It's A Bird, It's A Plane...

Hi guys!  Okay, well it's a birdcage and a Rocket ship (sort of a plane?)  I know, it's corny but there wasn't a sentiment to use as a title today!  I have been having a little root around in some of my older folders and have found some overlooked cards so I thought I would give you a two-fer today.  They are both a bit not my usual style, but a little bit of fun nonetheless.  These are samples from the Die D-Lite shows that Julia and I did some time back.  The moment I looked at this birdcage, I saw a rocketship and couldn't resist having a bit of fun with it (see the last pic).  I thought what a great card for a young boys birthday!  The first card I did take a small liberty on because I am supposed to stay within the constraints of the show products when making samples.  However, the birdcage just really needed a bird and I found this one on one of the older die sets and for the life of me, I cannot recall the name of it!  Even worse than that, I can't find this embossing folder so I don't know the name of it either (how bad am I today!)  I embossed my milk coloured card with it and then used the enchanted gold gilding wax and rubbed it across the top of the embossing.  I have included loads of close up pics so you can see the lovely lustre it gives.  I matted the piece of soft gold card. I cut the Birdcage Die D-Lite out of soft gold card as well as rubbed it with the same gilding wax to give it a bit of the bling too.  I found a piece of satin cord in my stash and used it too make the cage look like it was hanging.  I added a shabby chic messy bow out of chalk seam binding and topped it with a clear round Dazzler.  I added 3mm and 5mm cream flat back pearls to the ends of the swirls on the embossed background for some interest.  I matted the card with a double mat of milk card and pierced the inner mat.  Almost clean and simple compared to my usual look huh?  The finished dimensions on this one are 6" x 8" in size.  I only took one pic of my whimsical rocketship card and didn't get the measurements on that one, sorry!  I used the Uber embossing folder on it as well as silver distress stain to make the "planets" and stars.  I used Cosmic Shimmer coloured PVA glues to make the rocketship exhaust.  Hope you like it!

Before announcing the winners of this weeks comment games, I just want to say how lovely it was to be able to read all the comments you left yesterday on my Blogversary!  I always look forward to reading my comments every morning from my blog friends, but there were so many new names and faces yesterday, I was over the moon.  Thank you for that!  As long as there are comments to read, I will keep my blog up and running that is a promise!

  7. GM Sue - I love the gilding wax - wonderful stuff. I think Spellbinders should re-name that die now - C&C have had shows recently where nearly all the presenters mention the rocket more than the bird cage almost - I wonder why?! Not.

I haven´t yet, as they´re all girls, but you made me look at my dies in a much different way, and I can tell you, I made a princessewagon out of the other birdcage here for my granddaughters birthday, so you´ve definitely taught me something on that show. And these cards are ofcause as usual just awesome and perfect made.

    morning Sue
I am ashamed to say that I have this die having bought it in one of the picks of the week some time ago and have never used it. This has now to be remedied!!
I really love the format of both of the cards and the colour schemes are great. When I make my birdcage there will have to be a slight change as I do not have a bird die (oh that does look funny but am not changing it!)so will have to find something to fit into the cage. I will be making a bday card early for a little boy whose bday is Oct. but doing this I will not forget the rocket die.
Congratulations to all the very lucky winners - enjoy all your goodies but most of all big Congratulations to you Sue for over 400 comments yesterday.

  116. Not sure about this birdcage - I would have to trim off the bottom bit, but love the rocket. Happy blog birthday for yesterday - pity I missed the chance of the draw, but hey ho, caught up in "family stuff". Saw a very appropriate notice in a shop window the other day - "Friends welcome at all times - family by appointment!" Thank goodness I have your blog to cheer me Sue. X

  124. Helloooo and good afternoon Sue and everyone. Ooooo, love both of these. I love the cage and bird card. The gilding wax seems to have the same lovely effect as the gilding flakes. That tint of colour just makes it "pop". As for remembering what the embossing folder and dies are called, I'll just say, welcome to my world! I'm sure there is quite a few of us living in the "twilight zone!". Beautiful card! I remember the rocket ship from the C&C show you were on and it was so clever. I'm sure any little lad would love to receive it. What a fantastic imagination you have. I'm sure if you put it in a bottle, it would sell millions! How wonderful too that you had so many lovely comments! "Wow!" xx Congratulations to the winners! Enjoy your prizes! Wonderful! Take care Sue xx Love Karen xx

  125. Well just like everyone else, I love both of the cards. But I particularly love the rocket! I have all nephews and lots of our friends have little boys, so this would be a great card for them. Although I know a few little girls that would love it too! Thanks Sue, you're the best, long may you reign!!

  127. Two beautiful cards again, Sue. The rocket is super-cute; never mind little boys liking it, I love it! It has a bit of a steampunk look about it.

  128. Two lovely cards Sue, but I think the rocket has the edge.

  129. Hi Sue,
Both of these cards are great. I don't think I'd have thought to make the cage into a rocket, but it's an excellent steampunky space-craft! Love the white celestial 'splats'. Can't help with name of the embossing folder, but I have the set with the bird and have recently used it myself on a card it is called 'Bird Sanctuary'. Long live the Particraft blog.
