High Low Stained Glass

Hello crafters!  Today's card utilises a great technique that I call "the High-Low Technique"  If you haven't tried this technique, now is the time as you can follow along with me to give it a try.  Don't forget to click on the subscriber button and you will be emailed when new videos are added to our channel!
I landed safely yesterday and really enjoyed reading all the comments when we finally got in,
thank you so much!  It's a double card day today for you so don't forget to scroll down to see card number two (after you watch the video of course!) LOL

Buy from Joanna Sheen

Finished dimensions are 7" x 7" in size.  All for now, Sue x

This second card today uses the Lavish Corners Background stamp by Justrite.  I stamped it on to coconut white card using the flake and glitter glue.  Once I cleaned the glue off of the stamp, I gilded the background using the Verdigris Gilding Flakes.  I used the Vintage Labels Six die and cut an aperture in the centre.  I added mounting foam to the back for dimension.  I cut one of the tags from the Bracket and Label tag set in black and added just the end of it to the inside of the aperture, just adding a bit of detail above my sentiment.  I stamped the sentiment (from What Defines Us) in black and mounted the background over it.  I used two of the Decorative Labels Eight cut in white to add a decorative edge around the background.  I added a black mat to give it some contrast before adding my white pierced edge layer.  I finished the card with a soft gold, black and then a final white mat.  Finished dimensions are
 6 3/4" x 7 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

I particularly like the verdigris flakes

Pam, you are such a sweetheart and so glad you are here every day!!

The Wedding fast approaches and I did find a pair of gorgeous Ivory silk lace shoes with matching handbag, but the shoes cripple me!! Back to the drawing board and John Lewis later this week.

My parents arrive on 30th April and the wedding is on 03rd May. L thanks you for asking!! As you can imagine it is full steam ahead with preparations etc.
I finished die cutting all the 600 butterflies yesterday and now I have to emboss and assemble them.

  7. Loved this card when it was on the show, Sue, and even more now! Thanks for video - such clear instructions for the high-low technique and will definitely be having a crack at this.
Anything with TT folder, gilding flakes and microbeads always a winner with me - and FQB's too. Do like the Calabria die but don't have it - yet. So much to need!
Do like the second card too.
Pleased you are back safely with Mom. Going to the breakfast club??

    morning Sue
Thank you for today's visit into the craft room. Two very very beautiful gifts today and for me the video gift just has the edge where on the second one it's the sentiment that takes the prize (I collect all the sentiments and keep them for the centre of my gifts).
I still haven't made the aquaintance of gilding flakes - I've used glitter on sticky tape but really must get down to purchasing some of the beautiful new flakes.
So pleased to see you've landed safely so now have some real R&R.
By the way I really love the new music at the end of this season's video - would love to know what it's called.
Take care and see you tomorrow.

Great second card also. Love the stamp and dies used, and the piece of Bracket and Label tag above the sentiment is so effective, I love it. Hope you can relax for a while Sue. 27. Hi Sue,
So glad you've landed safely and hopefully will have a bit of a rest now that you're with your mom.
The first of the cards is my favourite of the two, it is just BEAUTIFUL and STRIKING and showcase the gilding to maximum effect.
I like the second one, too (clever idea, using 2 of the dies as a border/mat) but it is a bit busy for me. But I'm certain that it will appeal to a great many people, I certainly wouldn't say no to it.

  86. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes. Hope you managed a good amount of sleep on the journey like you said just before bording yesterday, and so glad you have arrived safe and sound. Be happy.
Im amazed to see that these guilding flakes are putty in your hands, even the sticky tape seems to understand its roll (oops, no pun intended there) its just I even get in a mess with sticky tape let alone pesky guilding flakes ! I can see it now, me trying to peel off the design covered wuth self adhesive, boy oh boy, comedy of errors, but saying that, I may, just may try it with another die, ohhh dear, will I really ?!
Then you give us a second beauty, yet again guilded, Sue, what are you trying to do with me lol. Both cards are amazing, nothing more nothing less, amazing, thank you.

So lovely to see new names adding to the family, welcome. And so glad to see Tres back along with Nutty Norah, now then, where's our White Rose ? Come home Yorkilass please.

Cam - HOW MANY ? Wowzer ! Maybe you and Tina need to get together, what with bunting for Tina and your butterflies, makes me grateful our daughters wedding is a quiet affair !

Love to all popping in today, find some 'rest time' if you can Sue.

So glad your trip was uneventful, I know you do it regularly, but it must take it out of you just with the time differences. Take care and don't overdo it for a day or two, us UKers will still be here when you come back.

Regrettably I dithered over whether to get the classic rose or the faux quilled blooms dies and missed out. It looks as though the whole world has sold out of them now. A good think for you but not so good for me. I will have to wait until the shops are back in stock!

  146. Good afternoon Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
OOOOhoooo a pretty cards today Sue and have finally seen a hi low card that i really like, but that could be all to do with the colours you have chosen to do today's beauty in. The 2nd card is beautiful as well so it would be a very difficult choice today. I hope you have had a lovely morning catching up with mum and the breakfast club and please have a few days rest before going at it full pelt again. I know your mum will be very proud of the beautiful woman she raised, who has 24carat gold running through her.
Cameeli flower, you should have farmed out the butterfly mission to the Wilsonettes as many hands make light work, so they say although i hope they don't flutter away on you when you're not looking. I hope you find a pair of comfy shoes as crippled feet you do not need at your son's wedding. Get a pair of slippers/mules that you can change out and into easily between photographs, Flyflots are a perfect solution. They have a beautiful selection and it is like walking on air as they have all these atomic things in them. I am a connoisseur of Flyflots with a grand total of 36 different kinds in my shoe arsenal. Afraid that high heels are only an option if in my scooter as any other time i would be making friends with the ground an awful lot(we're on quite good speaking terms at times but i really wish that it wouldn't take out it's bad temper on the knees of my trousers or worse, bare knees, OOOOOooooooo sore).
Late today because my motorcar had to go in for its MOT and service, so just took the knitting to do while waiting. Oh how glad am i that it is portable because not being able to get far on the old pins, i would be bored senseless. Passed with flying colours i'm pleased to say as i wasn't looking forward to a big bill. What happened to the beautiful weather we were having as it's been miserable here so far although it's brighter now, i hope it continues.
Barbara, i am across at the Glenochil Prison(they let me out on good behaviour)Clackmannanshire about 7 miles from Stirling. If i go a mile down the road i can see from the top of the Tullibody bypass, Wallace's Monument and Stirling Castle in the distance. I used to love going for walks down to Menstrie and Blairlogie, but the legs have went on permanent strike now and won't do what i tell them to do. I can see the Ochils that i used to love to climb out of my window. Anne up in Gairloch, i used to go around the length and breadth of the main isle of the UK with my dad and mum in a motorhome that my dad built. I have been up your part of the world a few times over the years and never get tired seeing it. Because mum and dad didn't have much converting an old van into a carvanette was the best solution and meant we could go on holiday. My dad though would normally go into the towns at night when all the shops were closed and do detours to escape them during opening hours. My bed was across the front seats, Jim was in the hammock that my mum made under the concertina roof, while mum and dad were the two benches with the table to make a bed....happiness.
Hope that you are all having a lovely day and remember it doesn't need the sun to make it lovely, just a smile or hello can make it perfect.
Hope to see you all tomorrow,
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil)

Pam I have'nt said it lately even though I have thought of you, sending love and hugs.

Norah & Tres, really pleased you are both back where you belong. We just need to get Yorkielass back, if you are looking in but not commenting, please come back. You have always been very kind with lovely thoughts, and my goodness we all need them from time to time. Please think about it.

People have bee asking about dad, I have'nt mentioned it as the day after Claire's wedding, we had a call to say he was going down hill fast. When we got to the hospital he was on monitors and was having a blood transfusion. We were sent home later as he became more stable. He's not eating anymore and sleeps a lot, they wake him to give fluids. He in on antibiotics for a chest infection and a urinary infection. That's all I can tell you. Thank you for thinking of him.

    Kind regards :-)

  155. Wow! Great cards as always, Sue. I tried your other version of stained glass (with glue and glitter) the other day and was amazed that I actually got something pretty at the end of it, so now I feel a bit more relaxed about trying the gilding flakes and micron bead version. I've only got one small medallion die to practise on and need to save up to get a bigger one...wouldn't it be great if there was a die lending library in the UK like our book libraries. That would help so many people. :)

  182. Hi Sue, 2 stunning cards as usual. Love the high/low technique and the bling of gilding flakes. Glad you arrived across the sea okay and can now spend some time with your
    mom. Lol lynne m & fur babies x x x
Tina - sending lol and gentle hugs to your dad.
Cameeli - well done on the 600 butterflies.
June (Yorkiekass) - where are you ?

Fur babies out for a walk with hubby giving me much needed reading time!!!!. I have managed to read the same page ALL DAY- no its not that I'm slow at reading but because a certain tri-colour bundle of mischief (tilly) decided that mum really needed her attention all day so every time I tried to grab a few minutes to read the little monkey jumped onto my lap and sat on the book!!. Cully has spent the day trying to catch any bird that landed in the garden. The pesky poochies will probably behave all evening now for hubby cuz their his "little angels" . Aaarrrrggghhhhhh lol me x x x

  189. Good evening Sue,
Please forgive me using your site as a messaging service yet again but i just wanted to let Tina know that i am thinking about her father. I wish mine was still here to go and see but he's not so Tina will you give your "Daddy" a cuddle for me when he is upto it just because i can't. I hope the antibiotics bring down the infection quick for him and brings him back to his "cheeky" self again soon.
Sorry Sue, i hope you don't mind but i think you would want one from your "daddy" as well. Take care dear friends and so glad to see that Yorkielass June has come back as well,
    Love and crafty hugs
