You Made My Day

Hello crafters!  Today's card offering has a rather unique background treatment.  I used the Austrian border die and cut eight of them out of coconut white card.  On a piece of mauve card, I glued four of them in place horizontally.  Next, I glued four more in place over the top, but this time I set them vertically.  The total effect has a sort of spirograph (did those make it across the pond or are you scratching your head, asking "what is she talking about!" LOL) look to it.  It was very busy so I decided to soften it a bit by adding a piece of vellum over the top of it.  You can still see it, but it doesn't compete with the focal element this way.  I used Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue in the corners to attach the vellum.  If you just put a drop in the corners then wipe it flat, it doesn't show when it dries.  I always add pearls to the corners though as I just think it looks unfinished otherwise, but it is nice to know that it isn't necessary to hide the glue!  I used the Innsbruck die set to cut a frame for my focal element.  I cut the decorative top piece out of white card, then backed it with a mauve card piece, glued them together, then cut the centre out of both pieces together.  I added mounting foam to the back and raised it for dimension.  I stamped my sentiment in black then cut it out with the oval from the Vienna die set.  I inked it lightly with Dusty Concord distress ink before removing it from the die.  I cut an Austrian tag to seat my sentiment on and attached them both in the centre of my frame.  I tied a messy bow from mauve seam binding and attached it to the lower right side of my frame.  I made two matching stick pins for my bow and topped the bow with a white crystal sparkler.  To finished the card, I added a wide white mat where I used Cosmic Shimmer white PVA glue to dot all the way around the edge.  A thin mauve card mat and a final coconut white mat completed the card.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

    Morning Sue
Oh you have certainly made my day. What a beautiful gift to start a Monday morning. Using vellum really gives today's gift an ethereal look and so mysterious. Your focal element doesn't overtake the background and just sets everything off to a T!!!! It's just gorgeous.

Spirographs certainly did make it across - both my children had one and used them for hours and hours and to me they're far better than just looking at a screen and using their thumbs (OK that's my first ramble of the day).

To all my lovely Wilsonette Sisters thank you for your congratulations. As you can guess I'm still walking on air and in shock. Mr E only managed to get into the door before I rushed him to see the laptop and my name there on Sue's Blog - I even then asked him to make sure it was me again before he could take his coat/hat and gloves off.

Sandra - While we're here we always eat as the French and so yesterday was boeuf bourguignon with of course crusty bread. Some left over for today.

It's another pure white (frost)morning here and the forecast for today and the next few days is very very cold (-8 yesterday) and the possibility of some snow. It will be staying in doors for me. Have to go I've heard the car so breakfast has arrived.

To all in pain or suffering I hope your day gets better. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorow.

  63. Good morning to the lovely Sue and my Wilsonette friends,
This card is different and not to sure with the very busy background, but the vellum tones that down a bit and disguises it a bit for me (think it might me just my eyes trying to focus on it Sue which they are getting dizzy with without the burling round and round), sorry flower but the white of the card is lovely with the wee touch of colour showing through. Yes we had spirograph across here as well but it was my cousins who had everything that had it. It got passed down to us when they got fed up with it and there was only one cog left to play with but we still had hours of fun creating with different colours of felt tips or just the one colour and colouring in all the different segments to make a picture.
Sorry i wasn't on yesterday but had just had another night from hell trying to get to sleep between pain and the wind as it was so noisy and if it was that loud with double glazing, what was it without. What a horrendous night, i hope that all of you came out relatively unscathed by it all. Anyway, it was fantastic seeing Janet's name agmonst all the winners. Janet, i think that that deserves a celebration special cake this week, well done flower and to all the winners a huge congratulations as i know you will have been doing the happy dance yesterday when you spied your names.
Oh Steph, what are you like although i do like your sense of sharing in Mr L's birthday so that he doesn't feel so overwhelmed by his last birthday begining with a 5. I hope that what ever he gets he enjoys and shares with you. I know mine wouldn't share with me, crikey to get a birthday present from him would be something that i haven't experienced since the first years of marriage.
I'll give you all a laugh, today is our 24th wedding anniversary, but according to my hubby we have been married 25 years and it is our silver. He could even tell me the date and year we got married 19.1.91. Now we got married on that date because i have a thing about numbers and it was the same forwards as it was back. So he decided that 2015 - 1991 = 25. Now i always knew he was terrible at maths, but i had to take the 5 away from the 1 to let him see we were only 24 years. He says he hadn't forgotten(which he hadn't just for a change) and that it was a special anniversary but too much going on at the moment for him to think about it. Well being honest, i was just ignoring it anyway this year but maybe by our actual silver wedding we will do something nice.
Tres flower, i am so glad that everyone had a lovely time on Saturday for your mum and dad's golden wedding, but most of all them as that is a great, but beautiful achievement. I hope that it was a real family celebration for all of you.
Well we are not so bad today as it is only -2 and the sun is shining so prettily on to my hills today. One end of Dumyat(that is the hill at the back of Menstrie has still the covering of snow that refuses to move, the rest of the hills at the front have just a smattering of snow on them.
Well i have someone coming to see me about mum's windows today as i think we now need new ones, but they will be getting told from the outset that i just want a price and none of their nonsense as it is not a good day for me keeping awake wise. I had hoped that this bout of CFS would have left me alone for wee while but it is continuing so sorry but the eyes are have shut.
To all my love Angels both on blog and not at the moment for whatever reason, i send huge hugs to. Come back soon our missing Wilsonettes as you are sorely missed. Take care everyone until tomorrow,
    Love and crafty hugs

  74. Morning Sue. Morning all friends. Another day closer to Spring ! Dont know how much longer I can take this cold winter, I hate winter with a passion and my whole body hates it more ! So how happy am I that I have the warmth of Particraft and all it stands for to enter every day, your cards and family warm me to the core. Today is no exception. Yes it maybe more 'busy' that normal but I love how the vellum soften's it all, almost looking at it through a gentle mist, its a very pretty card and the sentiment is so appropriate. As an only child I spent many an hour in my bedroom with my Spirograph as my friend, then even more hour's colouring in the patterns Id just made, think I had a few dolls propped up watching me too.
Hope you all have a good day whatever your plans are, just stay safe. Stay strong and keep inspiring us Cheryl. Pam, our No.1 again, where you should be. To all our lovely Wilsonettes that are hurting and feel low I send you gentle caring hugs.

I do like today's card although I think I would prefer it without the vellum as I'm not its greatest fan. Thanks for sharing and hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

  108. Hello Sue,
Pictures not come through well at all, makes the card a funny yellow and grey purple which I'm sure it's not. In true colours it is probably super.

Guess what we had for dinner yesterday Janet (Ecco) we also had boeuf bourguignon - wish we had some left for today but it all went.

    Keep warm and safe everyone.

  136. Hi, Sue, What a crazy background. As soon as I saw it I thought 'Spirograph'. I used to love mine when I had one years ago and I was thinking how wonderful it would have been for making card designs if I still had it lol. I always love seeing you use vellum. As always, thanks so much for sharing with us. x

  139. Hi Sue

Really pretty. Vellum is another thing I like. It makes lovely snowflakes when die cut... sorry for mentioning snow if it's affecting you. So far in east Suffolk it's just frosty. That north sea wind may be biting most of the year but we do not get much snow here at all. A reasonable pay off! I smiled soon as you mentioned Spirograph... I adored it, making patterns, colouring them in for hours and hours on end. Mrs Duck, if it's true you can still get them you have made my January as I'd love one for creating backgrounds for my cards and artwork. Today's fine tipped fibre pens will be a lot easier to use than those old biros! I try make the patterns on my computer and lose hours doing it. Maybe it's not a good idea after all, lol... but I'm still going to look for one! ;-D

Belated congratulations to yesterday's winners, Especially to Janet and Maureen.

I got to make 3/4 of a card yesterday. Making the paper roses took ages, piercing the mat took two attempts before I gave up and taped the ruler and the mat down, I'd make a lot more cards if I got things right first time.. Going to make some stick pins tonight and finish it tomorrow. Then the rest of the week it's dealing with the last of the paperwork and printing it out. During my rest time I'm making my mum a crochet hat as she keeps 'borrowing' the beanie I made her partner for xmas! Hopefully I'll get some sewing practice in before the workshop Saturday but I'm not sure it'll happen as I have an appointment Friday with the nurse.

Norah, Mr W never remembers our "anniversary"... he always asks me how long we've been a couple, he says it's because it seems like decades (cheeky so and so!). I hope your bout of pain and tiredness passes soon.

Billy is barking at the window so Mr W is home. Take care my Wilsonette friends, stay warm and happy crafting.

    Hugs, T x

  143. Hi Sue
Another Beautiful & stunning card today, lovely colours, love it..

Liking the way you have used the border strip for the background both vertically & Horizontally which looks amazing & then diffusing it with the vellum makes it look very soft & with the sentiment topper finishes it off perfectly....

I had 2 Spirograph sets when I was a 'young girl' & would sit for hours on end drawing all those mesmerising patterns with my ballpoint pens in an array of many colours which was so much fun & I also had an 'Etch-A-Sketch' which was a red box with a screen with a knob on each side which you turned to draw with then you would shake it to remove the drawings & start again, those were the days !!!

I have the complete Austrian Die set & will definitely be trying to replicate your beautiful card..

  156. Hi Sue
Loving the busy background softened by vellum, aren't you clever. Yes I too loved Spirograph and would spend hours playing with it, my sister and I had a set each. The coloured pens used to dry out though so you always ended up with black and blue only. My daughter likes to play with it too when she has time, you can spend hours just playing! Take care love Diane G xxx

  157. Hi Sue. WOW !! Today's card is gorgeous !! What a fab creation !! I really love the Austrian collection. I love the background you have created. It does certainly look like a Spirograph pattern. I love the effect you have created by covering the background with Vellum to soften it. I think this gives the card a really nice effect. The focal Austrian dies look fab and at the moment the Austrian tag is one of my favourite dies to use. A Great bow and stick pins finish this wonderful creation !! Thank you Sue for sharing it.
I had a Spirograph that I shared with my sister when were kids. I loved it and played with it for hours !!

  158. Gorgeous card. I'd never have thought of putting the border strips over each other to give the spirograph effect. Thanks for the inspiration. Thanks also for the walk down memory lane. My husband bought me a Spirograph set in 1966/7 and I still have it. My children all played with it when they were young but they knew that they had to take great care with it because it was my toy not theirs.
