Happy Birthday Wishes To You

Good Sunday morning all!  Today's card is a result of one of my weekly "play" sessions.  I do sit down about once a week and just try something new, whether it be a product I have never used or some that I use often, but tired in a new application.  This background was the result of simply doing a bit of inking my craft mat and picking it up with white card.  I do this when I want to try new colours together to see how they look.  Sometimes it is successful, sometimes it isn't, but at the end of the day, it is only a bit of card.  No harm, no foul is the way I see it!  I liked the way this one came out.  I mixed some distress ink, distress stain and some Adirondack inks as they are all water based and mix well.  I just liked the mixture of Stormy Sky and Clover and Picket Fence.  Once dry, I added some flicks from a white paint pen and a gold paint pen by tapping on the barrel with my ruler.  I love the randomness of that, but it does go absolutely everywhere so be warned! I used the gold paint pen around the edge of the piece when I finished using a ruler to guide it.  Then I matted it with black card to frame it.  The butterfly is from the Stitched Flower set by Justrite and I stamped it on black card and heat embossed it in black for a tonal look.  I did this twice and hand cut it (which was very easy as I cut off the antennae).  I stamped the butterfly in black directly on to the background and used the antennae from the stamped image.  I glued the butterfly only in the centre and let the wings flat upwards.  I used the swirly dashed stamp as it's flight  trail.  I stamped the sentiment on to coconut white card beneath it for a clean and simple look.  Finished it off by doing a bit of matting and layering with black and gold in between my white pierced mat and final white mat.  Finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 8" in size.

absolutely fantastic background, and lovely composition. This card is yet another stunner - the colours sing to me and black on black embossing is a sure winner in my book.

  6. Not only a no foul, but a definite goal!! Really like this, Sue, the background has a hint of the cosmos
and although not keen on these stamps, the butterfly looks fab in black on black. Yes, a winner.

Well done to the card winners, too, especially our proud mum, Lindsay.

  17. Hi Sue,
Totally different look for you, but fantastic! Love the colours and isn't it amazing what can be achieved from playing! This background is a very similar technique to one that Barbara Gray did yesterday on her blog - have you two been talkingLOL!!i love to get messy every now and then and have two Gelli plates that I love and it's an incredible moment when you get the reveal of the pulled print as you never really know what you're going to get. As you say, if it goes wrong, it's only a bit if ink/ paint and a piece of card! Congratulations to the winners especially Lindsey. Hope all of our friends in pain have a better day, Lynne hope Tilly and Cully behave and don't give you any heart stopping moments today! Norh, Steph, Gail, Tina and Pam daily hug to you. Cazzie hope toe is better, Julie hope you're feeling better. Have a fabulous day everyone, love and hugs from Alison xx

  25. GM Sue - love this arty style card - must have a go at something similar - yes most of us I suspect get stuck in ruts and we should play and experiment more - note to self!

Toe is feeling less sore today - did make a start on sorting craft room yday but will do a bit more today - little by little I think - have managed to find my golf sandals which I bought many years ago and haven't used for years - think they will be just the job for tomorrow and I've also booked a buggy - if it was a fun round I wouldn't bother playing but its not - its serious - a Mixed Greensomes Knock out match so I'd be letting my playing partner down if I wimped out and thereby gave the other pair the match - Greensomes format for any interested non golfing Wilsonettes means you hit every other ball after the tee shot where you both tee off and then decide which ball is best - so it's only like playing half a round of golf really. Happy crafty Sunday all.

I Love all The Fabulous Techniques you've used to create this Stunning Card, and The Wonderful Butterfly from The Stitched Flower Set by JustRite I love how you have Stamped on your card so you have caught your antanie so when you did your second it was easy to cut out and remove the antanie and I love as always how you embossed them in black giving a tone on tone look, (I just Love JustRite Stamps) It's so long ago since I used a Gold Pen to go around the edge of my paper it looks great I don't know why I stopped using that technique. I Love all your Mat/Layering with your White Gold and Black it looks Fantastic.
Sue I say it every day but I Truly mean it Thanks for
Sharing, Thanks for The great Breakdown and The wonderful Photography and "Mainly The Stunning Cards" also Thank You for the daily inspiration you give to me and this Awesome Blog and doing it every single day of the year!

    MORNING SUE
It's rather dull this morning and I've got fingers crossed for it to brighten up as I'm going across Derbyshire to see my eldest daughter and her husband today.
Today's gift is a little too 'out of the box' for me.
I appreciate the technique for the background but to me I love to see butterflies in bright colours - I know there is at least one black butterfly in the world but it's just my take on colour.
I suppose I really must step out occasionally and try more 'modern' art.
Have a really good day and take care everyone.
See you tomorrow if I don't get mowed down by my daughter's rescued two working Collies; garden cat or any other rescue she has in at the moment. At least Mr Swan has gone back to his Mrs all well and fit.
Congratulations to all the very lucky winners.

  52. Hi Sue. A beautiful card today : ) I love the background, the colours and the randomness of it. It looks like it is in a picture frame with the sentiment below, I love it, a gorgeous result of a play session: )
    Daily hug for Pam.
Hugs for all in need including Jean, Gail, Tina and Juia Laz. I hope the toe is ok for tomorrow Clare!
Sandra, sorry that you are in extra pain. You have the same mind set as me about it I think. You try and keep on top of it as much as possible but when it beats you you get angry and upset at it. You are allowed to moan about it when that happens you know. You will be more positive once you get back on top of the pain. Where would we be without morphine : )
Norah, sorry that your legs still aren't being kind to you! It is understandable that you are frightened of thunderstorms after a fright like that as a child. You are not being lucky with the weather, I do hope that your hills get some sun today for you!
I hope everyone has a good day.
    6 sleeps Sue : ))

Good morning sue and all the crafty crew!!

Really like the simplicity and elegance, of the single butterfly, its so pretty and effective.

Clare W, sorry to hear you will miss the knockout!! but really your toe is on the mend, hope your on top form very soon.

I have not been having been feeling my best and so popped to see my GP and told her I felt that I had an elephant lying on my chest. After examining me she said I have Costochondritis, inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the breastbone or sternum.
So I cannot lift anything heavy so that will be watering can and bags of compost out of the window for a while.. Still waiting for an appointment for my eye but now have the referral and the pressure has gone down to 29 but is still too high.

Julie how is your eye? hope you are making good progress xx.

Sandra I am so sorry that you are having a tough time, you are amazing and I, hope the pain becomes more manageable, and am sending you a big cameeli cuddle xxx

Same for Norah, Brenda Lello, and Margaret Corgi owner and Mrs B.. for all your kind words xx

Congrats to all lucky Wilsonette winners today. How many times have you checked to make sure you have read it right ? Have fun with your gift ladies : )

Well, what can I say about your Sunday special ? Boooootiful. All those colours fit perfectly together. I never think of 'playing' goodness me I get in enough mess as it is without trying LOL ! It would be great fun to flick inks but with my daughters wedding gown hanging in all its magnificant beauty in my 'craft' room, maybe its something to try AFTER the wedding, good idea ?
There is so much colour in this card but the clean crisp white card just evens it all out, and that beautiful jet black butterfly is the most lovely finishing touch, all in all its such a plain card, but it has so much beauty to it also.
I may feel Ive been on a wrestling boot camp this morning and every bit of me feels uncomfortable, Im sending caring loving hugs to Pam, Tina, Gail and to Cam, and to any lovely ladies that dont feel so well today, that are down and sad, I shall be thinking of you. 77. Hi Sue. A fab card today !! I think it looks like a painting you would hang on the wall in an Art Gallery or something !! It sounds like a great, fun, messy technique to try. I don't actually have any paints or Alcohol inks as I mostly use dies or make decoupage cards. I have some mica powders and glitters which I love and my beloved distress inks !! I suppose I really should be a bit more adventurous !! I like doing the messy shaving foam technique using my stepdaughters mica mist sprays but that is probably as messy as I would get !! I would love to try the " caught in crystal " technique you have at the top of your blog, and I keep meaning to buy the crafty bits to do it but I keep getting swayed by all your beautiful die sets !! I am sure I will get around to it eventually as my stepdaughter loves to do messy crafting techniques when she visits. This is a great Sue, I love it all and I love the black on black embossed butterfly too !!
I am sorry I was unable to comment yesterday but I had an all day family occasion to attend. I was so tired afterwards I was not even up to just texting a message !! I did manage to see yesterday's card Sue and I thought it was gorgeous !! I really loved the white embossing and the peacock feathers distress ink. Such a beautiful card. Thanks for sharing more amazing cards with us Sue. They so brighten my day and I can't wait every morning to see what you have made next !! Thank you.
I hope you and your family have a lovely day today Sue. Sending you lots of love and hugs, Tres x x x

  82. Hi Sue,
I really like today's card! I love the colours and the hints of gold and white are so lovely! I only have about three alcohol inks and haven't used them for ages. I think you play and create a masterpiece while I may play and create a mess or havoc! Love the black butterfly too.
Steph - that was a question mark wasn't it after your comment regarding your daughter's wedding dress! We ell I might just wait until after the wedding to try out this technique. I know Sue said the backgrounds made are unique - but I don't know if your lovely daughter would want to be that unique. Great to have you back! x
Congratulations to all today's winners! Congratulations too to Aquarius for yesterday - I forgot . Cameeli - take care - you are having a tough time at the minute too. Was going to ask about your eye , pleased pressure gone down a bit. Thinking of you tomorrow.
Came downstairs this morning to find that a wren is building a nest in one of my hanging baskets! It is just outside the conservatory and above a table and chairs! Not sure what to do - don't want her to be frightened off after she has laid her eggs! She is so tiny!
Clare pleased your toe has improved a little! Hope the golf goes well.
Sending love to all in pain or suffering what someone once said suffering - " from the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to".
Please enjoy the day with your Dad if you can - I still miss my lovely Dad!

  102. Good morning Sue and everyone

What a super card for today but it leave me with a question, why oh why don't my 'plays' turn out like this, they usually end up in the bin! This is such a beautiful and elegant card.

I am sure I am not alone in getting frustrated clearing my dies after cutting, but no more I now have a Spellbinders Tool n One, it is wonderful, well worth the pennies!(I have checked and C. E. have this on their web site so trust I am ok to post a comment about it Sue)

Cameeli stay strong especially tomorrow it is amazing how strong we can be when we have to, I will be thinking of you, and please do take it easy.

Gail thinking of you, I do hope the treatment can go ahead tomorrow.

Congratulations to all the lucky winners I hope you enjoy your gift from Sue.

Steph please don't take any risks with that wonderful wedding dress, wait until afterwards, then 'play' to your hearts content.

I hope everyone enjoys Father's day and those like me who no longer have one with them, remember all the wonderful memories you do have in your heart.

Warm wishes and hugs to those who need them.

  149. Hi Sue.

I like making backgrounds similar to this but I use distress ink pads and mica sprays onto my brown mat. I either put the paper to the mat and lift or move it about to mix the colours. My favourite thing about this technique is that I can extend the ink with more mica spray, a water spray or a bit of both. I like to use some paper or cardstock that perhaps I'm not keen on. I love you the more opaque, textured look you get with the distress stain. My distress ink pads grew a couple at a time so maybe I might do the same with the distress stains. I love the effect you got by tapping the ink out of the pen. I haven't done this technique for ages so it's now on the to do list.

The outlining and matting make it look like a framed piece of art rather than a card. I'm sure whoever recieves a card like that would mount it on the wall once the birthday cards came down.

Congratulations to the winners and hope everyone has has a nice weekend,

    Crafty hugs,

    T x
