Hello there my crafty friends! I have actually done this card before in a different colour scheme and using different stamps, but I thought it was interesting to show it in the purple-blue version here. I started by stamping my sentiment in black in the corner of a piece of coconut white card. I used one of the aperture dies from my Magical butterfly set as I love the edge it gives the aperture! I cut it twice, turning the butterfly at a different tilt each time. I added mounting foam to the back of this piece and then started on the stamped parts. I personally find it easier to stamp a separate card for each aperture and then add it behind each of the openings, but you could also trace your butterfly through the aperture so you know where to stamp if you only want to do one piece. I stamped the Dandelion Meadow stamp (which is a stamp that matches my Austrian Collection dies) in black Archival. I then inked the centre of the stamp with Shaded Lilac. I added a ring of Peacock Feathers around that and a final ring of Dusty Concord. I blended all three colours together lightly and dried them well with a heat tool. I added each of the stamped images behind the openings so they were recessed due to the added mounting foam. I cut three of the smallest butterflies from the set in black and added them to the open corner in the card. I finished the card with a white pierced mat layer and a final white mat behind that. I'm not sure if you recall the yellow, orange and red version of this card last year, but curious which one you prefer? The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x 8 1/2" in size.

I tried this card first time round for a butterfly mad friend (he is butterfly recorder for the county) and he was really pleased. The card is so effective - thanks for the idea Sue.

Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteWell this is a novelty, me commenting at this time in the morning! I have to say it's because I haven't had a great deal of sleep because if the horrendous winds. I finally gave up attempting to sleep and got up at 4.45!
Anyway, back to the important thing - the card. It is gorgeous, right up my street. I love the simplicity of it but it is so striking! The colours are fabulous. An absolute winner of a card.
Well done to Maria on winning the card- enjoy it.
Hope everyone is safe and sound and that the winds haven't caused any damage. Have a lovely weekend everyone. Sending love and hugs to you all especially those under the weather for any reason. Norah, hope you are ok. Love Alison xxxx

Good morning Sue. I've been awoken by the very heavy winds here this morning so thought I'd take the opportunity to use my Christmas pressie and check out your blog on my tablet.
ReplyDeleteLoving today's card, the colours are so eye catching and the design so clean and crisp. As I'm getting older I'm finding that it's not any one colour that appeals to me but more the shades/colour combinations that grab my attention which means that both colour ways get my vote.x

Morning Sue. Yes i remember this one from last year and i made it, it turned out lovely. You could make it in any colour that takes your fancy as i think they would all turn out beautifully. The colours on this one look lovely but i do pefer the warmer colours. Congrats to maria on her win. Take care everyone in these horrible winds.
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes.

Good morning Sue
ReplyDeleteToday's card is stunning in its simplicity I adore it. I love the tiny butterflies, I find that I'm using them a lot because they are so useful for adding that little extra detail. Talking of detail I like they way your dies leave a gorgeous aperture so that you can use the 'waste' on another card.
Congratulations to Maria on winning the card enjoy!

I hope those winds ease for you all soon,
Muriel x
Hello Sue,
ReplyDeleteI love both colourways.
Love,
Roz.x
Hi Sue. Beautiful. I loved the orange, red and yellow version and this is just as beautiful. Which do I prefer? It is a very hard choice as I think they both work so well, but as you are curious to know then I would say the orangey one, but only by a whisker! (I think it is going to be about a 50/50 orangey, bluey split) You didn't tell us which one you prefer Sue, we would love to know : )
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Maria, enjoy your card : )
I hope everyone is safe from these awful winds.
Sending my daily hugs to everyone. Take care.
Good morning Sue
ReplyDeleteI too liked this card the first time around but actually I think these colours are my favourite. I cant help it I find blues so restful.

ReplyDeleteOh so simple and at the same time oh so beautiful. How can anyone go wrong with Butterflies. They speak of long summer days in the garden with peace and quiet.
So thank you Sue for starting my day with a magical butterfly to set my theme for my day.
Congratulations to Maria - I can just hear the exclamations when she sees her name. (I'm not envious of course lol).
Market day was nearly back to normal with more stalls than last week and more people around even though it was very wet. The cafe was full again so the hum of chatter was at normal levels (you could hardly hear yourself think let alone speak) so normal for a local French Cafe.
Our meal last night was Gilt Edged Bream (absolutely gorgeous) and pastries - Mr E had one like I had last week - Raspberry and Lemon concoction - I chose a Caramel delight. This was light chocolate sponge on the bottom; nuts in a Caramel mixture (a little bit like the bottom layer of a Mars Bar (other choc bars are available lol); then a layer of Marshmallow finished off with a caramel sauce on top. This was a little too sweet for me this week.
Today my thoughts and prayers are with all the families who have been affected by the horrible horrible shootings in Paris this week.
We are two and a half hours south of Paris but it has affected
everyone across the country.
To anyone in pain or suffering for whatever reason I hope your days get better soon. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

Beautiful card Sue, I remember the first card in orange/red bright zingy colours, this equally as nice in tranquil colours.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Marie x
Morning Sue...love the simple elegance of this design, and I do remember the orange/yellow/red version, but I'm a sucker for blues, so it's this one for me! Think I'm going to give this technique a try as I have a lot of birthdays this month and was a bit stuck for ideas, so thanks so much for the inspiration xx
ReplyDeleteI remember this card from before, it's lovely, and the technique is easy. I love the aperture edging.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn B x
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteAlways love your Clean and Simple offerings and yes I do remember the original version of this card and think I preferred the warm sunset colours you used then, but not much in it as any colourway would work with these pretty apertures
Congrats to Maria....

Hope everyone has a peaceful day and gets to have a crafty Play!!

ReplyDeleteHi Sue, I loved this card originally when you did it in the warmer colours, and still love it now in this cooler colour palette. The stamping is so subtle but effective. Due to the simplicity I think this would make a pefect sympathy card. Well done Maria. Have a good day all. Bx
ReplyDeleteA lovely card, so clean and fresh looking.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, love the colour behind the butterflies.
ReplyDeleteMichele
Good morning Sue and everyone. I remember this card in the bright colours and loved it then, and this one is just as lovely. I agree with Bridget that this would make a lovely sympathy card - and I have to make one this weekend as a colleague had a bereavement yesterday.

ReplyDeleteYvonneMayxx
Beautiful card! I loved it the first time I saw it and still do in blue ,though I do prefer the warmer shades.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Maria , enjoy !
Sorry I didn't get to comment yesterday as due to the storms we had no electricity from 1:30am - 7:30 last night and then the phone went mad with family and friends wondering what was happening, so Myra you were right we had very little sleep ( mainly due to a very large flower pot outside our bedroom window being rocked by the gusty winds and making loud grating noises) also the lightening lasted for ages ,so a restless night was had by everyone, but fortunately we had no serious damage , quite a few of our neighbours lost lots of tiles from their roofs which then hit cars leaving lots of dents and scratches but thankfully no damage to any people! Still stormy today, but not so severe.
Hope you all stay safe and warm, love and hugs xo
I remember this card the first time around. I love it and will have to try this technique.
ReplyDeleteAnne (Northampton)
I do recall the first card Sue, and this one is definitely my favourite.I love it!

Hi Sue this is such a pretty card, the butterfly dies are just gorgeous (I had them for Christmas !) . I do remember the orange card because it was so striking, this one is more subtle. Hi Sue, yes I do remember the card last year. I love them both, so pretty, but I think the orange and red one has the slight edge for me.
ReplyDeleteElizabethS x
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter what colours you use, it is just simply stunning because your butterflies are gorgeous with the extra detail around them. I have a friend who loves butterflies and I made her a birthday card using your butterflies and she loved them that much that she asked me to make several framed pictures for her walls!!!

I loved the orange and red one you showed I love this colour way too! It evokes (for me anyway) a different emotion - tranquil and calming The red/orange evokes a get up and go attitude Did any of that make sense! I think you'll know what I mean even though I can't get my words out!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, a lovely card.
ReplyDeleteLove this card Sue I cannot remember the other one - but these are definitely my colours and I will have a whirl at trying to replicate xx

Congrats to Maria on winning the Wednesday Giveaway.
Have a lovely weekend.
Happy Crafting!!! :) X X
Morning Sue and all that join us today. Fresh, colourful and plain, but in a classie beautiful way. Both colour ways look amazing waving to us through the pretty appature of your butterfly die. I think its a die I need to save up for over the next few months. No market for me this month, its going to be far too cold for me even though my space is indoor's I cant control the heat from the radiator and its not very powerful so rather suffering with my stupid fingers and joints I have decided to leave my next outing to market until next month - hohum, stupid body !
ReplyDeleteWas hoping to play with my new Scandinavian border, corner and tag die today that I got on sale at JS site but at the moment the day isnt going to plan! I should know better than to plan my day, but that's life ay ?
I hope all our friends further up North are ok, looking at the news it sounds awful for you with no electricity etc and that our other friends here haven't suffered any damage.
Im thinking of our missing sister's and hoping you feel well enough to come out to play soon.
A big congrats to Maria - yes its NOT a dream you have seen your name and we are chuffed to bits for you. Enjoy Wednesday's card, the best piece of art work you will ever posess.
Sending love and hugs to you Sue and all that stop by to say hello.
Love you.
Lancashire Steph xx
Hello Sue,Tthis card really makes a statement, it is gorgeous, so clean and fresh. I do remember the orange and red card - difficult to say which I prefer, I would really be guided by who I was making this card for ( knowing their colour preference ) and if I had no one in mind for that particular card, my mood of the day you might choose the colours !!!
ReplyDeleteMaria A, I am so pleased for you, enjoy your beautiful gift. LOL
Hope you have a good weekend, take care, Brenda xxx
,Anne C, Those storms sound awful so pleased you are safe.
Alimeeca, hope you manage to get some rest today and those strong winds died down. Pleased you are safe.
Janet, glad you enjoyed your day at the market. Your desserts sound yummy.
My heart goes out to everyone in France. I can understand how this affects the whole country, in fact every country seems now to be taking extra precautions. Will keep everyone in my prayers.

Good morning Sue, and all the ladies.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely, but I can't choose a favourite, and I agree with Karenlotty regarding the colours. Although with me it's more of a season thing. I'd choose the vibrant pink/orang/red colours for summer and autumn occasions, and the blue/purple colours for the rest of the year.
Alimecca - hope you get some rest soon, although the winds in Newcastle are pretty bad. We have sun and rain too!!
Congrats to Maria on winning the Wednesday card.
I hope everyone has as good a day as they can xx

Absolutely, completely and utterly beautiful!!! I love it but don't think I could pick which version I would like best as I loved both sets of colours. I was fortunate to see the "sunset" coloured one at your event in Craftworld Glasgow... stunning!
ReplyDeleteMore please of your inky wonders Sue. xxx
ReplyDeleteThis card speaks to the very depths of my soul! Butterflies hold a very special meaning to me. My dearest friend's 7 year old son became an angel on
ReplyDeleteMay 14, 2003 and he LOVED butterflies. At his funeral butterflies were all around us even though it was a fairly cool day. They actually landed on a few (4) of us and stayed on us until the casket was lowered into the ground. No amount of waving our hands at them made them move. It was as if they were trying to comfort us.
Since then, whenever I am down or feeling out of sorts I see butterflies, some in the real world and sometimes a commercial, in a book or on the web. I don't search for them but they always appear when I need a loving thought.
I always think of my dear Angel Joseph when I see them. Thank you for sharing this beautiful card with us. Today is one of the days when a butterfly is just what I needed. <3
I love the effect on this card

Good Morning Sue & friends,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful butterflies, I love the peacock colours too, I thought I had seen the same card, I like both colour ways, this card would brighten anyone's day!
Maria I am so happy for you, I know you will enjoy your prize!
Cameeli, I bet I know what you will be doing this weekend!! I hope there are plenty of cuddles for Grandma from little Mason xx
Janet, I can imagine the mood across the whole country is affected by the atrocities in Paris, I don't think it matters how small a village you live in it's the effect that spreads country wide, so terribly sad.
Your lovely dinner and dessert sounded like a Michelin star restaurant menu, yummy, who is the cook, you or Mr E ? Or do you take it in turns?, I hope you have escaped the violent gales we have been experiencing over here, sending hugs across the channel xxxxxx
Steph, probably a wise decision to leave the market for another month, I guess people spend a little less after Christmas or they might expect you to be having a sale! Did you get you Scandinavian set some time ago from JS because I went straight and looked yesterday but there was no sale that I could see? (Could just be me though)! I hope your frustrating fingers allow you to play at some point today, like you I had plans to craft but kittens and vet trips have scuppered those plans!
Sending you hugs Steph xxx
My blog didn't didn't update Scheduled today, but I have sorted it now if anyone would like to have a peek!

ReplyDeleteLovely butterflies today Sue, those tiny ones are so good. Craftihappiness to everyone and love from Macky.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI love this card! I made one in the Orange/yellow tones which you showed previously. It is relatively easy to make and very effective. I , too, gave mine to a male friend of the family. It looks lovely in the blue/purple tones and I will certainly give it a go.
Hope you have a really good time at the CHA Sue. x
Anne - so pleased you and yours are ok! I thought you must be close to where there were power cuts. So pleased no damage done to your home. It's windy here today but nothing like you had. It's also sunny which helps a bit!
Maria - congratulations on winning Wednesday's card. Enjoy!
Norah - hope it wasn't too bad where you are - thought of you yesterday when I heard that Forth road Bridge was closed. Miss you. x
Janet - thought of you in France too! So very sad - thoughts and prayer with all who are suffering today.

ReplyDeleteI love the simplicity of your stunning card..

Lovely card, Sue. I had to look back through the post list to see the other card you were referring too. I think the colors of both cards are beautiful. I prefer the sunset card butterflies because I liked seeing more of the silhouette stamping in the center of the butterflies. I also liked the shadow effect you created in that one. However I prefer the layout and little line of butterflies you created in the current posting. I pinned as usual. ☺ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/415386765606376278/
ReplyDeleteHello Sue, I remember the original orange/red one and this is just as delicious, cant pick a favourite though as I love them both. I was lucky to win this set of dies and they are my absolute favourite dies, the tiny butterflies add such detail.

Hi Sue, A gorgeous card, I seem to remember the other one, I especially love how the die leaves the outline around the cut line, and the stamping around the apertures, truly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Maria.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
Good evening Sue and the wonderful Wilsonettes,
ReplyDeleteI love your white cards as you know Sue but the ones with the apertures always take me away somewhere else and to another time, this one is the Aurora Borealis that goes across our Scottish skies at times especially at this time of the year. Thank you dear friend for bringing back beautiful memories as this card is so pretty in both colourways that you have done it in and the reason behind me have to having this stamp set. Gorgeous.
Lovely Maria, i am so very happy that you are going to receive a WOW card as i know you will really enjoy it and take pleasure from seeing it look down at you.
I thought i would tell you about my trip to the Panto up at the Armadillo(well that's what i call it)at the SECC with John Barrowman and the Krankies....it was fantastic. I had booked it when mum was still here for her me and the children to go to, so i took my friend that i meet up with so as not to waste the ticket or the seat. Funny, i nearly wet myself laughing with the banter that was going on up on the stage and the antics that i don't think were written in to the script at times as it was a bit near the knuckle at times but rare fun. Then they rounded it off by singing the 12 days of Christmas Glasgow style with the fairy on the top of the tree being the man himself and the 12 lavvi rolls swinging through the air at folk and him running to retrieve them. Him planking the pashmiri nans under the stage curtain so that Zip(Janette Tough from the Krankies) hunting high and low for them. Anyone that is not acquainted with Glasgow humour or language would be left wondering just what they were saying some of the time and i was just hoping that my Rory didn't get the double meanings(sometimes it only had the one meaning that was blatantly obvious). What reaction though they got from the crowd that was in and i think that as it was the very last one of the season might have had something to do with things sometimes going off script. All in all it was just what i needed to pick me up from Auntie Jeans funeral the day before which all that i could think about was doing up the John Players floats that used to go through Stirling with a different theme each year. Auntie Jean, mum, Jim(my brother) and i used to have a ball doing them up to start with and then being the different characters each year. Oh the things that Auntie Jean, mum and i used to get up to was great fun, the things we used to create for the different people and events and just the giggle that was always around when we got together. Her youngest son Ian used to be my stand in boyfriend when i needed an escort for some reason as we did everything together. It only took me until last year to find out that he wished it was real... i'll tell you, talk about being green, i think i must always have been greener than the grass around me because boy am i slow or thick to pick up on things.
Have fun dear Angels and sending hugs to all of you here and not at the moment,
Love and crafty hugs
Norah (Glenochil)
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteLove the card it is unusual and the beautiful colours (my favourite), love the detail around the butterflies.
Norah I don't know you but I loved your letter, would have loved to see the show but I live in Tasmania so that would be a bit hard, my sister is married to a Glaswegian so I know a bit of the humour, sounds fantastic.
