Best Wishes

Hello bloggers!  A vintage looking sort of card for today's offering.  I pulled out my old thrift store dictionary to use here. I used the outer ring from the Italian collection Decorative frames to cut an aperture in the middle of my milk card background.   I then embossed it with the Basketweave folder to create some texture for my background.  I added mounting foam to the back of it and matted it on a piece of black card.  I used the Decorative frames again and cut the larger decorative insert out of black card, then a smaller circle out of milk card and the next size down in that die set.  I glued them both to a page of my dictionary paper and trimmed the edge with my circle die.  I seated this piece down into the recessed portion of my background aperture.  I stamped my sentiment from the Bold Sentiment set by Cr. Exp. and cut it into a strip then matted it with black.  I put a bit of a bend in it and attached it to the side of my circle with glue dots.  I made several different sized  flowers using my Classic Rose die and my dictionary pages.  I used the scrunch method and then edged them with Black Soot distress ink before adding glue to the edge and Iced Snow.  I seated the two largest flowers on a black seam binding messy bow by my sentiment and the others were attached on the opposite side of the aperture.  I made a couple of stick pins and added some baby's breath and leaves and accents.  I embellished the other corners with pearl swirls.  A double milk mat with a pierced inner mat completed the card.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x 7 3/4" in size.

Belated birthday wishes to P, hope you had a lovely day.
Sandra, I will always be here for you, that's what this community is all about, caring.
Norah, sorry you are having a job with Robbie,s site. Give it another go, when you see visit a site or who do you want to visit, enter Robbie McCluskey and it should take you there. Robbie has regained the use of his tricep muscles now in both arms. He now has some function in all of his major muscle groups. He has a date of 17th Sept for coming home. He is learning to propel his manual wheelchair and use a slide board to move from chair to bed and back again. George is hopeful that as his spine heals itself he may regain some muscle power in his legs. As Robbie progresses physically, George is recovering emotionally, it will be so good to get my two lads back to their old selves. Thank you Maureen for your post for Robbie, it was lovely.
Alison, thanks for the info on the craft stall. Hope one day to visit it.
Doc was shocked at swelling but no major problem, he has increased meds and I go back next Thurs for tests. Norah, swear I haven't overdone it, it has been like that since cast removed.
Margaret glad little corgi us better.

Found Sue's new EFs on JS website last night - totally gorgeous and two accidentally fell into my basket! I'm still trying to decide whether to get Sue's poinsettias as I already have the spellbinder ones, has anyone any advice?? Congratulations to Susi on her Wednesday win.

  6. Morning Sue, Pam and all Wilsonettes. Stunning card today Sue, love the old dictionary that you have used, how these things come in handy after all these years.

CraftySuetoo: you simply have to have Sue's Poinsettias, I also have the spellbinder ones but they are not as good as Sue's believe me................go for it.

Such good news about Robbie, he has worked very hard to achieve what he has so far and he is continuing to improve on a daily basis. Also lets hope the increased meds help with the swelling.

Have a great Saturday everyone, stay safe, healthy and happy. Hugs June Smith xxx

  10. Hi Sue
Another stunning card. Love how you have used an old dictionary for the background and the roses, but I suppose any old book would do. Your dies really are stunning.
Good news regards Robbie Pam, he'll be so glad to get home, and he's getting stronger every day. Hugs as usual to you both. Hope your stronger meds kick in soon.
Special hugs to Mrs B and Sandra. Hope your feeling better today Sandra, and remember we are all hear for you. We all have broad shoulders to take are little grumbles. As you know mine is Pete, he keeps stumbling over the uneven ground, the rest off us don't as we all look where we are going, and we have no seagulls you'll be glad to hear. We have hired a car from from tomorrow so it should be interesting driving on the wrong side of the road. Hope Steph and Norah aren't hurting to much today, and that your hills are alive today Norah.

  11. Hi Sue and particraft friends. Another weekend, another beautiful card. I was using my Italian frames only yesterday so its lovely to see them on today's card. Its one we wont show to our partners though (especially the horder's and it may come in useful one day'ers) as I can hear those words we all dread "told you it would come in useful one day lol ! But its a lovely idea. Ive used old atlas books before now to take a snippet out for driving test cards (of the customers area) but never a dictionary page yet, oh and an old war fiction book for an avid reader, so yes, old pages are great fun to use.

Well done Susi, a card to cherish. Enjoy.

Pam - I must check out Robbies site. I use my phone more than the laptop and am running out of internal memory (I know how it feels) sounds like its owner ! But when the LT comes out, I shall go and check out this very determind inspirational young man that we all feel we know, so thanks Pam, and hope this ankle of your's starts to feel so much better soon.
It will be great to see Kim again today. I was trying to email her last night to tell her im thinking of her, but as I
said, my internal memory is full so it starts to create problems with messages etc ! Will have to get 'Mr told you so' to sort it for me, but I shall record her shows for future reference.

Thinking of my very special friends today and sending you love. Sandra, have another good day hon. Have a lovely day Sue, thank you for being you.

  21. Hi Sue, beautiful combination of milk/black card. Love the use of your old dictionary for the flowers a real vintagy feel to todays card. Just great lol lynne m x x x

Seems that the gremlins are back in my internet as I thought I left a comment on yesterdays blog. If not that then the lol ( lunacy of lynne remember) has struck again.

Poochies after the indignity ( their word) of a fur cut and me chasing them all over the place settled for a day of sulks on Thursday cuz I managed to keep them clean for more than 30 seconds. It really was quite comical with them laying down facing away from me and acting completely deaf - no change there then. Yesterday another tactic was tried in that Tilly became my shadow with Cully behind for back up. If I went to sit down - heaven forbid Tilly jumped up to get there first and then looked at me as if to say too slow beat you. Well this turned into a game for poochies at least of musical chairs ( well 2 settees really) me trying to beat the mighty menaces to sit down and they taking it in turns to jump onto the settee before my behind could touch the cushion. The little b's enjoyed themselves whilst I resorted to cursing under my breathe using a variety of swear words I have to admit. Well if nothing else it made me feel better after all it is a bit soul destroying to be beaten by two mighty menaces. Well the saying"Tit for tat" came into play because I then sulked ( ashamed to say at my advanced age but sometimes you have to go with underhand tactics) when dealing with my two. After a while of it driving my two nuts a truce was called and we settled down for them to nod off to sleep whilst I read to them. Hubby has them today as I am off to help at my daughters work fete. No doubt they will be little princesses for him.

Margaret CO - lol and gentle hugs to your corgi x x x

    morning Sue
Today's gift is one of those wonderful 'stock' gifts and one that could be easily adapted for those pesky males in our lives. I never feel comfortable cutting into old books - it really is out of my comfort zone - although they do give a wonderful effect. So Sue you have given me another challenge!

Pam - It is wonderful how Robbie is progressing. What a mystery the body is - it has it's own time and way of doing things. It's also lovely to hear that Dad -George- is also recovering. It is one of the biggest events anyone will have to face that of knowing there is nothing you can do physically to help your child. You feel so lost.
Norah - Please take one/two days R&R - I know it's easy for me to say but you just cannot do everything in one day. Here comes a -Mum- quote 'it will still be there tomorrow. No-one will come and do it for you'. So please take care.

Off this morning to do some bday gift shopping for my Great Grandson Thomas who will be one next Sat. So family party/get together then. Just hope that Meadowhall will not be full of teenagers who are coming to Sheffield University this year. Not that I have anything against teenagers of course! Should be good people watching from the coffee shops.

Congratulations to the very lucky lady of the Wed. give away.

Hope everyone is feeling somewhat better this morning and ready for a good week-end. Stay safe and see you tomorrow.

  62. Hi Sue

Lovely card. This dictionary roses are a hit! I like this EF and although I doubt I'll find one I will look all the same.

It's been an odd week. Cleaners advertise as self employed but it turns out they want cash in hand. No good as I have to show what I spend to councils etc to determine what I spend on helping myself so their names may get seen. Very frustrating.

I finally got to speak to hospital Thursday morning, as "phone later today" actually means "in 48 hours", nurse specialist dumbfounded and said she had to speak to surgeon and either one would call Thursday or Friday. No call and seven weeks on the brusing doesn't seem to be shifting. Extra physical weakness/ exhaustion making things seem so much harder as I need to lay down and rest every couple of hours. All very inconvenient! Want to go back to sleep but nature calling as is my tummy. If I get up now I'd have both myself and the dog fed by 10:30am. Mr W gone to get pictures we had taken of us and Bill today, so a nice treat. My nephew popping in too for some craft advice on his art project for college. Real cogs are nice to cover a guitar with but will cost a fortune. I will show him how to use the die cutting machine ans how to colour aluminium with alcohol markers there's also the melt pot!

I shall try post more later, I need some medicine quite badly at the minute. I miss you all, very special hugs to Sue and my most special Wilsonette friends, gentle hugs for those ill, in pain or unhappy. Hugs for Robbie fir his progress and I shall look at his website later. Hugs for Wilsonettes in every time zone.

There are enough hours in the day but some one seems to have pinched most of mine!

I'll be back soon as I can,

This is great, and when you showed how to make flowers from pages from old books, I've even used one on a man's card as they are quite butch if the edges are inked with black or dark brown.

  94. Hi Sue lovely card today the vintage look is great. I too would find it difficult to cut up a book but I must get over that because the look is wonderful. Trouble is, I know I would get one from a charity shop, open it to take out a page then settle down to read it. Four hours later book read and onto the book shelf! Lol I can see why you used a dictionary! Congrats to Susi, enjoy your card. Have a great day love Diane G xxx

Lynne you and the fur babies playing musical chairs and then you sulking- what a laugh! Xxx

  120. Hi Sue

A bit late today but have blitzed the craft room so am feeling a little smug at how clean and tidy it is! :) Granddaughter has loads of things now that I will never use but she will love! More space for stash now :)

I love the card and although I love what you have done with the pages from your dictionary I just cannot bring myself to deface a book of any kind no matter how old.

We were very strictly brought up to treat books almost with a reverence as we did not have many, but I do have some news print stamps so may give them a go. There is always a way round things isn't there?

Congrats as always to the lucky Wednesday card winner.
