You Are So Sweet/ Sneak Peek

Good morning crafters!   I thought I would show you a card featuring my Faux Quilled Leaves die set.  They are finally back in stock and on the shows this weekend. This card is flat and uses a technique that I call "inlaid die cuts".  I have done a video using another set of dies on this technique so if you prefer the visual method of learning, then it will be along in the next few weeks sometime.  I started with two pieces of card, one periwinkle blue and the other coconut white.  I stamped my sentiment (from Bold Sentiments from Cr. Exp.) on the lower piece of the white using a black Archival ink pad.  I put a small piece of double sided tape between the two colours and lined up the edges so they were even.  I cut the leaves out three times in a row so that the die went through both pieces of card at the same time.  This is necessary because, once cut, you will carefully take the pieces apart and nip any area that is still attached, then reassemble the card with the top from the blue card and the bottom from the white card.  They should align perfectly back around the die shape.  You then just need to cut three more of the leaves out of the desired colour.  I picked black as I loved the way it just pops out at you.  There are two basic ways you can finish this card from this point.  The easier way is to glue a piece of acetate to the back of the now reassembled background, then you can just put glue on the back of your die cut and carefully slot them back into place.  Or you can tape the dies in place from the back, just catching the edge of the die so the tape doesn't show.  You could also use a sticky adhesive sheet and fill in with glitter the area that is still exposed.  They will all give similar looks, it just depends on how much shine or bling you want to show.  I wanted a simpler look for this card, so I taped the dies back into place (which did take a while to do) but there is no shine from acetate.  I finished the card with a bit of matting and a double white pierced mat layer.  Finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 8 3/4" in size.

    Hi Sue,
Lovely card and I think I know what you mean - just not sure about the shape of the initial two cards (white/periwinkle) used. So......... will wait for the video.
I have used the cut-out and reinsert technique many times but never across two different pieces of card, really appeals to me.
The leaves are beautiful, I'm so glad I have them. They have a very modern but elegant look to them.
Have a Good Easter everyone, with temperatures a bit warmer than yesterday and no cold wind!

Fantastic news Carmeeli, it must be such a relief for you both. Tina, I hope you have a wonderful day today. Norah, Rory sounds like a super little boy and I agree that you should write a book - you have the knack of relating incidents in a humerous way and I'm sure that many other parents of autistic children would enjoy reading and knowing that they're not alone.
I'm not sure about this card - I like the "simplicity" of it but I will have to wait for the video as I'm not sure it's something I can do. Looking forward to the shows tomorrow.

  92. Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
I really like this card Sue as it is a very different WOW. What a great technique, so simple in many ways yet very striking and with the right words would make a lovely condolence card, or would be great for the men in our lives that are so hard to make a card for. Thank you Sue for a wonderful new technique that i think a lot of us will find useful.
Tina, have a fabulous day as a MOB, enjoy your princess' day. I know you are going to be thinking of your dad in the hospital, but i think the nurses will be keeping him busy by the sounds of it and remember the hankies. I truly hope that the sun is shining bright for a beautiful bride and her equally beautiful mum.
Oh Lynne, your fur babies sound hysterical, how can you say no to them when they are trying their hardest (notice i an not saying what they are trying their hardest at). Having a pet/baby of any kind is supposed to be destressing you know? I notice it didn't take the wee one twice to put the pleading eyes on or remember the hammock. I have a daft chocolate lab that never learned to bark. When any of Rory's carers come in, you couldn't get a piece of tissue paper between her and them, never mind anything else. She just looks up with those sad eyes as if to say "are you going to clap me, nobody else will" and the eyes that say i am starved to death until you look at her tummy. She is going to fall out with me this weekend because she is going to have a.....B A T H, but she has learned how to spell so it will be catch her first.
My Rory couldn't speak until he was 3 and it came slowly but he did learn to tell his nursery teachers "you smell nice" so he found the chat up lines for women very early on. As i say he is slowly getting spacial awareness as he didn't know how to keep from someone else's space. He used to touch everybody's face as he has a fascination for smooth things. Some people would get a fright, others were just downright horrible and said about getting that creep away from them. This is when you have to educate some people in Autism in the sheer hope that they wont be so cruel again. But mines is just a wee cutie as he never goes away without giving me a cuddle, kiss and a love you. I wouldn't have him any other way as i am so very lucky to have such a lovely lad.
Hope that the sun is shining bright on everyone where ever you might be today. Have a lovely Easter weekend and if like me you can't get out to roll your eggs down the hill, use the stairs if you have them.
Love and crafty hugs from a gorgeous day at Glenochil and my hills,

  100. I just want to say about the "blog family" remarks that a little more charity wouldnt hurt. There are some people on the blog including myself lately that have had various traumas to deal with and the support given has been of a real help. If I dont want to read all of the comments then I dont but I wouldnt begrudge anyone writing them.

Some time ago I actually asked Sue how she felt about the blog being somewhat hijacked from its original purpose as it seemed to be getting a bit out of hand - her answer was that she didn't mind what anybody wrote as long as there were no mean comments.
She said she liked the 'family' feel and that women do often need support from each other. Hope I've quoted you more or less correctly from memory, Sue.
It's probably too complicated to have both a straight blog and a chatty blog, so perhaps everyone could be sensible about what they write and what they choose to read.
Certainly a lot of comfort has been given to several people in need of a little TLC lately.

  131. Beautiful card Sue, Im with the majority and will wait for the video to watch this technique.
As for the other matter, there are an awful lot of personal messages being left. I don't mind anyone giving support to someone in need but it is getting a bit over the top and I can see a little group forming which does make you feel like an outsider and you don't belong. Just my opinion!

I think I'll leave it until the video too Sue as it will sink in the brain matter better!! About some of the comments that have been made, sorry if I've upset you too. Like everyone else I just wanted to comfort those who were going through a very traumatic time in their lives. I think we've all been there at one time or another. Anybody who doesn't want to read them doesn't have to. It comes down to choice. Like all our Wilsonettes I have the deepest respect for Sue and wouldn't want to do anything to upset her or divide this wonderful blog. Sending warm Easter wishes to our Wilsonettes. Lots of love and hugs to everyone who is hurting and need some comfort xx Love Karen xx
