Double Christmas Day

Hi bloggers!  Friday has come around again (oh so quickly!), but that means two offerings for you today.  This first card was also the first demo that I did on the Christmas shows in October.   It has loads of great techniques that will work well with other cards, not just Christmas cards.  I started by embossing a piece of milk card with the Holiday Magic  embossibility folder.  That provided texture for one side of the card.  For the other side, I used a piece of decorative paper but added a bit more to it by stamping some swirls and gold embossing them.  I then covered the piece with a self adhesive sticky sheet and covered it with micro beads to add texture to that side.  Using the new double sided green satin ribbon, I plaited it and tucked the ends underneath.  You need to add enough mounting foam to account for that depth.  I have a tutorial for the ribbon plaiting at the top of my blog if you would like to see it.  Next I stamped the Poinsettia bauble on soft gold card using a clear perfect medium pad.  I heat embossed it with gold detail  powder.  I did the same with the Swirly bauble.  I cut them both out with the matching Heirloom Ornament dies (2010 and 2011).  I mounted them on foam and added some thin gold cord so they looked like they were suspended.  I stamped the poinsettia portion of the stamp, coloured it and cut it out and mounted it on the ornament.  Using the red and green felt from the Holiday pack, I cut a poinsettia out and assembled it by gluing the layers together offset.  I added this as an embellishment to the ribbon.  I stamped a sentiment and cut it into a strip with a forked end and tucked the ends under my flower.  A final double milk coloured pierced mat completed this card.  Finished dimensions are 8" x 8 1/4" in size.  Just scroll down to see the second offering for today.

Today's second offering is a silver and cream mixture of Heartfelt Creations and Justrite stamps.  I started by stamping the Festive Poinsettia all over the background of a piece of silver card.  I used a Clear Perfect Medium pad and heat embossed with Silver Shine embossing powder for a tone on tone look.  I don't think you can ever go wrong that way, it adds interest but doesn't overpower.  Next I stamped The SunKissed Poinsettia stamp by Heartfelt Creations.  I  stamped it on milk card and silver embossed it as well.  I cut it out with the matching die and formed the flowers by offsetting and gluing them together after using a stylus to give the petals some form.  I added a flatback pearl to the centres.  I stamped my sentiment (Heartfelt) and cut it out with a simple oval die.  I cut a larger silver oval to use as a mat.  I arranged the flowers around the oval top and bottom and added a chalk coloured messy bow tied from seam binding.  A bit of metallic Bakers twine was added it as well.  I finished the card with a double milk mat with a pierced inner layer and a pearl swirl and some flatback pearls as embellishments.  Finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 8" in size.  I hope you have a great weekend to look forward to.  Don't forget to check back on Saturday for the winner of the card giveaway!  All for now, Sue x

  12. Good morning Sue
I love both cards and couldn't choose, I don't have a favourite. Since I first saw the way to weave the ribbon I use the technique for a number of projects. I like the tone on tone stamping you've used on the second card, it always looks classy. I also like the gold stamping on patterned paper. I am in York (surprise birthday present) so I'm busy sight seeing this weekend.

  20. GM Sue - Like v. much No. 1 but No. 2 has the edge for me - just! Got a couple of special Ccards left to do- been playing decorating a 3D birdhouse lately which I've never done before and I am really enjoying it. I 'lost' a clear stamp yday I wanted to use- spent a hour or so cursing at my own stupity for misplacing it and turning my desk etc.. about trying to find it. It turned out it had stuck itself to some packaging of another stamp which I decided not to use and put away - so all was well in the end - It drives me mad when I misplace something - (thankfully that's not very often)everything has a place n all that - but sometimes inate objects seem to think otherwise.

  37. Morning Wilsonettes, and of course Sue. What a great name Fairy Craft Mother - love it : )

And I love 2 fer Friday's too, although it just adds more confusion to an already confused brain cell ! Every day I gaze in wonder at the W.O.W. cards you have for us Sue (Wonder Of Wilson) and wish I could part replicate just one of them, and as soon as I think I'll try one, out pop's more, so the process of chuntering away to myself starts over ! All I have to work with is the Christmas celebration embossing folder which I love, the swirl and star side is my favourite side, but no SB C/mas dies, so you can see what I mean about total confusion right ?!! : )

I love the 2nd card, it's a 'me' card, I love using either just one colour throughout or using a hint of a second colour to give the 'pop' effect. I sat all day trying to design my 'specials' but my brain cell was so empty I decided to look back at all the C. Cards from last year to try and kick start my own mojo (not really into C this year) !
All the inspiration in the world is there for me, unfortunatly the ingrediants are not ! But I love you Sue for being there for me and us, your Wilsonettes.

Hope you are all safe this morning, and Im sending everyone love n hugs this Friday.

I hope Sue that that hss proven a point, that thanks to YOU and your blog, some of us may not be lucky enough to own all the dies, stamps and embossing folders SB/CE/JR and Coutoure (spelling) !!!! : ( give us, but you help kick start our love of craft when nothing else can. I also love the poinsettia stamps, dies and the beautiful felt poinsettia flower as it has a richness about it done in the red felt. The bottom card is the posh one that i would send out to my daughters mother in law. The top one is the one that i would give to my mum, as with eyesight not always good, she could really see this one with her hands(blind people will know what i mean). So all in all too crackers that would be well received.

  68. Hi Sue
Two very beautiful cards today . The second card is gorgeous but for me the winner has to be the first one. I loved it when I saw you demo it on C& C and my opinion hasn't changed. Love the traditional colours. I am using the poinsettia bauble stamp on some of my Xmas cards at the moment and have been painting them with mica powders which look lovely but I might just copy your idea and just colour in the poinsettia itself - so much quicker!! Thanks Sue for your generosity and inspiration.

  88. Hi Sue. WOW !! Two gorgeous Christmas cards today Sue !! I absolutely love them both equally so I will not be choosing a favourite. The first one I love because of the many different techniques and traditional Christmas colours you have used. (I love the traditional christmas colours.) The second one I love for the design layout and I love the tone on tone embossing. My favourite poinsettia however has to be this spellbinders one in felt. Just fab !! A big thank you Sue for all your hard work again on our behalf. It is a shame but I think most people do not realise the amount of work that goes in to making the cards that we make. Then when it comes to Christmas it is an awful lot of work making so many cards as every one wants a handmade one !!

  103. Hello Sue,
I'm really late today, been having Internet problems, that all seems to be resolved now - fingers crossed.
I really cannot choose between these cards today because they are equally really really beautiful. The Christmas one I love because it has everything I love about Christmas, Poinsettias, Baubles, beautiful paper and embossing. And the second one is just so so gorgeous, very classy. I could go on and on and on - thank you forgiving us two gorgeous cards today, you really do spoil us.
    Take care, love Brenda xxx
