More Exciting News!

Good morning all!  Card first, then news!  For those of you that don't like the dark cards, look away now!  There are a few of you out there like me that enjoy the dark contrast and this one is for you.  I really liked this one myself as I thought it had a real exotic feel to it.  I started by stamping my sentiment in the lower corner with a clear Perfect Medium pad.  I heat embossed it with gold powder.  Next I embossed just the top portion of the card using the Floral embossing folder from Creative Expressions.  I used my score board and made two lines to separate the areas and I pierced in between the lines.  Next I cut the Window Scene die from Heartfelt Creations in taupe card.  I stamped the stained glass window in black and applied Tim Holtz crackle to it and let it dry over night.  I cut the Chateau Gate window in black and glued it over the crackled window once it was dry.  I mounted the two windows a top each other and placed them in the centre of my embossed background.  I made several of the Vintage Floret flowers using varying sizes of the die.  I cut them first out of taupe card, then inked them in black.  I used a clear perfect medium pad to just tip the edges of them and then I sprinkled gold embossing powder on them and heat set the powder.  I added a flatback black pearl as a centre to each of the flowers.  I arranged them around the lower corner of my window and added a small bow of the striped grosgrain ribbon and some natural jute twine.  I matted the entire piece in taupe and pierced the inner mat as a frame to complete my card.  I promise something lighter for tomorrows offering so there is a nice balance!  Finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 8" in size.
I also have some more news to let you in on!  Do you remember my charity demo in Scotland on July 6th? Well, the wonderful people at The Papeterie have agreed to film the demo day and we are going to be selling the DVD for £6 with all the proceeds going to the charity (that includes free shipping in the UK!)  They have asked that if you are interested to get in touch with them to reserve a copy (so they know how many to make).  I have also been doing some thinking about how else I could improve on the charity proceeds and I am going to do a silent auction of some of my cards.  I will put a card on the side of my blog and if you would like to make a bid on it, then just email me.  I will let you know if you have the highest bid or not, but I won't tell you the bid amount (more fun that way!)  I will put a closing date on the auction, then notify the person that has won!  What do you think!
All for now, Sue x

  11. Morning Sue - What a generous and thoughtful lady you are - I will definitely buy a DVD and the auction will be fun! I really love this card so I am going to make a dark card to see what it looks like in the flesh so to speak... I have thought about my aversion to black in a card and I think it's a hang over from my youth (a very long time ago LOL - the big 7-0 is looming!!!)when any black on a card was connected to a bereavement. So that's one of my weekend tasks and I'll let you know! I wish I'd discovered card making years ago; I've been wandering in a sort of vacuum since I lost my husband 8 years ago and by chance I tuned into CandC last year and there you were, Sue, making these amazing creations; I've been hooked ever since - actually totally addicted is a better description LOL. I'm sure like a lot of the lovely card making ladies, I would love to give up work and just make cards all day! If I pop my clogs tomorrow all I will leave my kids is an empty bank balance and a craft "room" full of lovely goodies LOL!
Thank you for your never-ending inspiration, Sue
    Hugs Annie

  16. Morning Sue,
I'm a bit like Annie, I think my hang up over black is from my youth. Plus I cannot see myself sending a black card to older people. But I can see the younger ones enjoying receiving a card like this.
On first seeing it I did think it was rather striking and I have surprised myself because I love it.
Great idea about the silent auction !

    Good morning Sue,
Another beautiful card. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the composition of the window - and the grosgrain just sets it off! Your bows are just stunning - mine don't look a patch on yours no matter how hard I try.

Absolutely up for the DVD, will get in contact with them.

Back to bed for an hour or two - my cat's had her breakfast and is already waiting for me to join her.

Hope you're not snowed in where you are.

What I think is, you are such a kind and generous person and I would buy the DVD and bid in the silent auction. Like a few others I did associate black card with bereavement but the more I used black card the less the association became. I particularly like the gold contrast also those flowers are amazing.

  33. I admit, I´m not too happy about the very dark cards, but it doesn´t mean I ddon´t like the card itself, or the color on other thing. Just that such a small card, easily get a very heavy feeling, if it´s too dark, but yes ofcause it´s a matter of taste, which can never be discussed, cause who´s to say what is good taste or not? I´m certainly not, I can only say, that I´m not too keaen on this or that, and I relaly like thw lay out in the card, it´s awesome.

How to start the day! Today's card is the answer! I love the format and although not totally a lover of dark I do like this take of black/white(taupe). It is so dramatic and I wish I had bought the window dies. Never mind perhaps I can conjure something with the dies I have and my wish list has grown longer.

  113. Hi Sue, that's fantastic news about the DVD and a great way to bring in proceeds for the charity. Great idea too about an auction for your card.

Today's card is another beauty. I don't mind whether cards are dark or light I love all creations and to me this is just stunning.

  115. I really like this card Sue - you're right it does look exotic. I think if you did it in red, black and white you could also make it look quite oriental.

Lovely to hear about your charity work - we just had a clown doctor staying with us (small charity that entertains children in hospital) - like to do my bit too to support small charities!

    Thanks, Susan

  121. Hi Sue,
    Great card as usual.
Black. taupe and gold are indeed exotic combinations.

Here is an e-mail address to reserve the Papertiere DVD:

    charlotte.mitchell@arjowiggins.com

I absolutely love the Papertiere concept and so wish we down here in Hampshire could partake in similar events locally.

Please, Sue, will you remind us what this charity actually does up there in Aberdeen, and who will benefit from your extraordinary generosity. I think that this event
    is about to take off!

I am loving this card Taupe with Gold on the Black background seems to soften the Black (in my opinion)
AND that background is gorgeous, love the divide idea with scoring and piercing it looks so professional.
Those beautiful Vintage flowers with a touch of gold and bow really add the WOW factor, Love it all.
I like the charity ideas, and will
    definitely be supporting you.

  138. Love the card. Not sure about a silent auction as some can afford more than others so would be in a better position to win. Maybe a contribution from people of 20p,or thereabouts, and then you draw the winner from the names?

  149. Hi Sue,
I love the layout and techniques used, however it is a bit austere for me. Navy and white would work well. Count me in for the dvd, can we have a link for that please. I am easy on whether you hold a silent auction or raffle. I would think it would have to be at least £1 each to make it worthwhile for you and the charity.
