You Are Loved

Hi crafters!  More extreme distressing, I know, I love this look so there have been several of these cards of late.  I just think it is so pretty and a bit different to my usual matting and layering.  I do hope you aren't tired of them just yet?  I started by cutting the New York Background in milk coloured card.  I trimmed the edge tight on it and backed it with Sky Blue card for contrast.  I cut two pieces of milk card larger than the background and tore the edges on both, making one slightly larger than the other.  I used the edge of my scissors to distress it even more.  I inked them with Antique Linen to give them a bit of a vintage feel before taping them together in the centre only, leaving the edge area free.  I then used my fingers to roll up the edges in spots to add to the extreme distressed look.  I stamped my sentiment and embossed it in gold on a piece of milk card then cut it out with the smaller die in the Copenhagen set.  I cut one of the Scandinavian tags in milk to put behind it as an accent.  I nipped it in half to add to the ends so the decorative ends peeked out from underneath.  Using the Complete petal Camellia and the open petal Camellia, I made several two toned flowers.  I coated the petals with Cosmic Lacquer and allowed them to dry before assembling the flowers (I let them dry overnight just to be sure).  I added flatback cream pearls in the centres and seated the flowers around my sentiment with some cream jute twine.  Finally I finished the card with a milk mat that I paper pierced the edge, then a thin blue mat and a final milk mat.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Am I fed up with your distressed cards? NEVER! Because you could post every day using this tecnique and each one would be different giving us so many ideas. The background is absolutely stunning, the flowers are so pretty and I love the colours you've used. Why is it when you do distressed edges they look gorgeous while mine looks horrible? I've even bought a ruler that has different effect torn edges but it still looks awful. I start with a piece of card the size I need and by the time I finish it only big enough for a sentiment lol.

    morning Sue
What a beautiful way to start the week - sky blue (and we all wish we could have some of that lately). Your background die is really a must have and it's working it's way to the top of my 'need' list. You're also getting me to come around to thinking that the distressed look really isn't too bad - still have a little way to go but I'm getting there. It goes without saying that your flowers are simply gorgeous - I really do like using the laquer on them;it just totally changes their appearance.

Norah - It's absolutely lovely to see your posts once again and to have your weather forecasts for your beautiful hills. I agree with you I too don't like the horrible slush we get but the pure white snow has nothing to compare. You can never 'blow your son's trumpet too much' he certainly has your talent and you have every reason to be so proud of him and I hope he's proud too. It's wonderful when one of our children follows even a little bit in our footsteps.

Just breaking daylight her and it looks somewhat frosty. Never mind it's a stay in day and of course what's more important it's a crafting day.

To everyone in pain or suffering for whatever reason I hope your days get better soon. To all please take care and stay safe -don't want to hear about any broken bones etc. See you tomorrow.

  26. Morning Sue. Happy Monday Wilsonettes. Im going to start by saying how fantastic the photography has been over the past few months. You ave always managed to show your cards really well, and as we all know, photo's never do cards justice and real life they always look so much prettier but you are giving us so much detail and depth we can see every tiny little detail, they are perfect.
I love this card and never realised just how lovely and delicate looking milk card is until mine arrived and now I dont want to share it lol along with my blush and aqua, am I selfish ?
I just know if I attempted these edges it would look like Id just taken it from the shredder, but like everything you do Sue its perfect (if distressed can be perfect) ?
Long horrible drive to Leeds today for my hospital appointment, and it knocks me sideways so no crafting today... On the plus side only 3 days before our craft shop opens again so I can spend my xmas/bday money : )

  76. Good morning Sue and the wonderful Wilsonettes,
The distressing looks like vintage lace/ribbon that has seen better days. Your card with the distressing Sue because you sort of angle it looks better than other distressing out in the wide world. Normally i just don't like distressing but yours always looks designer distressing. I love both the roses and the new camelia dies as they make such pretty flowers. Today's card is lovely, thank you Sue for another insight into Sue's world.
Cameeli, i am so sorry i wasn't with it to welcome your little prince into the world. I hope that him and his mum are both well and thriving.
Steph, i hope that at least your drive to Leeds will be worth it for you, but take it easy today and hopefully you will be raring to go tomorrow again.
Well Kirsten and Ryan get the keys to their first home today and she is fair anxious to get in and make a start. Ryan wants her to get Sky in right away and she has said no because the lazy pollution will sit and watch telly all day long and not lift a paint brush to help. He thinks they should just get someone in to do it(but his parents have got money to do these things) and Kirsten is having none of it as says they need the money that they would spend on a decorator for other essentials and that does not include something that they can do themselves(nice one Kirsten). This young man is going to come down to earth with an awful thump with my Kirsten as we have always had to save up for the materials and do the work ourselves. You have heard the saying "he couldn't boil an egg", well he literally couldn't as he doesn't know how to. I can see a few disputes on the horizon before the years out somehow. On the upside i will get back my cupboards, and hallway from all the things that i have here for their house. Campbell is going to find it very strange without his wee girl here as he is devoted to her.
Well from a strange day here at the Ochils where it doesn't know whether to shine, rain, blow a gale or what, i will wish you all well. Sending hugs to all the wonderful Angels on here and not at moment.
    Love and crafty hugs

Another lovely card. I bought my first Sue Wilson die this weekend, the Floral Meadow Striplet. I have yet to make a complete card, but I did cut the die out and coloured in the flowers and leaves, and then I attached some clear packing tape to the back and used gilding flakes to create a background, which looked very nice.

Can I ask how you make your finished cards, as the size dimensions you give for most of your cards could not be made from an A4 piece of card.

  119. Absolutely stunning, I love everything about this card. The dies are beautiful and I love the colours you have used and those flowers are so pretty.
I also love the distressed look and must be brave and try it for myself although I doubt it will look as pretty as yours lol

  120. Hello Sue, well I sort of can now quess how you made this card, but not this particular one. I thought you had used a golden embossing paste without a stencil and layered it a bit like putting icing on a cake but roughly. I new I should have sat and read and looked as is my usual day starts. Today I decided to bottom my craft room, I am in serious pain and what's worse I think you had had a bad day. I can't believe I just typed that but that's what I thought.
Tomorrow I will return to my slow and steady regime once again. Please forgive me.

  122. Hi Sue,
Lovely card---as usual!!! The colors are so fresh and the flowers remind me of my childhood when I would find forget-me-nots in the back yard by the creek. I usually do not like when crafts are distressed, but this is an exception. It looks like lace to me. Well done!!

  123. I love the color combo of this card...both colors plays well with each other..
    Very pretty card.

Hey! Welcome to the wonderful world of Sue's dies.
Sue rarely makes opening cards (only once in a while to keep us on our toes!) just a panel .... However, you can make a big card by joining two A4 sheets discreetly on the short sides and cutting off the excess.

  125. Hi sue an crafty crew

However mine never turns out as pretty maybe I need to take more time an care with it but then I wouldn't wanna give it away to anyone if it was as pretty lol x

  126. Hi sue - I never get tired of looking at any of your cards and this one is no exception. I have tried distressing although I am not a lover of it and usually give up but yours always looks so pretty and delicate. I must persevere! Best wishes

  127. Hi Sue, what an incredible card! I've never been brave enough to try distressing my card but after seeing what a great effect it gives to the finished card, I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and give it a go. The flowers are so sweet with the lacquer on the petals. As always, thanks so much for sharing with us. x

  128. I am not usually a fan of distressed edges, however, I really love this card. I think the reason is that you have used 2 pieces of cardstock and distressed both which kind of gives a bit of a ruffled edge to it. I will have to give it a try.

  129. Hi Sue,

What a pretty card, such lovely colours too. I love the background die. I just have one of the latest release- the I've brought just before Christmas just so I could add Ivy to the paper wreathes I put on a couple of cards! Have been ooh-ing and aah-ing (like to-ing and fro-ing but while admiring stash, dies or stamps that are pushing their way up to the top of my hit list) over the new York dies but I think many of the backgrounds would work in a similar way.

The distressing I like. Have tried it a couple of times but I noticed the type and weight of card made a difference to how I did it. I've used the edge of scissors, a sanding block and tried tearing. I'm pretty hit and miss so I agree a video would be a big help.

Steph, rest well. Car journeys are rough for me too.
I am exhausted. Up late, up early and I was stil quite a way away from completing so I phoned and explained my problem and the nice chap gave me an extension. good job too as I'm seeing double and feeling like I want to doze off!

good news though, I have the most comfortable derrière in the whole of Suffolk, cushion came today and maybe that's why I keep wanting to drop off :-)

Many many hugs to all of you.

    T x

  131. Hello Sue,
Love the distressed look of this card, and I just bought the NY background, so this makes me even more anxious to try it. So beautiful.
I've been watching the live CHA shows in California. How I would love to go to the convention, and my daughter lives in CA, but it's still 3 days from Texas.
They also started the Create and Craft TV channel here in the USA. I wondered if Sue's dies are ever on the show. Mostly British hosts, so learning more of the local vernacular.

  132. like the card but undecided about the distress edges .I think I like them but I would never be able to send anyone I know a distressed card they would think it was only thrown together and couldn't be bothered to make them a nice neat card .

  135. Hi Sue
I really like the format of this card. I know you said you have used them alot recently but keep them coming. I wish I could get the hang of tearing paper better. Mine just look like accident lol. I'm better at just roughing up the edges with a blade. Yours look far more effective.more practice me thinks.
Take care and keep warm. The wind is freezing in Blackpool.
    Lots of love

  157. Hi Sue

I love this card, and in the past I have been reserved my opinions about the distressed look., but the more you do it, I think it is a lovely frill around the card. I don't know if I will do it yet until I have tried it several more times in the privacy of my own work room, as I know I will make it it look like something my kitties have played with for weeks.

Hi Norah, I am on the same wave length. I think the fun of building a home is saving for it, but both mine children have walked into ready made homes. Dishwashers, washing machines & pick up the phone to order a meal. When we moved into our new home we had a 2nd hand settee, a bed and a camping gas ring to cook on. We had the best sausage & bacon sandwiches on that little stove until we bought a cooker, and we loved every minute.

Steph, Gentle hugs, sleep well tonight.

    Kind regards to all :-)
