Shabby Chic And Sweet

Hi Blog friends!  A completely different style card for today's chosen piece.  Shabby chic, and really girlie too.  I picked out some background papers that have that sort of Laura Ashley feel to them (I hope that translates) to help achieve the desired shabby chic feel.  I started with a white background that I embossed with the Dainty Dots A4 embossibility folder.  It is very subtle, but gives the piece a bit of texture and interest that I just love.  I used the edge of my scissors to roughen the card, which I feel also adds to the look.  I taped down the printed papers but then used a sewing machine to add white thread sewn borders to them.  I stamped my sentiment then cut it out with the Marvellous Squares.  Once cut, I added a different die to the inside to emboss the design around my sentiment.  I wanted to add just a bit of colour to my focal element so I used another die and cutting insert in the set and cut the same flowered paper I used for  my background.  I mounted it directly around my sentiment to add a touch of interest. I utilised the cut outs from this piece and added the pieces to the corners of my card.  I used the Spiral Flower four to create a pretty rolled flower for my card.  I tied a messy bow out of seam binding and glued my flower to the centre.  I decided to add some white mats that were distressed rather than pierced to finish my card.  Although, I was really happy with the way this one turned out (would love to receive a card in this style), I think it would make a splendid card for a teenager or young girl too.  All for now, Sue x

  12. Good Morning, Sue,
What a great little card today!
Absolutely love the Laura Ashley look as background and have been hunting the internet for suppliers of such paper, but to no avail.
Have even toyed with fabric to achieve this effect.
So here is a challenge to you, Sue (as if you needed any more challenges): Please, source some pads of 'petite Laura Ashley' paper/card for us. I cannot think of many dies that cannot be used with such petite patterns.
We miss your special style on C&C; I for one enjoy my recordings of your previous shows when I need inspiration. Thank you for being you.
And when you see Dean next time tell him from me that he needs to shave again; as my lovely ex-RAF husband used to say: "Why grow on your face what grows wild in other places". I cannot lip-read him any more.
    Hugs, Lis x

Love the shabby chic look of this card, the stiching really tricks your eyes suggesting its fabric, which I think would work if you had any small designs in your sewing stash. The colours, textue and Marvelous Squares make this a really gorgeous card one I would definitely give pride of place.

  89. You definitely achieved Laura Ashley, am having flashbacks of primary school photo day dress with me and my younger sister in matching in Laura Ashley dresses (and crimped hair!)

I like the sewing machine effect but if you don't have a sewing machine I'm wondering if off-setting 2 rows of pierced dots and freehand linking them in funky ways would work - be time consuming though, especially as I haven't seen Sue's piercing ruler anywhere yet!

  111. The distessed edges rescue this card from being a bit LOL (little old lady) and I think you are right Sue - this is a card for any agegroup. I think I'm right in saying that all the tash growing going on was for charity fundndraising in November. Hopefully Dean will be clean shaven again as I agree with Lis, it just didn't suit him one bit. My hubby of 25 years, on the other hand has a wonderful moustache, which I have never seen him without - however, I have seen a photo without it...so if he ever wants a divorce all he has to do is shave it off!
