Happy weekend! I hope the weather is playing nice wherever you may be. It's a bit funny, but sometimes the cards I make bring me back a little when I look at them. I remember this one was the very first card sample that I made for my June shows. I just loved these Iris and couldn't wait to see them coloured up (I have always had a thing for Iris!) Plus, I had just been given our new soft custard card and it just spoke to me for this card. I used a combination of soft lead pencils with some marker highlights for my Iris which were stamped in Black Archival ink. I actually stamped them three times in fact and die cut just the centre sections for the top two with the ovals in the Vintage Labels Four die set so that I could layer them up a bit. I used the Enchanted Labels 28 to create my background. Now, this is a rather large die, but I found that it can easily be cut down and re-sized to fit the Vintage Labels Four from Justrite. You do really have to look, but I cut it down the centre then slide the excess under the other half until it was the size that I needed. It is mostly hidden by the top die cut which is why it works so easily with this set. I matted it with a piece of white card to bring out the design before adding my double pierced mats in custard card. I tied a messy bow from Royal Blue seam binding (which is a very purplish blue) and topped it with a small flower that I had in my stash. I used a light touch of Mustard seed distress ink to the top of the flower. I stamped a small sentiment and cut it out with the Charmed I'm sure tag set. I lightly inked it with Mustard seed as well while it was still in the die and tucked the end under my flower. A few flatback pearls to the die cuts were the finishing touches for my first Iris card sample. Finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" in size (a mere baby by my standards, huh?!) LOL All for now, Sue x
Beautiful card and the Iris flowers are always popular.

ReplyDeleteWhat a challenge for us today!!
A truly truly beautiful gift - I too adore the Iris and have many in the garden both sides of the Channel. The colour scheme is fantastic and the format - well stamping, matching and cutting and making all fit together - is fantastic - will let you know whether or not I get mine to match never mind looking somewhat like your beautiful sample.
Unfortunately no crafting today - it's packing up to return to the UK tomorrow/Monday.

Hi Sue. What a gorgeous card today !! I love the colouring in of the flowers, just beautiful. I am thinking about maybe getting this stamp. I have the vintage labels four dies and have slowly been collecting the matching stamp sets. I love the idea of cutting down the labels die to frame the stamp. You cannot see the cutting lines. I have the custard card and I love it. I recently made my Dad a birthday card using custard, sky blue and soft gold card. (Blue and Yellow are his favourite colours.) They looked great together. I used the vintage labels four birthday stamp set. The three layers of flowers using the stamps looks great. I love your bow and sentiment to. Happy crafting every one love Tres x x x

Mine always looks as if a child has done it lol. There isn't a flower that I don't like so I am happy which ever flower you use. The colours of the card are so pretty and the ribbon matches it brilliantly.

Beautiful card sue, love the flower image and your design, great colouring, Kate x
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteI love Irises too as i always think they are so bonnie with their two tone colour, and always stand upright, no slouching around for them. But this stamp and the other Iris Justrite stamp i have fallen in love with. They are so beautiful and offer a great canvas to colour.
Your custard card is a lovely mellow soft colour and would be a need it colour, not a want just for the sake of it.
It's a beautiful day up here in Central Scotland today and i hope that it is spreading its happiness around, enjoy everyone.
Love and crafty hugs

Good morning Sue, Another stunning card and I love the way you have used decoupage for the iris. I often decoupage flower stamps particularly when my first stamping attempt is poor because I can hide my mistakes;so nothing is wasted. I haven't got this stamp but will have to try get it once again as it was out of stock last time I enquired about it. The colours used are graat. Have a good weekend. Hugs Pauline A x

I love Irises and not just because Iris was my mother's name - I grow lots in my garden too. Currently using the custard card (which looks lovely in the flesh) to make flowers from the aster dies to go on to the soft antique gold card for a commissioned golden wedding card. ( Both cards came from Sam Poole's shop) All looking good so far....X
