Happy Birthday

Hi guys!  I have a framed card for you today.  I started by cutting four of my Austrian borders in white.  I cut off the border's edge with a paper cutter to thin them a bit.  I covered a piece of ruby red card with a sticky adhesive sheet.  I peeled off the backing paper and laid the borders down on the background, taking care to keep them straight and lined up.  Once attached, I coated the background with clear micro beads for texture.  I used the Grand Rectangles to create an embossed frame around my background.  I stamped my sentiment from the Creative Expressions Bold Sentiment set and cut it into a strip and attached it across my background.  I tied a double bow from frilly edged white ribbon and glued it to the end of the strip.  I made a red felt flower from the Spiral Flower Four and seated it on the bow with some red and white Bakers Twine.  I cut several of the Faux Quilled Leaves to add around my flower.  I used one of the butterflies from my Magical Butterfly die set and added it in the upper corner.  I completed the card with a double white mat layer and added Cosmic Shimmer white PVA glue dots around the edge to frame the card.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/4"  x  8 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

    Morning Sue
Today's gift is just the way to finish off the 'working week' and start the week-end with a smile. Your background is just so lacy and fragile whilst still appearing bold and strong. I think I must be the only person not in love with micro beads. I just never seem to get on with them. Thank you for reminding me that borders can become backgrounds. I will be trying out today's gift in other colours to see how it looks.

TOB Theresa - I hope all went well yesterday and that you now have an apptmt that isn't too far in the future.! I lose heart sometimes re apptments. I was given one at the beginning of December for a Physio visit. They cancelled the day before as the Technician was off ill and couldn't give me another one until the end of this month. So how are we supposed to carry on in pain for months!! before treatment. Sorry Rant Over.
Re Baking Ice Cream - I believe that the ice cream is coated with a good covering of merangue and then baked and called 'Baked Alaska@. I admit that I've never been breave enough to give it a try.
Norah - I say 'Go Kirsten' you set the standard and stick to it. You see Norah your tuition over the years has worked.
Sandra - I lit one of the candles last night and to my surprise it worked fine. Might try again some time. I loved the Good Life and we use one of the episodes where she sits her husband down in a chair next to the stove and covers him with a blanket and gives him a stick to walk with when he complains about being tired and weary (hinting at him he's an old man). This is used when one of us says we are tired and weary. I think we need more of these wonderful series to come back with no bad language and no violence.

To all who are suffering and in pain I hope your day gets better. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.
    Janet. x

  35. Good Morning a Sue & Friends,
Wow Sue, there is something about red & white cards that just makes them stand out, it's great to see the micro beads coming out again, they give a unique feel and look to the card that nothing else comes close too, I love them, I really love this technique of using the border strips to make a background and this one looks really delicate, I love the flower too, I have recently tried revisiting some of my older dies, most of which were purchased through your amazing inspiration! I think I have all of the spiral flower dies. I hope you have a relaxing weekend Sue, hugs xxxxx
Cameeli, it's the weekend on the horizon, I hope you get some Mason cuddle time in this weekend! Xxxx
Janet, I loved the idea of Baked Alaska but I just couldn't bare the mess if it all went wrong, you can do it with a blow torch I believe, a cooks one of course.
I am so pleased the candle was a success, it will give you the confidence to make more, maybe try adding some essential oils, crafty hugs my lovely xxxx
Well I have to get organised today as it is a very dear friends 50th birthday party tomorrow, I have to make a card and gift today, I have plenty of Garnets so I will make some jewellery I think, the hardest part will be the journey, it is in Ipswich, Suffolk, it's a good 3 1/2 hours journey from here and we will have to come straight home afterwards for the kittens, plus the cost of all six of us staying in a hotel would be ridiculous! January is a long month financially! Haha
I guess I best go and get organised.

This border die makes a lovely lacy background...and the pattern isn't too feminine so could also be used for the dreaded man card and as one of the other ladies said it would be perfect for Valentine's Day too...

  49. Hi Sue. Oh this is lovely, I was looking at my boarder dies yesterday (Christmas present) and thought I would try them as a background. How funny is that! I had a go at yesterday's card adapting it along the way and was delighted to see the middle section without the corners looked lovely on a 6x6 card. I didn't want to make a big one, must play more to find out what else I can do! Have a great day, hope your mum is ok Sue. Love Diane G xxx
Norah, yes baked Alaska is covered in meringue which 'insulates it' as it is quickly cooked in the oven or with a cooks blow torch. I've not tried it but always thought it would be one to try! Sounds like Kirsten and MIL are cut from the same cloth too! They will get on well and keep those males in order! Xxx

  67. A beautiful clean fresh card. Ticks all my boxes even with a large bow, love that it is organza. My apologies Sue, for my lack of comments lately, I have been in rather a dark place for a while but am now improving since I decided to cut out the stressy people who were giving me unfounded grief on Facebook and am now concentrating on my beautiful family and friends. I am so blessed that they all have rallied round me to help.
Have a safe journey Sandra, for Pete and I to make the trip over to see his family in London from here in Somerset was always about 4 1/2 hours drive with 3 motorways junctions to negotiate and not to mention too much, other drivers not knowing where they were! Sadly though, those trips are long past, as with my agoraphobia, I would never be able to attempt them on my own. Luckily his family do come to visit me so at least I can see the grandchildren every so often. You can't beat the human touch can you?
To all under the weather in pain or loss, my heartfelt comfort blanket hugs go out to you.

  71. Morning Dear Sue and all Wilsonette friends. Where is our Sam ? Id like this sentiment to go out to anyone here today who has kept their birthday quiet lol.
What a joy again to open the page and see such a stunning Sue card smile at us, brightens the darkest of skies, having massive cracks of thunder in Bolton just now !
I also love how the border dies lend themselves as backgrounds, how clever must the designer be to bring so much that can be so many other different things : ) thank you for opening my mind and giving new idea's (all I need to do now is to remember these tips) !! Ive not used my micro beads for ages, the iced snow took over then ran low so wouldnt use any more, but then I found the humungus pot and adopted it so now I have it on my new shelves twinkling and smiling at me. Note to self, ignore those pesky flakes when they laugh at you when you open the cupboard, and grab box of micro beads again.
Will look forward to reading your tales from the French market Janet and will have coffee ready for the pastry.
To all lovely ladies battling with pain and sorrow today I send my heartfelt love to you. Sending love and hugs to you all.

  90. Hi Sue,
A very striking card today and very pretty. Love the use of the borders to make a background and the good old micro beads! I haven't been using them so much either - Iced Snow has been a favourite lately.
Well , we have started the day with thunder , lightning and hail! As the songs says - Things can only get better!!
Norah - forgot about the baked Alaska yesterday. I used to make it years ago when ice cream came in bricks/blocks rather than in tubs. It was harder then . The harder the ice cream the better. Then really seal it with the meringue. I had a sponge base which was covered in meringue too. Hot oven for just a few minutes. However today's ice cream is not so good as it is in tubs and often soft scoop! Mine looked like a bomb and I would stick sparklers in it for a party! Mad or what! Don't feel you need to answer that question!
    Have a good day everyone.
I am on a craft rom blitz ! My husband shook his head yesterday and said he was speechless . You need to make a bigger mess to tidy up? Right?
    Lots of love to everyone,

  104. Stunning card Sue. Love that Striplet and it looks fabulous as a background die. Your felt flowers are gorgeous and I really must pluck up the courage to try and make some. I once had a very traumatic experience whilst trying to cut out some felt - long story made short- I killed my old Wizard, massacred it actually. Couldn't get the sandwich to go through so put the wizard on the floor and used my foot to force the handle down. Handle bent a bit and I should have stopped there, but no, determination set in and I pushed harder, resulting in a loud crack and the whole casing shattered. I now have the GC and have learned my lesson !!! Mind you it wasn't the lovely soft felt that you use, it was quite a thick stiff type, I don't want to scare anyone off die cutting felt, because those flowers are so pretty.
CHERYL, well done for cutting off those insensitive "friends" out of your life. Glad you are starting to feel better. Sending you and anyone else who is in a dark place special loving hugs.

Sorry for not commenting for a couple of days but I have been quite unwell again. x x x

Looking back, all your cards are gorgeous Sue !! I hope to be making some of them soon. I have been struggling a bit but managed to make a very special card and matching box for my Mum and Dad. It is for their very special 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary tomorrow. It is my own slight twist on a couple of different cards of yours Sue. So I want to say thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your beautiful creations and for all your wonderful inspiration. I could not have done it without you. x x x

To all the Wonderful Wilsonettes, wishing everyone lots of love from Tres x x x

I really have to thank you. You have made me look at my dies in a whole new way and taken my card making to new levels of amazing! I have learned so many new techniques and how to use my dies in ways I never thought I would.
You are my first stop every morning and I thoroughly enjoy seeing every single card that you make. It can be a bad day and when I am here it all just goes away and I am in my happy and safe place!
After stopping by I am inspired to get into my craft room and create beautiful things. I have been trying things that are WAY out of my comfort zone and finding that I LOVE it!
Thank you so much for inspiring me and teaching me so many things!

  120. Hi Sue.
This is a lovely card. I wish I had seen those grand dies before they were discontinued. I do have two of them and could make a frame but neither are square or rectangular. I'd missed those. I know I could make a plain frame but it's the inner embossing that finishes it off perfectly. Oh well you never know there could be a release one day who knows ... Omg I've just had a sort of light bulb moment. I wish try it then share if that's ok as I know there are a number of people disappointed they had missed out on them.
well have a lovely weekend Sue and all the Wilsonettes. Stay as well as can be and warm.
    Lots of love

The leaves and flowers are just perfect.

Love and hugs to Cheryl - life is too short to bother about people who get you down.

Myra we must be on the same wavelength as I started to have a sort - oh it's so difficult deciding what to keep and what you can part with - perhaps we need help from the girls on the hoarder next door programme to help us out!!!

    Keep safe and warm everyone.

  131. Re Grand Dies
All the good shapes (label, square, rectangle) discontinued and hard to find. But the Spellbinders 5x7 Matting Basics rectangles are almost as big as the grand rectangles and do as good a job. They come in two sets and are readily available. Try Icon.

This is a beautiful card and such a clever use of the border dies. Now why didn't I think of that ha ha.
Got to tell you Sue, that I stepped out of my comfort zone and made a black and white patchwork card (patchwork shown on your DVD) with black and white felt flowers for my in-laws wedding anniv. and my sister-in-law loved it, and she has definite ideas!!!!
Jean D - thank you for the message from Yorkielass.

  139. Hi Sue

Absolutely beautiful. I can imagine it in other colours, with glitter instead of microbeads etc. I think the best creations are those you can instantly imagine in your favourite colours or effects. I'm itching to have a good play :-)

Sandra, please take care on such a long journey, keep an eye on the forecast and wrap up warm. The roads in and out of Ipswich at night are not too bad at all. Driving back out of town at night you won't come across much traffica at all bar a few lorries from the Port of Felixstowe until you leave the county. The councils do a good job gritting if it's icy. I hope you and your friend have a lovely time.

Cheryl, I feel for you and absolutely respect your actions. I spent way too long being worried about the sad people who have nothing better in their lives to do than b***h about me. I'm sure many people here have had the same as there are too many people in the world who feel the only way to deal with something they don't understand is to attack it. Now I think If people are too ignorant to ask me, learn, process and then hopefully accept then they aren't worth me bothering about. It's hard to do all the same. Hugs xxx

I must end there though as I'm feeling quite sleepy. A little kip while Mr W is walking Billy and I'll last our eveing with the shows waiting for us on the sky box.

Many, many hugs to everyone. Stay warm and safe.

  151. Good evening Lovely Sue and the wonderful Wilsonettes,
What another beauty you have made for our delight again today Sue with the beautiful borders against the red and micro beads. I finally tried these out at long last(only had them for over a year) and gave such a lovely look to my project. The beautiful butterfly fluttering its wings and the quilled leaves behind the felt chrysanthe that looks so pretty just finishes it off perfectly.
Oh Janet, you and I share I think the same morals and ideals about what is suitable for public consumption namely I don't believe there is any need for porn, foul language and vicious violence on tv as that is not needed for you enjoy great to. I think that my childhood must have been a lot like the Good Life just because of lack of amenities and money but it was the best life that anyone could have. Glad that your candles have turned out a success for you and it gives you such a buzz when something turns out right. Look out Yankee Candles as you'll soon be trying out fragrance ones next.;)
Sandra flower, have a great time at the party even though you have the long journey. Having tried various things to make travelling gentler on my back and spine the jury is still out on anything that actually works, although a gel like cushion does work a bit better if you can cope with the sea sickness feeling. Have fun though dear friend.
Oh Cheryl.i am so sorry that you have been subjected to such horribleness. You don't need that flower, as you have enough to contend without being brought down by nasty people. You are beautiful strong and intelligent lady who is coming out from the other side of a terrible period in your life that you are winning. You don't need such negativity, come on you show them that you are coming on and growing stronger in yourself.
Myra, right with you there as I have been sorting out under the stairs where I have a lot of my crafty things and got Kirstens stuff out from the back of it at the same time. It's taken all day to sort it back. Question...how after taking out a whole lot of the things do I have less space than before I started?
Theresa, so pleased I think that you are getting seen sooner but it's still a disgrace that urgent is still as long as 2-3weeks wait. Hang in there flower and remember we are really good sounding boards when you need to get something off your chest.
Tres, can I just wish your wonderful parents a fantastic day and congratulations on reaching such a wonderful anniversary. My own lovely mum and dad would have been celebrating their golden wedding this year as well. Funny how you never actually realise that your parents are that old to reach such a milestone, they always just seem the same to us eh!
Well it has been a tiring day between trying to sort out the cupboard and inbetween going to a meeting for the school. When Rory started at the SSSS I think the fact that I was how shall we say.....a enthusiastic mother, I got asked to go on the Health and Wellbeing committee as the parent view point and I keep wondering if they were wise in that action, but I keep getting asked back. You would honestly think they should know better by now as they always get awkward questions asked and what plans they are putting in place for various situations. They always end up the a list the length of their arm to be put in place or to bring me back answers, poor souls.
See you all tomorrow, with hugs going to all the lovely Wilsonettes both on and off the blog.
    Love and crafty hugs
