!)! I hope everyone else is in good health? I send my best wishes to all who are suffering, at the moment! Well you have done another STUNNER again, Sue! I LOVE the colour combination &, like yourself, it reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream (which I love !)! I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the Easter holiday! Take care! Love, Mary XXX

  117. Good morning Sue,
here in Germany it´s called Fürst-Pückler-Eis named after a prince (in french demi-glace à la Pückler).
But in original I think it´s from Italy and it´s always strawberry, chocolate and vamilla ice cream in one...
So you made a yummy card today.

Lovely card. I really like the Sparkles Squares embossing folder. The colour combination is great. I'm sure many have told you Neapolitan Ice cream is available in the UK it was never a favourite in my home as my daughter and I oddly do not like chocolate Ice Cream. I really like the way you have layered the Phoenix dies. Thank you for sharing.

As for Neapolitan ice cream, don't know if it is just an American thing.

  127. Good afternoon Sue and the wonderful Wilsonettes,
This is a really pretty card Sue and can totally see where the Neapolitan ice cream thought comes from because yes we have it across here as well and it is lovely. I like the new little embossing folder that you have used as well, as you can because of the generic styling it will be quite easy to make bigger. My special niece that i am making the wedding invitations for has finally decided on a style....your Spanish dies shape, which is my all time favourite of all your collections and i think they will make beautiful invitations so thank you Sue for your beautiful dies.
Well girls, it has been one of those weekends where i haven't stopped since i started so my apologies to all of yesterdays winners, but i know that you will have some stamping fun when you receive your beautiful prize and to Sue for her continues generosity in having these weeking draws as it is so generous and kind of heart to do this for us each week.
Well having had new plants delivered from Bakker i am going out to the garden the fact that it is a lovely day and get them planted.
Sending hugs to all my Wilsonette angels both on blog and not at the moment, with prayers and hugs to our dear friends that are going through the mill at the moment.
    Love and crafty hugs

  130. Hi Sue,
Love the colours on this and what you have done with the Phoenix die - really effective.
As to the ice cream it was never going to be a uniquely American thing - it came from Italy after all

  131. Hi Sue, a beautiful confection today, truly edible. I am so pleased as I managed to get the pearl corners last week and am looking forward to using them.

The Neapolitan ice cream that I remember from the 50's came in a block and was red, white and green representing the Italian tricolour (hence the name). Not sure when chocolate took over from Pistachio but I didn't mind as I loved all the flavours. I'm not sure if the modern soft scoop variety would have the same appeal as a slice cut and put between two wafers :-)

  149. Helloooooo Sue and the Wilsonettes! This card has a mixture of pretty and elegant. Love the sparkle embossing folder and the Pheonix, Copanhagan and Oslo dies. Gorgeous, just gorgeous Sue. The colours remind me of a lush mixture of strawberry and white icecream......Like everyone else I remember having Neopolitan as a child. Sadly now, I've got a milk/whey powder/lactose problem and can no longer have icecream as such. I was so chuffed when I saw a brand called Swedish Glace which is dairy free/vegetarian and gluten free icecream. They did have the Neopolitan too but haven't seen it in S's for at least 12 months. But hey, at least they still do a vanilla flavour!!! Take care Sue, sending love and hugs to all who need them xx Love Karen xx

It's been warm and sunny down here in Cornwall today and although sometimes it's a bit annoying to live here, especially with hardly any craft shops and no shows to visit but on a day like today when I can sit out in my back garden as smile at the traffic snarls, I can truly smile (or is that smirk lol). Anyway, on to the card...Sue, it makes me wish I had some ice-cream in the freezer. The colours really are like Neapolitan aren't they, but in a delicate way. 178. Hi Sue

Beautiful card. I shall now relay a tale of why you have made my day!

... yes, we had Neapolitan ice cream, bizarrely, Neapolitan ice cream used to remind me of my Nanna's bathroom, brown and pink tiles on the off white walls and to match she a 'loopy' knitted loo seat cover, floor mat and loo roll cover in those colours to match her very 1970's bathroom! The minute I saw the colours my mind was cast back thirty and an unconfirmed amount of years ago to those wonders of home décor. I don't know if they did these things in the 'States- use knitwear in less enlightened times to "hide" those socially uncomfortable things like toilets and, god forbid, loo rolls... Anyone under 25 would have no idea what I'm going on about!!! As beautiful as your card is Sue I have to admit to having a damn good laugh when I saw it earlier- Has it taken me 12 hours to stop giggling childishly at the though of my dear departed Nan and her ever more inventive efforts to disguise loo rolls?

    Almost!

After the Neapolitan ice cream ensemble, in the house after it was pink painted walls (quite tasteful for the eighties), dark pink carpet (you see a slight theme here) but the mats had toned down somewhat to a darker pink. To top it off, "hiding" the loo roll was...

(pause for effect as I KNOW FULL WELL many of you would be familiar with these beauties)

The Señorita in traditional Spanish dress- Like a Tango outfit, her voluminous skirt hiding the spare loo roll. In black and red, she was quite a pretty thing but looked so out of place in that bathroom of wall to wall pink it was utterly obvious what lay beneath her skirt! I can smell the mix of air freshener and imperial leather right now, looking at Señorita ready to dance the dance of passion right there under Nanna's basin!!! After that it was a knitted poodle, in white to go with the theme of not matching anything at all!

Sue, thank you for unintentionally bringing those hilarious but very treasured memories back to me.

Very, very late post. Been helping Mr W today upgrading his phone. He doesn't do tech, he doesn't even know his own phone number so we had the (slightly ironic) situation today of being in a shop that sell phones and me, seated talking to the salesperson, dealing with all the technical's like his data usage, how the phone works etc with Mr W, standing very abled bodied and very dumbfounded next to me- the only thing he did was hand over his card and sign! We then got it home and I have set it up for him- I show him each time- we're on the 4th smartphone now and I hope it's because he forgets how- very probable as I sort out all the tech issues for both of us, ordered a case, screen protectors and a memory card THEN put the sim card back in his old phone as he works in a very dusty, dirty atmosphere so he won't go to work til it's in a new case which left me late for catching up with my bits and pieces (including working out how to make a CE pinterest board!) and I'm on the wind down just before bed- 2 weeks of near constant sleep and my head is so awake now despite the meds which are supposed to have me aslepp and not noticing anything, hence this ramble (apologies!).

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter weekend and saw at least a little sunshine! Wishing everyone a great new week with happy hugs and hours of crafting. Extra hugs to all who are struggling, I hope this new week brings you something to make you smile and forget about those things that are bringing you down, even if just for a little while.

    :-) T xxx
